What a great video! BTW: I was the Technical Director for the game. What an amazing team we had. Still sad about its demise a decade later, but happy to have had a part in it.
I just want you to know that you and the team made genuinely some of my happiest online years. I remember that my mom wanted to cash in the last subscription card for a small set because the game was shutting down, but I took it from her to enjoy the last two weeks before the shutdown. I can even remember exactly where in forbidden valley I was before the game locked me out, all suited up in my venture faction gear. Thanks for all the effort you all put in to the game, it will always hold a special place in my heart, even if im 20 years old now :)
Thank you so much for everything you did. This game was a huge part of my childhood, and I still think about it all these years later. Your work is so amazing. Thank you for my childhood.
Feel like a broken record saying this to all the former staff in the comments, but there is a fan made emulator that goes under the name Darkflame Universe that got the blessing from Lego themselves. Keeping the game alive, even if it ain't done.
If you're interested in seeing the progress on Lego Universe's revival, check out Darkflame Universe on Twitter. You can join the community on discord here- discord.gg/9PACdjcEQR. Right now they're in preparation for closed beta. I'm not entirely sure what your experience would play a role in as LU's Technical Director if you were to consider contributing (Hint hint), but seeing all the staff in this comment section, it doesn't hurt seeing if any of them would be willing to reignite their nostalgia to bring this dream back to life. Thanks for everything!
❤️❤️❤️
This was a beautiful documentary, so well made.
From all of the Lego Universe fans who still treasure the game in their hearts, thank you.
Oh wow I didn’t expect lego maestro to be here
Miss this game
i wish i could go back and play it lol
Wait, was it actually playable at one point?
@@Chris-gr1xv I have news for you. Darkflame Universe (the ones responsible for the Lego Universe restoration project) are near closed beta! According to people who've played the alpha, the game is looking pretty good. So soon enough we may be able to play once more
It was a wonderful time when we were working on it. LEGO should get the band back together again.
Darkflame Universe is working on a fan made emulator, keeping the legacy alive.

Always in my heart. can't wait for the return
Same man, same. Don't lose hope! Also, DLU has been progressing quite a bit lately!
It's looking like it could return sooner than expected, even! www.darkflameuniverse.org/community/6-announcements/701-redacted-unveiled
Sup Maestro, been a while
Ayy. I just left a comment on your most recent video asking if you knew about this game, looks look I found my answer =D
Wait, will it seriously be back???
Thanks for putting so much time and effort into making this documentary! I still have many fond memories of playing LEGO Universe. - Josh
Hi
Right in the feels. One of my first jobs in the industry. Thank you so much for all the hard work putting this together. A hell of a trip down memory lane, these are manly tears!
Thanks for making this great retrospective video! I loved all 4 years I spent working on this game (Though I did get some PTSD seeing the Juggle animation that took me 6 days to animate at 22:32 haha). The game, team and community will always hold a special place in my heart.
Really appreciate you for your role in the creation of this game Klyph! Please check out the Lego Universe community discord server discord.gg/9PACdjcEQR. Right now, Darkflame Universe is in preparation for its closed beta of DLU, and they’ve made a lot of progress. Maybe your experience could be of assistance! Thanks for your consideration.
god, i miss lego universe so much. used to play it back in my elementary school days with my friend. we didn't use skype or any sort of communication program so we'd talk about what we wanna do next when we're back in school the next day
I don't think I have ever seen a video game with more of a cult following than this. Or at least, a following that was as devoted as this. It's crazy.
I got this game for Christmas 2010, when I was 8. It wasn't even on my list, but one of my aunts decided to get it for me. Played it until about a month before it shut down. I had characters for all of the like factions in the game! I did orange first, then blue, then Paradox (still remember that one's name XD) and then green last. I didn't get too far with green though before the game shut down.
