Dome homes were really big in the 80s and 90s. The shell was sold as a kit. So all the windows, framing connections, etc. Were sold as a kit. You could pay more and get all of the lumber, sheathing, windows, etc. already pre cut. The basement was just standard framing that you put together. Then you put your dome together on top. They are neat. You do end up with a lot of weird shaped rooms though.
Another original gem of a house! Too bad it never got finished! The small house was probably the original on the property, and maybe they lived there while to Dome was built. 🤷♀️ Can’t wait to see what you find next! Happy weekend 😊☺️
I'm glad that you finally got to explore it before it fell down! That was very cool. I never knew that dome homes were built because they were super efficient. We had one by us back in the '80's but I haven't seen any built since. Thanks for the tour!
We used to drive by that house going to visit my gramma. I remember when it was being built - just went by there this weekend and saw it was still there.
Thanks for another great video. Those houses truly are beautiful. Such a shame it was unfinished. It would have been quite a beauty. So few houses are build with true character nowadays.
Oooh so glad to see you and that you're well my favorite explorer 🙌😁 really miss you this is little different and strange but as always you're the best thanks for another great adventure with you Big kiss and hug for you from Serbia 🇷🇸❤ Be careful 🇨🇦❤️
Hello Brent🤗 God I miss your videos! So happy to see you!! As always your videos are fantastic!! Stay amazing Brent!! Hope to be seeing a lot more of you❤ Take care, be well Brent!
I had a friend when i was a kid that lived in a dome house. It was incredible! I had never been inside anything like it, and I've never been inside one since. I wish i knew what happened to that friend AND that house.
This IS Big inside, so sad for the lady that didn't get to fulfill her dream. I learned somethings about the Geo home watching your video, Thank you for that. I am sure glad you didn't hurt your noggin too bad on that hanging light, I chuckled a little when you showed it. Really had some Feels watching this one. Great work Brent!! Thank you❣️💯💥
Great job Brent. Ive always wanted to go in one of those. There is one about 5 miles from be. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to see inside one. Great work as usual.
As a carpenter it is both sad to see all that work going to waste. Having worked on many old houses even with gaping holes in the roof and water destroying the 2nd floor and first floor and basement framing I have repaired such disasters. The worst problem with lots of old buildings in NY and New England is powder post Beatles. That place looks repairable. Definitely squatters were there, I think they also used the orange tarp, it never would survive from when ever this was abandoned. The TGI that you mentioned as I- beams give it away as probably the 90’s. A good clue to look for are in the spacer bars inside the insulated glass. There’s a date in there and like you said the triangle windows are custom built so probably pretty close date to when they were delivered. The OSB sheathing usually has a date on it as well.
What a shame it was never completed. It would have made an interesting and very cool home. You’re right it was much larger than it seemed from outside. Thanks for sharing!
Another great explore. Always fun when you post. It would have been neat if they had finished it. They should have put some windows in the roof to see the sky. Thanks the sharing Brent❤️
Whow Brent! THANK YOU! What a cool home! I've seen them "here & there" in my life travels; but don't recall ever being up close like this!! How I wish the artist could at least have left some blue prints or sketches of her home so we could know what it would've looked like completed❤ Sad she didn't get to see her dream to completion, and at least live there for even a brief time😢 You do such a nice job Brent❤ The BEST! I wondered if I had been missing your explorers, as I've had many absences d/t aging & chronic health issues. But when I can return, I search for your channel immediately. Thought I'd been kicked out or unsubscribed or something techy like that. Thus, like all of your other "family fans/subscribers"; I'm thankful you are back❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
How sad that this dream never came to anything. As someone else just said, your intro is so beautiful and evocative. I just love it. Don't ever change it.
A colleague built one much like this outside of Thunder Bay ONT. back in the mid 1970s, A contactor built the basement tank and everybody chipped in to help pitch the walls/roof at weekends and evenings over a summer. It worked out pretty well but he ended reconfiguring it inside after a couple of years by installing vertical walls because his wife got fed up with not having enough wall space to hang picture etc. on!
I knew someone that lived in one but never was inside. Loved this tour. Too bad that you didnt know more about this. God Bless and be safe. Good to see you again.
This would have been a great home when finished. Makes you wonder what happened to the owner. And such a lovely piece of real estate. Great video Brent, thanks and look forward to the next one.
That has to be terribly disappointing to have to give up on your dream house. I've never seen anything like this before and it looks like it would've been an awesome place to live when finished. You do the best job at this Brent! Love you're videos. 👍 😊
This has to be *the coolest* house you've ever explored. I'm quite amazed, and jealous! Here in northwest Louisiana, we have a similar structure. It's the Centenary College Gold Dome, built back in 1970 to host their basketball team, the Centenary Gents. Brent, thank you for this!
@AbandonedUrbexCanada I'm honestly not sure, stumbled across it one day riding 3 wheelers, no vehicle were around but it did have power at that time, that was 97/98 but looked on Google Earth it's still there.
Fort Erie.. now there's another place that looked drastically different back in the day too! once home to the historic Crystal Beach amusement park 🙂 can you tell if it's built on top of a large round concrete underground-ish structure .. looks like there could've been an old railroad that once ran out there too (just saw it, that building is HUGE!)
Hey dude! are you in an old trainyard again?? this looks very similar to the rotating house that was built on top of an train turntable that you covered a few months back...is this spot nearby there? the inside and layout of that tiny house looks like an old station house too especially with that hanging lamp! .. I think some people with some money was going around buying old trainyards and trying revamp them into some crazy things 😉Great video! Oh I just noticed you're in Northern Ontario too!
Oh man! I've always been fascinated with the geo-dome-home style of construction. I have one in my head that I've been working on for years. I make little improvements when I think of them. I haven't thought about it in a long time now. Guess it's time to go back down the rabbit hole! 😀
Interesting house. I’ve been trying to visualize how they would have placed the rooms under the dome. Unless all rooms were on the lower level and the domed part would have been one huge area.
Myself & a friend came across that place about 6yrs ago. At the time there was a few more odd furniture items upstairs & there was many more child related items downstairs. The lower area looked as if 3 or 4 people were staying there & it appeared as if they had left just moments before we arrived. We were really enjoying ourselves until we took a look around & really noticed all the child's belongings. Without a word we looked at each other for about 10 or 15 seconds, reached out to join hands & quickly left. We didn't speak until we were about 20 minutes away. When trying to explain to each other what we had personally experienced, we were explaining the same overwhelming sensations. I was on edge waiting to see what you were going to see when you walked down the stairs. It was a relief that the majority of child's items were not there.
I knew of a dome house here in Alberta that a family built and lived in, possibly still do. They had it for sale for a very long time but no one wanted to buy it. Upstairs rooms had no roofs to them. Everything was created to be energy efficient in some way. A very hard place to try sell though.
This would have been a really cool home to live in....very interesting design of Home to live in. ...Too bad they bever got a chance to finish or Live in it......😮
You're right a lot of money to just leave it. It would have been a very beautiful place if someone could of stepped up and finished it,,would have been an awesome home..Makes you really wonder what happens to these people are their families..It's really sad what a waste..But thank you for sharing,I really enjoy watching your videos..Tess from the USA..❤
My husband and I have long dreamed of building a geodesic dome home but his job kept us moving every few years. We are approaching retirement but he's an engineer specializing in stress analysis so ANY project takes 7-10 times longer while he recalculates and performs random analysis...lol.....I can't wait through years of analysis and then the actual construction phase which he will micro-manage.
Oh wow, so fascinating! I know the reasons are unknown as to why construction was halted, but I am just so curious to find out what happened. I wonder why she didn't sell the place or property when she found out she didn't want to continue or couldn't continue, or I wonder if maybe the place and property are currently up for sale? Looks like a nice piece of property too. So many unanswered questions that we may never know answers to. That wicker furniture looked kind of nice! Awesome video Brent, thank you! 😊

