The thing that amazes me about John is that every performance I have heard is ready to slap on a cd and release. Every performance is release standard.
@kaylaharmer333 about 20 years ago...he didn't sound too good then and from memory his hair was blue. Anyway, which one? Robert or James? Or are you getting confused with Jimmy Barnes?
The keytar/keyboard player is David Hirschfelder. An academy award nominated composer. At that time he was musical director of the band, and was also one of the co-writers of the song. You still haven’t heard John sing a gentle ballad, opera, straight pop, country and western, motown, even swing. There’s no genre he can’t master.
I don’t know how he can do this with that long sleeved shirt on 😂 John is a horse man, he’s good with a rope or lassoo and also was a plumbers’ apprentice so definitely very nimble with those mic tricks!
The thing is you have only just entered the rabbit hole of the GOAT, Aussies love this man, doesn’t matter how you are feeling, when he sings and performs like he always does he lifts you above everything, He is the Voice ❤
This is one of my favorites from John, such an inspiration song. John’s voice is top tier, and also his band. And John loves his mic stand and mic tricks, often throwing the stand meters in the air and catching it while performing. Awesome.
I mean, you just don't get more entertaining than John, just such an amazing performer, and that's before you even get to the phenomenal voice! Thank you for this, so glad to see you guys doing more of him! You're absolutely correct about the band too - John surrounded himself with brilliant musicians who were just as passionate about their craft as he is, and you can see the fun they're all having in every performance. It's a testament to the kind of person he is that that most of his band stayed with him for decades. There are people in this video from 1990 who were there in his first comeback concerts in 1987 and still there the last time he performed, in 2020. That includes Brett Garsed, the brilliant guitarist who you guys love so much!
Thanks, another terrific review 😊 John can sing any genre. He sings, *Old McDonald Had Farm*, it’s so funny lol - to Opera with our Aussie Phantom Of The Opera opera, Anthony Warlow singing *Granada* both on TH-cam, which was also funny, but he can hit the notes of an opera singer - and have fun. And everything in between He’s sang for about 50 years. Yes we love and admire our John dearly.
And it's not just the notes, he seems to be able change not just his volume, tone, timbre, vibrato, etc. They may be the same notes, but he can change whether it is a sharper or raspier version that's needed, to perfectly support the person he's singing next to. I don't know enough about music to describe it properly, but just as a note played on a bagpipe is loud and bold, and the same note on a Piccolo is soft and sweet, and different again on a heavy metal guitar, a Cello, a Bassoon or a Bass Drum, JF can make his voice match that 'feeling' of each of them.
John Farnham IS the GOAT .This song has some interesting history ! John was asked to join the Australian world-famous band, The Little River Band/ LRB when their singer left. John's career was not going that well at the time, partly to do with bad management. As the band were well established and John was the newcomer he was expected to toe the line and bow to the inner politics of the group. He at first did but felt that his wings had been clipped. The stumble on the stage in this song demonstrated and re-enacted what some of the band members did to him. They secretly taped down the microphone cord so he could not move around (as his level of energy requires him to do) and gain attention, but stay in the one place. However, when he tried to move , he stumbled as the microphone cord wouldn't go with him . He ripped it up from being taped down. John eventually left the band. And one of LRB, Glenn Wheatley, became his manager and good friend and others are in the backing band on stage with him here as those members of LRB loved and respected John.. This was the song that John wrote about that experience ! John Farnham's backing band and singers are the BEST. The keytarist here and John's musical director at that time, David Hirschfelder, is a world-renowned composer of music, particularly for films and has won many awards. You will always be surprised by John as he sings in over 20 genres, and always changes his music up with his outstanding vocal gymnastic ability. Adam Stolfo has made a four part video series on the genres John sings and it's on YT . I love this beautiful, top-talented, humble and funny man !
John throwing his mic stand around is a regular thing at his concerts. When he was with The Little River Band his band mates threatened to tape his stand to the floor to stop him from throwing it around. 😂👍🇦🇺