Gosh I miss this game
It’s back >:) kind of
Just listening to the backstory of LU brings back so much joy that I can't express in words. If you told me when I was 9 that LU was going to shut down 2 years later I would of laughed. But to see it go did make me very upset. And about 2 months after LU closed I went on a search for anything close to LU but couldn't find anything. flash forward to 2017 I got a random thought of LU and started to search again, and hope was sparked with the finding of DLU. Just seeing one group remaking a game that brought me so much happiness had me jumping up and down in my room (Yea I know i started fangirling). But enough of me ranting. Here to 10 years of LU and to the future of DLU!
That was a lovely homage to a great universe and the amazing group of developers I had the privilege to share so many years with! Thanks Jake for all the effort and time you put into making this and pulling together so many bits and pieces. It's nice to know that even though LU isn't around anymore that it lives on in the hearts and minds of fans like you. :) - Ryan "SamPenguin" Seabury
Still the most fun I ever had working on a game. So much potential, we just couldn’t quite make it work in the end. I still want to play it from time to time and get frustrated that I can’t.
Seeing all of the posts from developers of LEGO Universe here, I should take the opportunity to say, though no doubt you have heard it before: thank you all so much for creating something that was such a profound positive influence on me and no doubt so many others, both as the child I was and as I am now. I doubt that I would be as optimistic and outward-looking today without my belief in the power of creativity and collaboration that your work engendered - certainly not as happy. The fact that so many people have strived and are striving to restore it (some ill-fatedly, some thankfully not) is testament to its impact and the certainty of its impact on others to come, and, once more, I thank you as sincerely and fully as I possibly can for that.
Really appreciate you for your role in the conception of this game Ryan! Please check out the Lego Universe community discord server discord.gg/9PACdjcEQR. I know it's been 10 years, but anyone that has experience- especially someone involved in the original creation of LU- would be of upmost aid in the rate, efficiency, and thorough completion of the reviving of the game. Right now, Darkflame Universe is in preparation for closed beta, and has made a lot of progress. Thanks for your consideration!
I freaking loved Lego Universe as a kid. I don't remember much from it just the feeling of utter joy running and jumping around, fighting monsters and trying to become a ninja. I remember becoming the ice ninja and ninjutsu-ing around.
I remember the day when it was announced that it would close and the utter despair I felt when I saw the launch screen being unavailable.
I never got to experience the entirety of LU as I was so fixated on what I was interested in. But I really wished I had 'cause it was such a good game.
2009-2010 is when Lego's creativity peaked. We had some amazing stuff back in the day - Star Wars TCS, Batman, Power Miners, Space Police, LU, Clutch Powers movie, The Lego Club Show, Atlantis, Ninjago, and the end of Bionicle/Hero Factory.
Nowadays it seems Lego has become focused solely on licensed brands - which is perfectly fine - I just feel like the era of original themes is long gone. I'm just glad I was around to see it!
Looking back at 2010-2011 when I first really got into LEGO, I now realize that era was a bit of a golden age... particularly for LEGO.com. It was during a period when LEGO kept nearly all of their old sites active, so there was nearly an entire decade of content to check out from LEGO themes both old and new. There was a plethora of fun games to play (anyone remember Junkbot?), and of course, LU was a thing. The LEGO Message Boards, My LEGO Network, and the LU Creation Lab were all online. LEGO Club was at its peak... remember when they included a LEGO shorts compilation DVD with one of the 2011 magazine issues? Bionicle had just ended, but there was plenty of fun to be had in catching up on the story via the BionicleStory.com site, and it had not one, but two successors: Hero Factory and Ninjago. HF was about to enter its best year (Breakout), and Ninjago would soon become essentially the Bionicle of the 2010s. As you mentioned, there were still quite a few original themes coming and going back then.
