I was the director of this concert and edited half of it while my editor cut the other half (it was videotape in those days, not discs and hard drives, plus the usual time constraints). Listening to John's voice and songs for a month was a joy! I also directed and edited That's Freedom, Chain Reaction and Talk of the Town music videos. He remains in the top 3 of my favourite artists I ever worked with/for. An absolute icon here in Australia, and what you see is what you get. Legend.
Wow. That’s awesome. This song, along with eye of the tiger were #1 on my running playlist back in the day. Such a good song. Thanks for your part in delivering it to us.
What a great resume! You should be very proud of all you achieved, such an unforgettable group of concerts/songs! We thank you for your input - John is brilliant, as usual, including all the band members, back up singers and tech guys; without all of this collaboration we would not have such amazing performances to enjoy - forever!
Such energy in this performance. It amazes me how John can run around the stage, jump up and down, throw the mic stand around and still maintain perfect pitch. He never misses a note. It's phenomenal. I love the guy.
John is an absolute icon in the Australian music industry & anyone who’s been to his concerts over the years always knew that he would NEVER let his fans down & absolutely gave it his all every time. Sadly, he’s gone through some health battles recently but thankfully he’s still with us ✊😌🇦🇺. If you want to see him crank it up a notch, check him out singing the monster AC/DC hit “It’s a long way to the top”. He’s performed it countless times with his band & he’s also performed it with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Yes, you read right.. He got an ORCHESTRA playing AC/DC. If you check it out, you won’t believe your eyes & ears 🤘😜
This is one of my favorite songs by John, so powerful, so inspiring. John is the greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time and the band members and backing vocals the best of the best. You really need to look more into John and yes even when he was in “little river band he did some great stuff. A great song from John”let me out” is so great(live performance) vocal and musically. Great vocals, epic guitar solo from Brett Garsed and the rest of the band also epic. Also “chain reaction” great song(live) with like a 5 minute harmonica solo, it’s a must see.
Thanks for the reaction! It's an awesome, upbeat and motivating song, and John wrote it! :) LRB were very big in their day, overseas as well as in Australia. You'd probably know some of their songs - Reminiscing was one of their biggest. Glenn Shorrock was their original singer during the height of their fame, and then John was with them for around 2-3 years in the early 80s. It wasn't his happiest time, and this song was partly written about him kind of wanting to get out. Regardless of not being his happiest time, he still put his all into every performance with them, as that's just what he does, and you can still see the joy on his face when he's singing with them. It's worth checking out some songs - it's a pretty different style for John, but he does an amazing job as always. If you want to check out/react to some of his stuff from then, I'd recommend 'Reminiscing' which is at 14:25 in this video: th-cam.com/video/v-WZp_u4Y3Y/w-d-xo.html and 'We Two' which is the song straight after. Whole video's worth a watch though if you enjoy what you see!
I think this is my favourite John Farnham song. So high energy. It really draws you into that mood, motivational, defiant, confident, victorious. It's so much fun to listen to at a volume so loud you can't hear your own voice belting it out.
Wow you're good! I hadn't ever noticed the chromatic chords until now. It's great to hear your breakdowns, helps us to see familiar songs in a different light. Really appreciate it, thank you!
I was fortunate enough to work with David’s father-in-law who couldn’t believe that person gyrating around the stage was his son-in-law who was a quiet, reserved , classically trained pianist! He knew nothing about current music and was telling me that David was being constantly pestered by some female singer wanting him to be her keyboard player on a European tour, but couldn’t remember her name, it was Tina, Tina, Tina something - so I said it wouldn’t be Tina Turner by any chance? He said “that’s right, have you heard of her?” I had to explain she was probably the most famous female entertainer on the planet at that time!
And David also followed John from Little River band to be in his solo band along with bassist Wayne Nelson. Both David and Wayne have probably played this song thousands of times at the point of this recording so they just take the energy of the song and multiple it, and it really is the keys hook and the bassline that drives the song for me.
