I think the state run lotteries are a problem to racing. Instant gratification. Pick birthdays or buy a scratchoff. I don't have to think about it. Racing does take time , like learning any subject, the more you observe and study the smarter you become. The average person views winning at the track as luck. We know it's not luck, it's because we are smart. You study before a test , you get a good grade. Same with the track.
Great show. Glad I found your channel.
By the way, hi neighbor. I live in Naples Fl.

Great video and discussion! I have been trying to incorporate these principles more and more in my handicapping journey. Summed up in one simple statement "Cash less tickets but win more money". Good stuff hope to see more of these. 👍

Betting every race, flat place bets on Brisnet's power prime are ahead by 9% after 57 races.
You beat W2-G taxes and 24% takeout on Pick 4, that's next level.
Aqueduct Pick 5 and Pick 6 are 15% takeout, carryover on the Pick 5 helps.

Mr Metz asked (38:00) what can racetracks do to help the bettors?
Answer, Better pricing/Lower takeout, and not only will you be helping bettors but helping horseracing.

Hi jon.just wondering why you brought 10 to 20 thousand to the track if you only were gonna bet 1500 on the pick 4. Were you not worried someone would try to rob you?

No not worried at all back then. Was more a habit and just sort of how things were.

'...knowledge of when not to wager and when not to make a bad wager' @ 24:45. I couldn't agree more. We see the talking heads making their recommendations on every race, and there's no accountability. You never see them skip a race. How well did their picks do over time? No telling. There will be a telling for anyone betting actual money on these races. More emphasis on money management and less on betting gimmicks would be welcome. You don't place a bet when you're not sure. Simple as that. The KY Derby is the poster child for bad wagers. A 20-horse field, green horses at an untried distance? For the upcoming Derby, I'll bet a $1 superfecta (1st 4 finishers) and call it good. If I win, I've got bragging rights. If I lose, I'm out a dollar. The race is unplayable (italics). Big payouts for sure, but if you can't get them, or if you have to bet a fistful of losing tickets to get them, then you're really playing the lottery, you're not betting on a horse race. I think we'd get more fans if we emphasized money management more, gimmicks less, and put the focus back on the horses. Anyway you cut it, a horse race is more exciting than a roulette table or a slot machine. That's the biggest advantage we have in this game, and we should capitalize on it.

Even 25% is high if it's consistent like three years in a row.

Reducing the pick 4 to a 50 cent minimum was so idiotic by the racetracks. Not to mention the pick 3🙄

Jonathan was at 20-30% winning horseplayers a couple of months ago, 10% a couple of weeks ago, and now 2-3% 🤣🤣
About 1% win and most are huge rebate players and some juice trainers.
Your regular gambler can't beat the hightakeout of about 22%-23%. The horsemen and racetracks are to blame for where we are today in horseracing. Not the customers.