I think perhaps it all culminated with the release of The LEGO Movie in 2014. That was probably the peak moment of modern LEGO. Around this time, LEGO began shutting down the old parts of LEGO.com more quickly, and in-house LEGO themes became noticeably rarer. And now, almost every defining part of 2010s LEGO is gone. The era of smaller in-house themes is gone. The only story-based original themes left are Hidden Side, Monkie Kid, and Ninjago. The first is the closest thing to a small original theme in the modern era, and it's about to end. The second is the current "big bang" theme, which will either become the next Ninjago (unlikely) or else end after 3 years and be replaced by another "big bang" theme. The third is Ninjago: arguably the last remnant of early 2010s LEGO still going.
And yeah, the licensed themes do produce tons of great sets, and the remaining in-house themes (both story-based and not) are always cranking out fantastic sets as well. Modern LEGO set design has been refined to perfection these days. There's plenty of things to like about the current era of LEGO. But it feels like some of the magic of the early 2010s was lost somewhere along the way. And really, that's what that period was for LEGO: magical. There was an incredible concentration of cool stuff that happened all around the same time. It could be years until we see an era like that again. You said it very well: "I'm just glad I was around to see it!"
@@zebulan1485 Wholeheartedly agree with you brother. You just gave me a huge wave of nostalgia by mentioning Junkbot lmao
I'm pretty sure I still own that DVD from the magazine too
But as for the magic, I don't think we'll ever get something like it again. Hidden Side, the first original theme in years, had an admittedly short run, and I don't think Lego will ever return to a Bionicle-like series after what happened with the 2015 reboot.
Which is all a shame, of course, but on the same hand Lego is all about creativity and experimenting with new things ...so I'm hopeful to see what the future holds.
This game will always be with me. Does anyone remember the giant gorilla in the middle of the Gnarled Forest I think it was?
Omg yess haha! The monkey prisoners and bananas too!
Yeah I remember having to hope someone beat it.
Even playing on a DLU server I have to get help to get past there.
In my youth, this was the first MMo I ever played which became so memorable to me since I was a part of the beta tests before the game was released. I would always remember looking on LU's website to see when they would be up even if it was at weird times! Even after the initial release, I still played it and it was awesome when the Nexus Tower was being built through brick donations which really made it feel like a community effort! This game wasn't like the rest of the other Lego games back in the day or even the ones now to where it allows you to use creativity as a form of expression and even combat! It really broke my heart to hear it close and makes me wish that I was present the last day to say goodbye to everyone I knew from LU :( Regardless, thank you NetDevil and devs for creating such a beautiful game and Happy 10th! Hopefully, I can play this game again with my friends through Darkflame!
Hell yeah dude that game was so nostalgic to Me tho I didn't get very far the pure stuff I used to mess about with and community got me logging in a lot ashame to se it go but hopefully the boiz at darkflame get into closed beta soon and it becomes available again.
When the game shut down it was like the best and worst thing ever.
It was just a giant party, but when you got that notification telling you the game was shut down, that was the most depressing thing ever.
Wow, that was great. And made me quite sad because I loved my time working on LU! Thanks for sharing!
Hey, might be happy to know people at Darkflame are working on a fan made Lego Universe emulator. Keeping it alive, even if it's not finished yet.
Thank you for contributing to a lot of people’s childhoods
Well, then you contributed to the existence of my favorite game of all time. Maybe you could bring your experience to the community where the game is being brought back to life- it would only aid in the revival. Thanks for your consideration!
I remember this game. Standing in line for hours in a huge line of other players in some snowy mountain area waiting for access to a boss fight
This was a blast from the past. I truly enjoyed working on this game and more importantly the team I was on and all the great talent. Riding scooters or mini motorcycles to the lunch room will always be a favorite memory of mine too :)
Really appreciate you for your role in the creation of this game Toby! Please check out the Lego Universe community discord server discord.gg/9PACdjcEQR. I'm not crying, I've just got something in my eye
Judging by your profile pic, you have good tastes in web-shows.
This video meant a lot to me. It’s comforting to hear that so many people loved this game as much as I did. Although I’ll never be able to return to Lego universe, I’ll always remember the days of my best friend coming over as we’d explore the worlds of other players, constantly being inspired by the creativity of the developers and the player base.