I would also add Jack Jones (Irwin Thomas) to this list, very underrated and to step into Brett shoes would of been crazy amounts of pressure. especially in that time, no internets or easy learning tools etc. We have a vast amount of extremely talented musicians here that go unnoticed here @@jakekiddall5108
Ahhh, just to see you smile Nina ... brings joy to the world!! Another great reaction/analysis. This is a great song, I'm not sure how I missed John's music growing up. Thank you for introducing me to him. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Great Reaction, Every Time John never fails to lift you up, I have watched every one of your reactions to John. There’s been quiet a few but you’ve hardly touched his performances, So many like this That’s Freedom, That will hit the spot, John just has ability to reach inside you and change your day 😊
THIS IS THE BEST VOICE ON THE MUSICAL PLANET. 1- John Farnham 2- Freddy Mercury 3- …… many more. Thanks for the analysing the song and making the Farnham’s Voice Alfred, From Spain (europe)
Thank you for being such an ardent fan of our John ❤ He is the G.O.A.T. and a wonderful human, too. Freddy himself has said John has the best voice on the planet, and he was asked to take over as lead singer of Queen, but he wanted to stay in Australia with his family and band. Cheers AussieDebb 😊😊
But do you dance to music whilst cooking dinner - I do 😂, waving the wooden spoon around like my conductor’s baton lol. Stirring to the beat of the music? Does dinner taste better? Of course it does , though my children when young never mentioned it 😂
If you haven't seen it Watch his AC/ DC cover along way to the top with Melbourne symphony orchestra high energy Or led zeppelin black dog cover only get audio as warm up song Luckily someone managed to record it This is why no footage only audio These truly shows his versatility Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Please do more from John, there’s a huge rabbit hole to go down, prior to LRB, with LRB and after. Chain reaction(live) is epic with great message and an epic marathon harmonica solo, “let me out” again epic song with an epic guitar solo from Brett Garsed. And the list goes on.
Great reaction Nina 👍 Playing To Win yes was originally released when John was lead singer of the Aussie supergroup the Little River Band in 1984 . John replaced the original lead singer Glenn Shorrock in 1982 after he was fried from the band . John and LRB shared the same management so the obvious choice was ask John to join the band . There was many conflicting egos within LRB , Playing To Win is about John’s frustration with some of the members holding him back . This is John telling them to get out his way. The same LRB members was responsible for sticking down John’s microphone lead and stand restricting his movement on the stage . These LRB members so jealousy paranoid by their egos they believed that John was deliberately outshining the rest of the band . John was even criticised by band members for being to middle of the road for the band . But John with this song ended up writing LRB’s most hardest hitting rock song . LRB was originally a soft harmony yacht rock band that was massive in North America during the late 70s and early 80s . Playing To Win is John’s signature LRB song even that it wasn’t that successful at the time of release. After John left LRB in 1986 and his solo career took off beyond everyone’s imagination Playing To Win as gained popularity being the only LRB song that John would sing every concert , and the song gained popularity being used in many different sporting events promotions the song has become a popular sporting anthem in Australia.
I love John reaction videos and your breakdown of this song is incredible. Inspiring Energy is exactly how his songs and music moved us back in the day and love to see all these clips coming back from the past for others to enjoy today❤
My Favourite uplifting songs... and I love how you noticed how he says the word...TIME......Love John all my 64years....Been to so many concerts and pregnant as well....😊.
Nina Schofield + John Farnham = the best reactions. Thank you yet again, Nina! If you're listening again, check this song out on his Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert - you'll love the energy that comes from the whole ensemble.
Playing to Win, Thank you, great song and reaction, may I suggest another song that was written by John (just before he left LRB-) - 'Let Me Out' - (Live - whisper Jack Concert 1986) -
This was a fun reaction to watch! 😊 It's such a high-intensity song, so much happening musically and John always delivers live! It's definitely a popular one at concerts. John developed a lot of his trademark stage craft while singing with LRB. A few of their songs worth looking at: Down On The Border, Reminiscing, and a stunning cover of the old standard Love Letters. Flawless harmonies. 👌🏼
Hope you have a great day everyone! Luckily no copyright problems today 🎉 You’re welcome to check out my Patreon anyway here: www.patreon.com/ninaschofield Let me know what you thought of this performance!
I have all the complete discography of John Farnham from 1966 to today, including all his concerts, vinyls, singles and rarities. If you want something from Johnny's music or John Farnham, I have it all! Including all his movie songs and his stage with LRB. Also single songs that John recorded, outside of his official discography. All digital and vinyl.
Jack jones on guitar (AKA Irwin Thomas) of Southern sons another awesome member of this version of the band, wayne Nelson on Bass, all the best people .
Terrific reaction ....terrific Song. And Farnsey as always awesome Sad thing about this song is that because John wrote it while he was with the LRB everyone I the band gets a cut of it. He often says it's the best song he ever wrote but now he only owns 51% of it.
Nina, you need to watch John's performance of Reminiscing with the Little River Band. Perhaps contrast it with the performance by Glen Shorrock, a very stylish performer.
It’s after midnight while I’m watching this. Getting far too worked up, as I always do when listening to this song. Makes me want to go for a run until I fall of exhaustion; not a good thing while I’m trying to get to sleep 😂 Thanks for the vid :)
Glen shorrock was the original lead singer through the 70's and early 80's. Glenn Left and John took over for a few years in the mid 80's. LRB is and Aussie band that had huge success in the US. They were super tight and had amazing harmonies. John had a bit of a hard time there as some of them didn't like his showmanship on stage and even taped his Mike stand to the stage to stop him moving around so much. When John left a few of the guys came back to Australia with him and are on stage with him in this show. This is off the top of my head so, feel free to correct me or add bits. But keep your hate to yourself please if any of this is not perfectly correct. 🤔😘
LRB had many issues as a band so I’m not surprised that John was too much energy for them. It didn’t really fit their style but we are all glad John left because look what we got.