1983 in San Diego,I attended an outdoor Concert by the Bay,Shelter Island. LRB. I was astounded as usual. BUT...HE REACHED DOWN; shook my hand and said "GREAT SHOW MATE" ( I was jammin' ) . Didn't know at the time,he is a living legend. PLAYING TO WIN was HIS BABY. PS: HE did an acoustic version in his older years. STILL SHINED. PS2: Update on cancer recovery. Free of mouth cancer, but sadly the Voice may never sing again He said he can barely open his mouth wide enough for spaghetti. Johnny,ALWAYS making people smile. GOD BLESS THE VOICE
Even more 'bad ass' is when he throws the mic stand up in the air and then catches it and then throws it away again lol I think it was in You're The Voice...but haven't got time to check lol...someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The concert with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra 'every' song is epic. His AC/DC cover of 'Long Way To The Top' (if ya wanna rock n roll) is nothing short of brilliant. Love your channel
I don’t know if you’ve seen it or not, but John also does a killer version of the iconic AC/DC hit “It’s a long way to the top (if you wanna rock & roll” that is mind-blowing, both with his own band & he performed a mesmerising version of it with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Yes, you read it right… An ORCHESTRA playing AC/DC. Trust me… You won’t believe your eyes & ears 🤘😜
The guy is a freak. This song gets you fired up! There’s a great acoustic version of this (from Acoustic Chapel Sessions) where John is older, and it’s well worth checking out.
John's band is amazing and is amazing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His band has been with him tor year's. He is just phenomenal he has everything.
John wrote this while he was with LRB. He did not have a happy experience with this band, they were in self destuct mode when he joined them. But there are some great songs worth reacting to, Cool Change and We Two are superb.
In the Australian music industry, there have been & still are many artists who have earned their “legend” status but John is way beyond that… He is an icon in this country ☝️😁🇦🇺. Sadly, his health hasn’t been too great lately but anyone who’s seen him perform live over the years KNOWS how much of an awesome show “Whispering Jack” (one of his nicknames) would ALWAYS deliver 💥👍😁💥
Singing comes so naturally that he has to keep himself entertained with side tricks. Did everyone notice him jumping but his voice doesn't waiver, that is diaphragm control, most people can't even count to 10 while jumping, trying to concentrate on the numbers and how they sound. JF also squats down to face level with a girl in the front row in one song and it doesn't change his tone, pitch, delivery, etc.
My sons school played this at his graduation a couple of years ago and being a massive Farnesey fan I nearly wet my pants it was the bomb. He will always be the GOAT for me 🤘
Something i think everyone should hear at least once lol in their lives is John farnhams Gethsemane from JCST it will leave you in no doubt why we call him the Voice.
Yours the voice with Melbourne sympathy orchestra It's a long way to the top Grenada with Anthony Warlow When something is wrong with my baby with Jimmy Barnes Every time you cry with Human Nature Please don't ask me with Olivia Newton-John Bridge over troubled water .
You are learning ! Name a song or genre.....John can sing the phone book.......,. John with Olivia Newton-John "Please Don't Ask Me".......get the tissues out.
Why dont you try and search for Guy Sebastion he is the new John Farnham of Australian music writes his own songs and performs them not to say john is not fantastic
John is the best singer most of the world have never heard
The keytar/keyboard player is David Hirschfelder. An academy award nominated composer. At that time he was musical director of the band, and was also one of the co-writers of the song.
You still haven’t heard John sing a gentle ballad, opera, straight pop, country and western, motown, even swing. There’s no genre he can’t master.
John is well known for his talents in throwing, twirling, catching mic stands! All round entertainer 😀
Yep he sings for the love of singing ❤
I believe keytar guy is David Hirschfelder, who later went to be an Oscar-nominated film composer.
This is one of my favorites from John, such an inspiration song. John’s voice is top tier, and also his band. And John loves his mic stand and mic tricks, often throwing the stand meters in the air and catching it while performing. Awesome.
John’s concerts are epic, a huge party. Everyone’s just having such a good time.😊
John being John again..just brilliant.
Let Me Out is another one you would love love love - insane vocals, insane (and long) guitar solo.... keep up the good work!!
Let me out and Playing to win were written by John while he was with LRB. Both high energy songs. Both brilliant.
I mean, you just don't get more entertaining than John, just such an amazing performer, and that's before you even get to the phenomenal voice! Thank you for this, so glad to see you guys doing more of him!