Stephen Calender here, looks like I am late to the party but thrilled none the less that someone found my blog, and was a fan of something I worked on. To the other former Net Devil employees, miss you bunches.
As someone who was around during the launch of Lego Universe, this video was a bit of a nostalgia trip for me.
It always sad to see such good things come to such a underwhelming conclusion though.
Thanks for the work here,
Good stuff as usual
Look up Darkflame Universe on Twitter. Might be an even bigger nostalgia trip for ya :)
One cannot put into words how this game helped kids. For me, LU was the spark of my childhood that is a key factor to why I want to major in mechanical engineering. This game is truly beautiful, and as an introverted child, this universe was the world to me. Thank you Lego Universe and to everyone behind the game that brought joy to my childhood. I hope I can experience you again.
this made me almost cry. i can remember how i was about 10 when my mom bought me the game for christmas. LU will always be in my heart
when you mentioned lego digital designer it brought tears to me eyes. It reminded me of the times I spent on my dads old computer playing on the site. thank you for bringing these amazing memories back
This brought back so many memories. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into this. It's a wonderful video and reflects the heart we put into the game.
I'm super fortunate to have parents that bought me the game when it came out. $60 was quite a bit back then for them, plus all of the months that they paid for. I got it for Christmas, and I consider it my absolute favorite childhood game. I've still got the disc case on display on a shelf in my room. Because of this game, I literally just walked up to some random guy I barely knew at church and straight up asked if he played Lego Universe; that guy is now still my friend 10+ years later, along with some other friends he introduced to me. This is also the only game where I literally did 2 to 3 all-nighters just playing it in secret. My mother ended up taking me to the doctor because she had no idea why I was so tired during the day, but she pretty quickly figured it out after that. No regrets, lol.
If any of the people who worked on the game read this, I thank you for having a passion for this game. Reading through the comments you all left on this video, it really seems like you all lost just as much, if not more, as the passionate players like me.
Amazing video. LU has a huge place in my heart and childhood and at times I still listen to its music. It was great to go through the (somewhat tragic) history of the game again through this video. Thank you for making this
I haven't even watched it yet, but I already know I am gonna love this video. I've been waiting for a video like this for a while. Happy 10th, LEGO Universe.
Love seeing Lego Universe get the attention it deserves!
I don't know what it is, but something inside me is missing since the very day i heard about the LEGO Universe closure.
There is something about this game that seems way too big and large for it just to fade into nothingness.
Maybe it was the soundtrack, which never ceased to amaze me everytime i jumped from one world to another and dragged me further into the immersion of this universe.
Maybe it was the originality in every aspect of this game, be it the cleverly constructed story or the genuise and memorable character designs.
Or maybe was it the spirit of all creative people who put their heart and soul into the making of this masterpiece of art. You can literally FEEL all the thoughts and choices that were made to perfect every detail in this world. The combination of all the creativity from every person who worked on this, from the childs to grown adults, all of them made an inpact in thousands of peoples lives with the creation of this.
I want to thank every member of the LEGO Universe Team, for shaping and inspiring thousands of lives across the globe.
Many of us are still touched to this very day by the whole experience, we were allowed to witness with this masterpiece.
Thanks you.
i cried so much when i found out the game was closing. i think i was only 7 or 8 years old at the time. wasnt pay to win but i still loved it dearly. the immersion and wonder i had while exploring the different areas could compare to nothing else. thanks for this video
Great to see the progress of DLU! I tested it not all that long ago. Crazy gow much LU shaped my mind now and absolutely engraved so many parts of who I am. This game is an absolute treasure to me. On the bright side, anyone else remember the large poster you could get in the lego club magazine before the game’s release? I still have it in perfect condition... Not once has it been put up and I plan to frame it and hang it soon. Let’s go, bring this game to life!
Thank you for the fantastic video, I needed this so much. So greatly appreciated, amazing job!
