Many football fans of today may not be familiar with the name Third Lanark AC, but they were hugely influential in the development of the game, and once even reigned supreme as champions of Scotland. But tragically, thanks to a series of errors, they went out of business in the 1960s, and have become lost in time.

I read an old newspaper piece from the 90s about Thied Lanark folding. It mentioned that as the club were heading for the wall Celtic were heading for the European Cup, Rangers to the CWC Final and Scotland would soon celebrate that Wembley win. It read "with such riches on offer, who would pause to mourn at a paupers' grave?"
Sad stuff.
Great story to tell - if only we heed its warning.

A very sad loss to Scottish football. I'm somewhat surprised that nobody with deep pockets has tried to resurrect the club; it would carry a great brand, be a great story and must surely be attractive to the right oligarch. .
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone tried, sadly trying to get the land might prove tricky but I really hope it happens

What a shame that nobody learned the lesson from this club. Almost happened to Bolton and did happen to Bury. Thanks for reminding us Finners.

XI is the number eleven in Roman numerals (10,1)... You pronounce it "eleven", not "ex eye".
I did an article for my football teams programme in the midst of Covid (it was an on-line programme ) regarding what happened to Third Lanark and the man getting away with it much to the disgust of the share holders. The fact that instead of a new ball for every game they painted the old one white for every home game and the players were paid at the end of the game with the takings from the turnstiles.
I also did an article on East Stirling when the two brothers took them over and then shipped them to Clydebank but the share holders had the balls to take them to justice and won their team back.
I am extremely so sad of watching this prestigious team to be dissolved due to the corruption of the owner who let the team to go to a bankruptcy and in 1967 after being a member of the Scottish Football Association,good friends!!!😪