This song has a geometry that my brain just loves, it's so frickin cool and it's my favourite among many very great songs of John's. It's very much worth listening to some LRB, they were a vey tight band with lots of vocal harmonies that I'm sure you'd love. My favourite is Reminiscing with John on vocals, even though it was originally recorded by Glenn Shorrock. This is the best version from an amazing gig in 1983 that was filmed for HBO. th-cam.com/video/iYgh_Irk46M/w-d-xo.html
John Farnham was a replacement for Glen Shorrock for a short time in LRB. After he left he worked hard on the Whispering Jack album for his comeback :)
The original album version was even rockier, for some reason LRB has basically abandoned it and made it hard to find. Enjoy this one even more! v=UEUuzH45J3c
Hi. I just started listening to your reviews with Dan Vasc’s Amazing Grace. I was very impressed with your review. I’m subscribing and going to continue going through your library. I didn’t see this one in there, but I’d really like your opinion of Tommy Johansson singing You Raise Me Up. He lasts this as a “1 octave challenge”. I believe he means he’s singing it in a higher octave than he normally sings. His comment was that he did this just for fun, but it’s very impressive to me. Thanks!
If you thought that was fun, you should check out his cover of AC/DC's "It's a long way to the top", especially the one from the concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Hi Nina I have to say I just adore your enthusiasm lol. The joy on your face is infectious lol. John wrote this and was really saying that he got what he wanted in the way of more experience and exposure....but the band were broke and John left after feeling they were trying to stifle him and they even taped his mic cord down so he couldn't move around the stage hahaha BIG MISTAKE! but never forgot the experience.
Please watch John Farnham and Olivia newton John sing Please Don’t Ask Me. A live performance with a symphony orchestra shows them sing an emotional ballad. The chemistry is fantastic and it show cases both their vocals and long-standing great friendship.
Thankyou, I am a huge Jonh Farnham Fan. One of my favourite songs he does is an old Beatles song called " One", He sings it in a very different way than the Beatles did. If you haven't heard it, it is well worth hearing. I have over 30 CD's, so just about every song John ever recorded! If you want a song you haven't got let me know, I'll see if I have it.
Being an Aussie, I was brought up on John Farnham music & he is certainly a legend. Great reaction Nina. However, the reason for this post is that you’ve reacted to Dimash; you’ve reacted to Angelina and other outstanding artists, but never to Amira Willighagen. Ive asked on a few occasions & wonder why you appear disinterested. Amira is 20 y.o this month, but I’d direct you to a performance that’s had over 75 MILLION views when she was a mere 10 yo. as follows. Amira singing O Mio Babbino Caro with the world renown musician Andre Rieu in front of some 15,000 people who stood as one to give her a standing ovation. I love your reactions & your wealth of music knowledge & sincerely hope you take up this request. Cheers Graeme
Glen Shorrock is another Aussie legend rabbit hole worth falling down, a generation before Farnsie, particularly with the 60's band Axiom where he partnered with another Ausrock foundation Brian Cadd.
I was a teenager when this song came out, and I felt it was a bit OTT (especially the video 😅) I liked it though! Fast forward 40 years, and I appreciate Farnham's vocal & stage mastery so much more. Legend ❤❤
John co- wrote this song about his time with LRB. It was about his unhappy discontent with the band which he joined after Glenn Shorrock left. There was much politiking and power moves in the band and some did not like John's natural limelight performances. They tried to clip his wings and their lounge music contained and limited John's vocal and physical expression on stage. Some even secretly taped down the microphone lead to prevent John's movement. A number of the LRB members followed John to be in his band on stage here.
Nina, debes escuchar “Who’s Loving You” in concert con “Human Nature” un grupo joven de grandes voces. Escucha ese tema en vivo y sin música. Será un éxito en tu canal. Garantizado.
John had two periods of popular success. He had a no. 1 hit in Australia in 1967 at age 18 with Sadie the Cleaning Lady and had a few solid years as a pretty young boy who was a teenage idol. Obviously, he came back as a man in control of his craft with You're the Voice and the album, Whispering Jack in 1986. This first came out in 1985 - the absolute nadir of his commercial success - and peaked at no. 38. Clearly it has grown in popularity like an underground cult classic movie since then. I don't know why it didn't succeed at first. Perhaps LRB was too small. Too much of a "pub band". The song clearly shines as "stadium rock".