I hope someday this game will come back as it was, with the same story. I loved playing it, and I want to explore it again.
I have NEVER played this game in my life, sadly. But I have wanted to play it quite a bit.
My earliest memory of any game is Lego Universe, I visually remember buying it at the local store, I took it from the shelve and showed it to my dad, I have the cd to this day.
This game shaped my childhood, and to every single developer reading this,
Thank you! Thank you so much for this awesome game.
This is by far one of the best videos I've ever seen about my all time favorite game Lego Universe.
It's incredibly well made, nice gameplay and real life scenes. It's a shame that this video doesn't have much more popularity.
Thanks a lot for this awesome video, keep it up!
I remember playing it when it first came out when I was a kid, and then when it was abruptly cancelled, I was sad for like a week. I hope it comes back!
Lego Universe was our Ready Player One...
I'm so happy that people are bringing it back to life.
Miss this game. I couldn't be there for when the game shut down because I had to go to sleep before then. I would really love to play this game someday once again
This game is pretty much the sole reason why I picked up programming as a hobby in elementary school. I wanted to learn how such a super complex game was created. Now, ten years later, I am studying computer science and most of my questions have been answered. Thank you for everything, NetDevil team!
Great video! I was along for the whole ride of Lego Universe as a 12-14 year old and loved getting a look at the behind the scenes story. Thanks!
That brings back some memories! Unfortunately I only got to get involved with the LUP stuff very late in the process. There was a lot of talent and hard work put into this game. It is a shame it couldn't overcome the hurdles.
Don't mind me, just having a hit of nostalgia.
Back in 2010 I couldn't even speak english properly. I consider this to be a big feat of mine to be able to register for a beta test program and make friends with a random dude with who we completed the game together. First time i actually used english to talk to a person BTW. But when I tried to ask him where he lives, the game gave me a warning that this is not allowed. Censorship system was really well-made lol.
The game was my first MMO experience. The sheer scale of it couldn't fit in my brain. I just couldn't believe it all was real players.
Universe had fenomenal lego graphics for it's time. Way beyond SW/Batman/Indiana Jones (still much love for TT games).
In a short period of beta testing I played hell out of Lego Universe. The vibe that they managed to crete was incredible. Also i loved the UI of the game lol. I was surprised to hear that it was a big problem.
Today I work as a programmer on a rather popular MMO game project. And I even more impressed by the scale that the LU team was able to put in the game in just five years of development. I bet they crunched like hell in last year or so. Fenomenal product.
It was crazy expensive to me so after beta i hadn't played. I couldn't imagine explaining to my mom why I should pay 40$ for the game. Back then I played only pirated games and never had original Lego sets. I only had Chinese copies of 90's sets.
I may assume that poor monetization system was the reason of game's deceit. It was expensive at the start which stopped a lot of new players from playing and made them forget the name of the game. A game that costs more than WOW does and has no regional price policy. Maybe it didn't meet Lego's financial plans so they decided to close it (you can see that Lego isn't really afraid of shutting down anything from sets to games). Not to blame the developer because back then gamedev industry was weird and insanely profitable monetization models like cosmetiscs-based-F2P weren't found.
Great vid!
Lego universe shut down when I was 10 and I’m still not okay.
LU was way ahead of its time. Its core was kinda what minecraft became, but it was also so much more - part rpg, part racing game, part ARG, part digital building tool, it has so much going on. The world also really inspired me, to the point where I ripped off lego Heroica's ruleset and created an extensive boardgames based off the mmo's lore.
i didn't play this game for more than a week because the only reason i found out about it was because kids on the playground were talking about how it was getting shut down. but even 10 years later its stuck with me for some reason. great video
I never played the game. but I would always look at the trailers and gameplay online, thinking about the endless possibilities of making something with digital legos. It was ahead of its time, and I wish it stayed a little longer.