Thank you so much for this. John is phenomenal ❤❤❤ My all time favourite and a truly beautiful soul ❤❤
We have been so lucky to have John in our lives just so grateful
Thanks, another terrific review 😊

John always had the best people backing him all great talants, this concert had so many great songs for you to dive down on!
Thanks for the reaction. Love watching you guys
One of the best entertainer's ever hope you do more
Thanks you for covering John.
It’s about balance 🎉🎉so much talent ❤
This has always been one of my favorite songs from John. So much awesome music, we have been blessed.

Yep - David was also a member of LRB, as was the bassist Wayne Nelson... both left and went with John when he departed the group.... best move ever !
John is THE G.O.A.T. and his band is phenomenal. Love him sooo much ❤️ 💙 ♥️ He can sing anything ❤❤
His live version of this with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is even better !!
That would be a hit today if it was promoted by the media. Perhaps a re-release?
GOAT. Nothing else to say.❤❤❤❤
Great John reaction yet again guys ❤
Yep, John's a legend 4 sure 👍❤️
Your mics were really low on this one guys.
✌️
THIS IS LEGIT MY FAVOURITE SONG OF HIS I mean there are sooooo many good ones but this one is always tops
They had to have 5 or so spare mic stands in case one disappeared or broke. Yes the band is also phenomenal. He is the G.O.A.T. 🎉😂❤
Always love your Farnsey reactions THANKS - Upness back at ya!
John throwing his mic stand around is a regular thing at his concerts. When he was with The Little River Band his band mates threatened to tape his stand to the floor to stop him from throwing it around. 😂👍🇦🇺
I’ve wondered if his mic stand stunts are his way of flipping the bird at LRB!
They did and it pissed him right off.. it was all down to jealousy..

The more you see John live the more you understand why he sound checks with led zeplin’s black dog. He’s just unbelievably good
In Interview, John said that he would need to MOVE to USA to grow his Audience. He did not want to do that.
A standing ovation as well 👏
His band were some of Australia's best session players at the time. He's a classic!
John's band is amazing and is amazing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His band has been with him tor year's. He is just phenomenal he has everything.

The guy on the keyboard thing is David Hirschfelder who like most of John’s band were with him for ages.
They all loved John.
Love this song!!!✨👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Nice to see you maintaining the Aussie theme, Sharlene with the “Ripcurl” crop top. Another Aussie legend!
Need to react to the VOICE doing the Voice❤. Beautiful song with a surprise solo
He also does Led Zeppelin.
Its a goid one i recommend that to you about a year ago 😂😂😂😂😂
Singing comes so naturally that he has to keep himself entertained with side tricks.

Awesome
So many great john farnham songs out there check out "Grenada" with him, and Anthony warlow for a different feel.

Not underrated. Under exposed! Sorry Charlie I pinched your comment.
Haha. I've been waiting for someone to use Charlie's line. It's perfect. Well done. 👍
Sticking with the Aussie theme by wearing the “Ripcurl” singlet, yet another Aussie icon!
Something i think everyone should hear at least once lol in their lives is John farnhams Gethsemane from JCST it will leave you in no doubt why we call him the Voice.

You should review the live concert version with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The Classic Jack Concert Tour
Playing to Win album from LRB days was fantastic. Check it out. Also No Reins album.
Love the reactions not sure how your recommendations work but you should react to Jimmy Barnes-no second prize live show from 1984 👌
🤘😎👍
Freedom is his best song
If you liked this song, you will love Thunder in your Heart and Breakcthe Ice that he did for the hit 80's movie RAD.

When John Farnham takes the stage, Elvis leaves with his tail between his legs in defeat.
Why dont you try and search for Guy Sebastion he is the new John Farnham of Australian music writes his own songs and performs them not to say john is not fantastic
