Same for me, in hindsight. The fact is I think I enjoyed ACoTaR more while reading it, but it was just really unmemorable that I have forgotten most of it. I don't even remember any of the side characters anymore. ToG however, I still can remember the plot and some scenes and the characters too.
I am SO happy to see that you felt the same way about The Midnight Library that I did…it’s one of those ones that I hear almost no critique of to the point that I wonder if there’s something I’m missing lol, but you validated that nope, it’s just an “eh” read!
These tier rankings never get old to me. There are so many books on your ranking that I need to read. The Midnight Library is on my TBR and despite your low ranking I’m still going to read it because the synopsis sounds interesting. I have to disagree with you on ACOTAR. I’ve only read the first book but I loved it and have heard from several friends that it gets better with each book. But maybe after I read more of these other books I’d have more to compare it to and could possibly feel different.
"it was so repetitive...." that's how i felt about mistborn on the second half. I just wow i didn't like it i gave it a 3. Which i guess is harsh, but I'll keep going, but i needed a break and it shouldn't have taken me as long as it did.
Finally someone who agrees with my opinion on One Dark Window! I went into it expecting so much, and I finished like “that was it?” Every time I see it on recommended lists I want to argue 😅
I recommend reading a book written in the style of Agatha Christie Murder at Glosford Hall By Charlotte Wells. A little-known author, but the book is written according to all the canons of the golden traditional detective story
I took a screenshot and will read all the top three tiers. I think I am in the minority who did not like Emily Henry at all. Maybe I am too old for that kind of romance. I loved Abby's books more. I am always in awe of how succinct you are in summarizing the books!
Thank you so much for the video, I have been making a list of books to read for the summer ! and I love watching your videos because they really help me find the perfect book !!
I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one who did not like midnight library. I don't dnf books too often but that was one of them. I tried physically reading it and listening to the audio book and just could not do it. The main character gets on my nerves.
I've finally got to reading 'Daughter of the Moon Goddess' by Sue Lynn Tan and I'm so glad I heard your review before, because I went in with lower expectations and I adore it so far. It has so many tropes from the Wuxia/Xianxia Chinese dramas that I love which are in themselves hit or miss from series to series. But the imagery is there
Happy Place is also my favorite book by Emily Henry and YES people normally find it controversial and some even say it's her worst... but honestly it shows us different kinds of love and it's so GOOD!
I used to be absolutely obessed with JLA and i continued to read her well into my 20's and honestly, it took me to her 3554 book to notice that she writes the EXACT same plot with the exact same characters in every book. Now I don't even care if she publishes. However, the prequel series to Blood and Ash is way better than the core series
The way people rate Fourth Wing tells me whether or not I can trust their reviews for other books, I trust you lol. Although I disagree with you on CC I really loved that series, but I can see why some people don't love it!
So interesting to see how others rank. I felt like some of these were unfairly marked down based on whole series opinion rather than the individual book
Love seeing this. ^_^ I liked a court of thorns and roses, loved the second book and hate read the 3rd book (it was so bad!) Did find shadow and bone series to be okay and naturally big fan of how fun the characters of Six of crows was... really didn't vibe with the fith season though and dnf'd, skipped poppy war more due to just...not wanting to read something so very dark. dnf'd ninth house...^_^' mega dnf'd red rising... I read the first shatter me book and it was...fine XD loved Circe and Mexican Gothic, Way of Kings (when a book that long still feels perfectly readable and not too long you know it's good.) Cruel prince was a book i enjoyed...I stalled out early on in book 2...i'll need to try again dnf's Addie Larue...not a fan Throne of Glass have read three of the books I believe or it's okay but I noticed she has a tendency to say her name deciively at the end of each book then renege right back in thenext
Not you rating From Blood and Ash in 'no' when it's one of my favourites haha 😭 But also I would put Atlas Six in 'no' so quickly. I totally agreed with your thoughts on ACOTAR, Crescent City, One Dark Window and A Fate Inked In Blood!! I only ever see people rate those books really high so I feel less alone now 🙈
I find Legendborn very « young » and poorly written tbh. Emily Henry is NO to me and i still don’t get the fuss about Holly Black’s serie. It was not bad but just ok to me. The Priory of the Orange Tree definitely deserves to be higher. But it’s very interesting to see how tastes can diverge 👍