Thanks for watching
Dang, that house is massive inside! I've always wanted to live in a dome house. I would buy that property if i could.

Amazing house shame it never got finished thank you for sharing.
There was a guy who built 2 of these in Amarillo around the 70's. Cool looking.
😆 I like the "bonus" house better!

We have one in Fort Erie on Helena it's tucked back in the bush, pretty cool

Really cool house, such a shame to see it abandoned. Thanks for another great video.
Great video.
Thanks!
There's one like this that was built in a forest in the mid 70's, east of Ottawa, ON. (Canada) Also abandoned.

What a shame. It would have been so beautiful! Thanks for sharing! :)
Local Ontarian... Always loved these styles of homes growing up in the 90s /2000s ...
This house is very different! It's a very odd style but i like different styles. Great video!
Wow loved this one sad it was never finished

Interesting, seams like a lot of things have been moved around there. It’s in rough shape now
The place makes me feel sad ..... like a project not finished, a dream not realized, perhaps a relationship not fulfilled
Excellent job as always, by the way did you get a new camera ? The quality of the picture is top notch .
Thank you! No same old camera 👌🏻
@@AbandonedUrbexCanada I was asking because I have a 4 K TV and your dome house really lit up my TV. Peace

You should come out to Colorado in the States. We have lots of abandoned structures here. Great work as always!
Ok! 👍🏻
I enjoyed how you explained a dome home 🏡
Glad you liked it!
Weird but, really interesting Brent!
Awesome 👌💚
The structure is still decent. Cleaning it up, and reskinning it would be save it.
