  • A demonstration of Hi-Tech Expressions' 1991 printing application for PCs running MS-DOS, Super Mario Bros. Print World.
This is officially licensed, as you can see from the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" on the front of the box. It's just like any number of other programs from the period featuring kid-friendly characters. It allows you to make cards, banners, calendars and signs with a set of assets provided on the disk, and then you can print them out in super-blurry gray print from your state-of-the-art dot-matrix printer! Wee! I remember quite well getting told to stop making calendars because the squealing of the printer would drive everyone absolutely crazy. That, and my sister had provided my mom about 700 versions of calendars for the same month already.
And after all that, the fun still isn't over! Then you get to pull off the feeder edges of the paper, hopefully not tearing what you just printed out. Woohoo! Does it get any more fun than this, people?!
I do recall this being something for sale at one of those Scholastic Book Fairs that we had in elementary school - you remember the ones where everyone would go to the library with an order form (and money, if you were lucky) to go buy Garfield comic books or Goosebump novels? I'd totally forgotten about those book fairs until I saw the box to this program again after so many years.
The game had no music at all originally - the only sound was the occasional PC speaker beep when printing. I cut that out and replaced it with the Mario theme song playing through a Sound Blaster. Might as well make it interesting!
I haven't seen really anything of note on TH-cam about this, so I figured I'd put it up for the sake of documenting yet another forgotten about piece of software from yesteryear.

I love how the box proclaims, "Now you're printing with POWER!" They sure had a lot of faith in dot-matrix printers and ink ribbons, didn't they?

If memory serves me correctly, this was the game that Daisy was mistaken for Peach. Back when this game was made, Hi-Tech Expressions and Codesmith, Inc. didn't know that Daisy was a different character from Peach. It must have been Super Mario Bros. Print World that Daisy suffered an identity crisis for the 1990s.

YESS THIS IS WHAT I REMEMBER FROM MY CHILDHOOD!
I don't remember if I actually ever printed anything out - I just liked looking at the graphics.

I'm happy you remember this. It's a shame video gamers couldn't see much of Princess Daisy in the 1990s just because Daisy was a shameless rip-off of Peach in her first appearance. So similar to Peach, nobody was convinced she was a different character. It must have sucked for Daisy to first appear in Super Mario Land in 1989 because she first appeared at a time where America couldn't keep up with Japan's weirdness. The policies were strict because not that many people in America believed that teenagers were interested in watching anime and video games back then. Back then, I hated that all weird content had to get censored only because parents thought that keeping things exactly like the Japanese version would be a bad influence and/or make young innocent children feel uncomfortable. But let's face it, the journalists and localizers must have been stupid to think that Daisy and Peach were one in the same character back in the 90s. We knew better and knew that Daisy was never intended to be a nickname and/or a simple recolor of Peach. What clouded their judgement on Princess Daisy's identity back in the 1990s was Daisy's hair being the same length as Peach and a shameless recolor at that.

It was a shame that this was Princess Daisy's last 90's game appearance prior to Mario Tennis. As it seems, not that many people outside of Japan thought that Daisy was a different character only because she was a shameless rip-off of Peach in her earlier video game appearances. Because the journalists back in the 90s knew that Daisy looked too similar to Peach, they had no idea she was a different character. What clouded their judgement was Daisy's uncanny resemblance to Peach. There was no internet back in the early 90's so we didn't know that Princess Daisy was Princess Daisy. When this game was released, the people who worked on this game had no idea that Princess Daisy was a different character. Peach was well known at the time, so many people got lost in confusion when they saw Daisy looking like Peach in her earlier video game appearances. This game was a perfect example of why Daisy suffered an identity crisis. In my opinion, Daisy was too weird to foreign audiences back in the 90s only because she didn't look much different from Peach in her earlier year video game appearances.

I think a good chunk of these graphics were later reused in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on Game Boy Color for the Game Boy Printer gallery.

Thanks for making this video! I still have the whole boxed set of 5.25" disks (maybe it's just one, I can't remember) but can't do anything to load them on my modern laptop to play around. This seemed pretty cool back in the day.

This game is simply print shop but with Mario’s face on it
Now granted I am aware Mario paint is also an application released on Super Nintendo but that game was more versatile
This game there’s not much to it
It’s actually one of my least favorite Mario games because of not really much to do