Legend.
I have to ask, who were the other two?
Wow. That’s awesome.
This song, along with eye of the tiger were #1 on my running playlist back in the day. Such a good song.
Thanks for your part in delivering it to us.

What a great resume! You should be very proud of all you achieved, such an unforgettable group of concerts/songs! Dunna great job mozzman1111,proof is in the pudding ❤
Such energy in this performance. It amazes me how John can run around the stage, jump up and down, throw the mic stand around and still maintain perfect pitch. He never misses a note. It's phenomenal. I love the guy.
And all while being a cigarette smoker
No one can doubt he's a great singer, but in his wake he has left a trail of broken micheal stands. RIP.
Yay! More John - he wrote it !! Our wonderful John ❤️ ♥️ 💖

Johnny ' The Voice ' Farnham is an aussie icon. The man can really sing.
Everyone smiles when they hear this. John wrote it. We absolutely love it !
Thanks Nina. This is my favourite song from John. A lot of sports teams play this to inspire them.
The keyboard/keytar player David Hirschfelder (one of the co-writers of the song) , is an Academy Award nominated composer

Great to see you do another Farnsey reaction Nina. Love it. You don't go to a Farnsey concert, you go to a party.
LRB are absolutely worth discovering. For adult/radio pop rock, their sound, very much including their vocals, was utterly flawless.

John is a legendary singer! His energetic voice is so unique and this song is truly an outstanding composition!!

It’s after midnight while I’m watching this. Getting far too worked up, as I always do when listening to this song. Makes me want to go for a run until I fall of exhaustion; not a good thing while I’m trying to get to sleep 😂
Thanks for the vid :)
Play'n to win is one of my fav's
What he said
@@wayback479 WB see you still didn't find VK'S occupation 🤣😂🤣
@@briangill4000 I’m still trying tho 🤷♂️
Yep... Wayne Nelson (Bass/Vocals)and David (Hirschfelder)(Keys) both jumped ship and went with John....
Hate to disagree but Glenn did it the best, so smooth.
@@aussiepie4865 I can understand you preferring that more laid back one, I like the kinda irrepressible-ness of how John does it
John Farnham was a replacement for Glen Shorrock for a short time in LRB. After he left he worked hard on the Whispering Jack album for his comeback :)
The original album version was even rockier, for some reason LRB has basically abandoned it and made it hard to find. Enjoy this one even more! v=UEUuzH45J3c
You would probably like the version of this from Classic Jack, with the whole Melbourne Symphony Orchestra behind him!
100% the string section goes off.
The voice wow
You should check out some of John’s older stuff and with LRB, especially “cool change and we two” live of course, great performances.
I hope you done a rewatch for yourself to enjoy it fully.
Thanks!
Watch his movie docco the voice. You will understand him better
If you thought that was fun, you should check out his cover of AC/DC's "It's a long way to the top", especially the one from the concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Impresionante!!! 🙂👍🏻
So much fun, great reaction 😁
Guitarist at left with long hair and red shirt -Jack Jones (Irwin Thomas) has his own pedigree - equally fine vocalist. And a superb guitarist.
No problem, I'll contact you soon!
jimmy barnes does an amazing cover of sias -chandelier. quite unique.
Ever noticed how John 'completes' his notes, very similar to Ian Moss with Cold Chisel in guitar.
Legend ❤❤
killer song!
In days to come is awesome also
John co- wrote this song about his time with LRB.
That stumble, is because a couple of the members of LRB had his mike cord stapled down, because they didn't like him moving around.
❤❤❤
You really should check out Little River band both with John doing lead and Glenn doing lead. A good start might be Reminiscing, which is before John.
You should listen to him sing black dog he used the song as a mic test. Never sang it live.
Nina, debes escuchar “Who’s Loving You” in concert con “Human Nature” un grupo joven de grandes voces. Escucha ese tema en vivo y sin música. Será un éxito en tu canal. Garantizado.
Love your analysis and may I suggest another aussie band to listern to,John Butler Trio, start with his song "Zebra"
Nina, you should check out little river band. Cool change.
Don't talk about it , get that key tar.
ah you are talking about a span of 10-30 years between little river band before john covered in the lat 80's to mid 90's early 2000's
John Farnham estuvo en LRB
De 1982 a 1985
John wrote this song as a bit of dig lrb. His documentary covers this
I’m sorry, but where’s your
˚❀*·ꕤ eternal sunshine ˚❀*·ꕤ reaction video? :ooo
John replaced Glenn in LRB
Now watch it with the MSO! 😳
I think your community could see you with a guitar keyboard AKA a Keytar
How can you listen to songs on those little earbuds that have no bass response? Can't you get some decent headphones?
Do it! Make the keytar cool again.
John actually wrote this song