Despite the fact that i just played it in a free to play mode for around months shows how much this game was catchy, even not exploring it's full potential i still hope for the day when i'll be joining other players in the darkflame server to finally explore and have fun
Fear not, there's tons of people out there working hard to bring it back to life!
holy **** i just dreamed about this game re-releasing and i google it and there is still a community of people who remember it, can't believe its been 10 years
Random fact: the fake scientist in the Geocaching portion of the video named John Deutschendorf could possibly be a reference to John Denver’s real name
Damn man, what a nostalgic trip.
Thank you for explaining the full story, so for the rest of my life i now know what happened to this unfortunate situation.
You know, it really is a sad story for those developers... Could you imagine 5000 hours put in as a individual gone. Deleted. Because the corporations above ur company wasnt able to commit.
Like how u finished the video, it doesn’t have to be looked at as a bad thing.
Minecraft came at the perfect time tho, and that was the replacement for me and tbh, it was a great replacement. That game morphed my childhood. The minecraft community was great as a kid.
Anyways man, thank you very much for spending all the time researching, scripting, and editing this video to inform the old users of this game.
Lego is a very nostalgic thing to myself... and many others.
Lego universe was the game I always bought monthly cards for and always stayed up to play, it always hits me in the feels remembering it
I vaguely remember Lego Universe. It was around at a time where video games weren’t something I was able to access (cuz I was like 8 probably) but I remember just terribly wanting to play it. I think there was a section dedicated to it in a Lego group magazine and I poured over that section so often. The concept for that game just seemed so cool. Being able to travel to all these different areas.
Sadly, I never got to play it. Maybe one day, much like Toontown, someone will have the chance at reviving a fan version of it.
My grandfather bought me a subscription for Lego Universe when I was 10 years old. That’s was 12 years ago. I’m 22 now. RIP Granddad. Love you ❤️
Amazing breakdown of it all, well done! Thanks for putting this together, a very enjoyable trip down memory lane.
Darkflame universe is a project hoping to revive parts of the game! Loved this game
Not long until we can finally enjoy this game again
Shoutout to darkflame universe
Anyone here waiting for the release of darkflame after their announcement?
playing this game during my summer of being an 8 to 9 year old was the best experience in my life. It got me into online gaming like Roblox and AQW. This was the starting flame for my love of video games
No joke I’m sitting on a draft of a video about AQW. Spent most of may childhood dancing between that, LU, and RuneScape.
@@Subpixel AQW has been my safe haven, I still play AQW and AQ3D from time to time
I remember this game when I was barely 8-10. one of my very first, if not, my first online game. I remember crying my eyes out when I remember trying to log in and seeing the announcement that the game had shut down. Great childhood memories. thank you. :)
I remember there was this bug that let you clip through a mountain and fall under the map on the Ninjago island.
Some dude told me that you could fight Garmadon under the map, and me being a child believed it. That's how I ended up looking under the map for hours. Good times.
I played this game like crazy, then I stopped playing it for like 2ish weeks and when I came back and saw it was no longer supported I cried.
I just wish they put this game out there to play as a single player game and maybe changed some aspects to support that. That way they wouldnt be losing money hosting dead/dying servers
I absolutely loved this game, I got it as a present I think when they were selling it through the game discs and I still have the manual somewhere. I hope it comes back somehow. I wish I played it more
Lego Universe was so much fun. That game is one of the few that truly deserves the title “ahead of its time”
Still missing this game.
Thank you so much for making this video.
Personally I think a major issue with LU was that there were no tie-in physical products to bring in new players as well as support the costs of running the game
Fond memories of my time as a LUP. Too bad the game didn't work out, many mistakes were made, some the LUP's warned about but oh well. Good times.
Thank you for all of your work. I appreciate it so much.
When this game was announced; I was thrilled. This would be a game I could this game with my nephew; who was only 9 when it was announced. We both got into the beta; which ran for 9 months, and then we had to wait a few weeks before launch.
Although my nephew jumped off kind of early, I played until its end. I made a few friends during my time, some adults with kids, like me. I was there when the game went down. I cried for a good 10 minutes, and maybe longer. I truly enjoyed this game, and I miss it very much.