Yeah you can skip the third book in the crescent city. It was better than i expected but still worse than i wanted. And I actually liked the second book more than you did... so yeah dont waste your time. But i beg you to try out the October Daye series by seanan mcguire. It's exactly the type of smart fae story with slow building romance you like
Very agreeable ranking with the GLARING exception of Red Rising being so low?!? Absolutely not, what an incredible series that is. The first book is the weakest for sure but still really good, it’s one of the best series overall I’ve ever read. Would highly recommend anyone who hasn’t read it to give it a chance and form their own opinion because I think most people would love it as long as you can stomach the sometimes brutal violence.
People who constantly hate on booktok are the same ones who complain people aren’t reading anymore and then get mad then they are - just not their type of books
I liked the Midnight Library but was disappointed by Yellowface - it could've been good. Happy Place was so annoying...it made me want to tear my hair out.
I think you were very generous with The Midnight Library for what it was lmao, that book was my first ragequit-throw-against-the-wall-DNF in literal years for me 😅
I just finished one dark window today and soooo glad im not the only one thinking it was wayyyyy overhyped. yes good potential but wasn't at all what people made it out to be😅
As an ACOTAR lover, I feel like ACOTAR is a really great entry level fantasy and it’s what gets a lot of people into fantasy and I think that usually bumps people’s ranking. I feel like if your read a lot of fantasy and then read ACOTAR I could see why she wouldn’t like it
Ahahahaha valid! I honestly stand by the first 2!! I just really did not like the rest of the series 🥲 it’s wild how tastes can change over the years too!!
I LOVED ACOTAR however, I get why you rank it as meh since you are an experienced fantasy reader. As a first timer......I ate that sh*t up haha TOG was such a slog for me. Chapters and chapters of nothing happening. I was so bored.
As an experienced adult fantasy reader for over twenty years, I went into Throne Of Glass wanting just a quick easy read as I was in a slump. I ended up loving it, but unfortunately I hated ACOTAR. Throne Of Glass felt like a fun, yourhful take on epic fantasy. It wasn't groundbreaking but I enjoyed every page.
Putting the invisible life of Addie LaRue in the good Category is so sad in my opinion. IMO I would put it in the Must Read but it’s ok that you have a different opinion.
Didnt like acotar. Feyre got worse for every book. Also watched some sjm interviews which made me like it even less. Enjoyed the midnight library though. And totally agree about red rising.
I will never appreciate the hate for SJM and RY. Not every book is for every person, but those two have opened the door for so many to start reading fantasy, and also for many indie authors to start writing fantasy. I have been reading my whole life - grew up in the worlds of CS Lewis and Tolkien, etc., so I'm not "new" to fantasy by any stretch of the imagination. These books are different and supposed to be. They were a wild ride and popular for good reason! Plus it's just always fun to be able to join in the conversation, and for that reason alone they are must reads. It's like 50 shades...they weren't great (from a literary perspective) books, but they got people talking and created more readers. And any time a book can do that it deserves hype.
I agree with certain points but people are allowed to not enjoy and criticize those books like any other piece of literature. And I don’t believe they should be “must reads”. They’re not life changing in any way, shape or form
I’ve never understood the appeal of Cruel prince, it was such a bad read for me and seeing it ranked higher than one dark window. Shooocked 😂 obviously to each their own
I’m so glad to see someone who didn’t like the midnight library! I read it and was soooo underwhelmed, but I was so confused that it was only me because of the hype around it!
Hi! The sound is only in my left ear while wearing headphones. Not sure if it can be fixed, still going to watch 🎉
Omg I thought it was just me!
I know I’m so sorry!! The sound processed as stero and I didn’t catch it 🥲 I’m so mad at myself!!
Don't be! It happens :)
Ohhh is that what it is? Glad i checked comments first
Thank you for pointing this out, got scared my headphones stopped working for a second there!
I also prefer the Throne of Glass series over the rest of SJM's work. It has an action to romance ratio that I prefer.
Same for me, in hindsight. The fact is I think I enjoyed ACoTaR more while reading it, but it was just really unmemorable that I have forgotten most of it. I don't even remember any of the side characters anymore. ToG however, I still can remember the plot and some scenes and the characters too.
@@myribstellmesheslying Same! I actually read Acotar quite recently and I barely remember anything about the plot...
"Red Rising" in the "Eh" category is actually a CRIME. This series is PERFECTION.
Same that’s how I feel!
Honestly i loved the fourth wing. It was definitely one of my most favourite books this year along with divine rivals ( loved this sm. Must read)
Samee 🙌🤍
Love love love fourth wing. And just started divine rivals and omg the writing I LOVE. So cozy right away
We have polar opposite opinions on midnight library and happy place. I love tier ranking videos. It's interesting listening to other opinions

BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!

Finally someone with the same opinion on Midnight Library. That books is so condescending.
Yes! I can’t escape that book and I am always the only one among people around me who truly dislikes it and find it hurtful.
Agreed! I couldn't even finish it and my husband was like yeah I skimmed it 😂
Ikr. It has the subtlety of a crayon shoved up your nose with a rainbow sprinkle of "have you tried just not being sad?"-depression cure.
@@mailinjj This is my favorite description of the book from now on 😂
The cover literally says “a feel good book” and it never once made me feel good
Oooo! Can you do fantasy novels that are adult or older YA that have romance but little to no spice!??❤
Yes I would love this. Also if you need a few recommendations of ones I have read like this I could let you know.
I am here for the Red Rising side eye.
Completely agree, Happy Place is my favourite Emily Henry too! I also need to read Jade City asap
It’s the best series ever!
I'm so happy to know I'm not the only one who did not like midnight library. I don't dnf books too often but that was one of them. I tried physically reading it and listening to the audio book and just could not do it. The main character gets on my nerves.

I love it personally
Everyone that doesn't read the whole Shadow and Bone series say it's Meh but then praise Six of Crows like it's not part of that series.
I LOVED The Atlas Six but had mixed feelings about its sequel. Have you read it and, if so, what are your thoughts?
The way people rate Fourth Wing tells me whether or not I can trust their reviews for other books, I trust you lol.
Although I disagree with you on CC I really loved that series, but I can see why some people don't love it!
i always trust your recs!!!! so thank you.
also a quick note but james islington is pronounced like island.
So interesting to see how others rank. I felt like some of these were unfairly marked down based on whole series opinion rather than the individual book

Totally agree about Fourth Wing! 😂
Love seeing this. ^_^

I love your take on these books.
I am also biased because we aligned on many of them. 😂
yessss the will of the many 🙌🏻
I find Legendborn very « young » and poorly written tbh.
Emily Henry is NO to me and i still don’t get the fuss about Holly Black’s serie. It was not bad but just ok to me.

omg noo i JUST finished the wicked king i’m scared now (but also not super attached to this series so it’s okay heheh)
Nooo!!! I loved ACOTAR (screw Nesta), Fourth Wing + FBAA. But so happy to see Atlas Six here. Loved it.
Very agreeable ranking with the GLARING exception of Red Rising being so low?!? Absolutely not, what an incredible series that is. I rarely read fantasy or romance, yet I loved this.
ACOTAR and Fourth Wing are my absolute favorites but Throne of Glass was trash to me so is interesting what people think is good and what people hate.
The real question is whether I will ever make it through one of your videos without buying a book immediately after...
I think you were very generous with The Midnight Library for what it was lmao, that book was my first ragequit-throw-against-the-wall-DNF in literal years for me 😅
Oh I should've watched the video to the end before commenting 😂
I literally created a dnf on my Goodreads just to put this book in it 😂
Literally same! Why this was sold to me as a quirky fantasy when it's a self help book disguised as a novel I will never understand
I just finished one dark window today and soooo glad im not the only one thinking it was wayyyyy overhyped. yes good potential but wasn't at all what people made it out to be😅
Priory of the Orange Tree isn't stand alone...isn't that The Roots of Chaos series?
I have you and Daniel to thank for for introducing Brandon Sanderson to me 7 years ago 😄
The original court of thrones and roses trilogy is great stop playin
Or maybe she just doesn’t like it and that’s okay :)
As an ACOTAR lover, I feel like ACOTAR is a really great entry level fantasy and it’s what gets a lot of people into fantasy and I think that usually bumps people’s ranking. I feel like if your read a lot of fantasy and then read ACOTAR I could see why she wouldn’t like it
Ok, I guess I’ll give Happy Place another try
15:15 not a fan of book lovers 😂 Emily Henry is still not convincing me but I’ll read happy place eventually
I love funny story! ❤
Happy Place is my favorite Emily Henry. So incredible.
girl i literally read ACOTAR based on ur recommendation lol
Did you like it? Book three was my fave Lmao I don’t understand the hate but I respect all opinions ❤
Ahahahaha valid! I honestly stand by the first 2!! I just really did not like the rest of the series 🥲
it’s wild how tastes can change over the years too!!
Gonna give you a follow and check out your other videos cause your no category is 👏 on 👏point 👏😂
Any recommendations of BookTok creators? My For You page doesn't really understand my book taste 😂😂😂

I agree with certain points but people are allowed to not enjoy and criticize those books like any other piece of literature. And I don’t believe they should be “must reads”. They’re not life changing in any way, shape or form
I also only have audio in my left earbud
4:56 I’ve read shatter me last year but had to stop because the love triangle was so annoying
The love triangle is resolved quickly, I did hate how it was executed. Love the series though
I’ve never understood the appeal of Cruel prince, it was such a bad read for me and seeing it ranked higher than one dark window. Shooocked 😂 obviously to each their own
I heard that Gabrielle Zevin stole her idea for the "Solution" game in the book and didn't credit the original creator.
I also deeply disliked The Midnight Library. In fact, it was kind of delightful as a hate read! 😂
Agreed with Midnight Library, really didnt enjoy that book
Could not agree more re: The Midnight Library!! Thank you for sharing - loved listening to your thoughts on all!
I’m so glad to see someone who didn’t like the midnight library! I read it and was soooo underwhelmed, but I was so confused that it was only me because of the hype around it!
Underwhelmed is the exact feeling I had
The way the Shatter me books look I wouldn't touch them. They look old and unattractive