I remember I was in either 4th or 5rh grade when I head Lego Universe was shutting down... I played it all night and remember getting my best gear and whatnot on before going to bed, knowing that if I ever where able to play it again... I would be at my best to do so... Miss this game
I grew up on this game as a kid, I remember crying so much for literal days when it shut down…
one of my favorite games of all time, it was a joy to play, even though I was too young when I played it to understand anything, it was fun
Happy Tenth to a game that I can't wait to get back to. See you soon, LU. #venturegang
And now Darkflame is planning to release the game with private server capabilities soon!
A great video about one of my favorite childhood games. My dad and I followed those GPS drops so closely! We never ended up finding one haha. I remember being so anxious for the game to finally release. And then devastated when I heard it would close. I was too upset to log on for the final day *crying face*. Thanks for the time and care putting the history together all in one place!
Shortly before I found this video, I realized it was the 10th anniversary and decided it was time to do something a little extreme. On Oct 27th I uninstalled the game. Time to let go :)
Thank you Jake for this thoughtful and thorough tribute and for a bittersweet stroll down memory lane.
Thank you LEGO and NetDevil for the unforgettable experiences; LUP events, CES, E3, Comic-Con and more, and for the game!
Thank you to the community of players... I miss the hilarious, fanatical, brilliantly creative and generous lot of you daily.
Bye for now
HappyPappy
Well, you might be reinstalling it in about 5 years time. :P www.darkflameuniverse.org/community/6-announcements/701-redacted-unveiled
i miss this game... so many memories..
thank you for making this video...
truly
I watched my brother play this on my families computer, great memories
This is probably the one best retrospective on LEGO Universe out there to date. Fantastic production, congratulations!
I used to play this game too much and experienced its shutdown back then after playing it almost since Release. One of the only games which really hooked me.
man the nostalgia from watching this :( I miss this game so much
Lego Universe is my favorite game of all time, I still think about it a lot.
God I remember that, I never had the chance to play it when I was younger but it still has a place in my heart
Bro when I was a kid I loved this game. I didn't pay but it was enough for me. I don't remember that clearly but using a sword felt badass and so fun. At the time, I didn't really understand why it got shut down. It felt like when my favourite programme that was always on when I arrived home from school was randomly missing and never came back.
I loved this game, strongly believe that a reboot of LEGO Universe would be huge nowadays
The core of LU was so far ahead of its time. It had MMO systems in it, that only a few have today. Base building block by block, racing, fighting, Co-op, story, different worlds with different thematics... it had something for everybody. In my eyes it was a masterpiece, I am so sad that I joined it in the last months before the servers shut down. I was not ok on that day lol
Lego universe needed to *play well*
Oohh I see what you did there
_LEGO Universe_ getting shut down still makes me cry. At the time, it was my favorite game since _MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries,_ which isn’t easy to achieve.
Lego universe is one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. I really hope darkflame universe continues to go strong, and that Lego will not take it down if it gets completed
This is making me emotional great video man
Great video. Seriously miss this game… crazy seeing usernames I remember sharing many adventures with in this video. Brings me back
27:58 I remember signing that!
Tons of devs commenting so I hope you guys see this: Thank you for this awesome introduction to escapism. This game was the best!
This was super interesting to learn the whole story of one of my favorite games of a kid. Although because I was broke and I only had my family computer my frame rate was terrible and I couldn’t play much lol
Thank you for putting this together. I loved this game and was too young to understand why it was shutting down. I’m glad to have this video to reference too. :)
Played a little bit of this as a kid when it was new.
I miss this bloody game so freaking much dude...
So glad that Lego worked with Darkflame to bring Lego Universe back!
Awesome retrospective video bro. I remember Lego universe and I’m really happy some people re made it and brought it back. I can play it again and I’m really happy!
a flourish of memories I didn’t know I had
