As a general mason who does brick pavers, stone, and tile, I have learned that especially with tile jobs, continuing education is crucial. I'm an expert but still learn something new every day. I especially liked your strategy of setting the mosaic tile on the Kerdi sheet, brilliant! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
as someone that has done this kind of work since I was kid for 21 years, It's refreshing to see someone actually do tile correctly, and also learn some tricks from.
I won’t be remodeling my bathroom myself but the education you provided me is priceless as I do want to hire someone to redo my mom’s bathroom. Now I know what to look for and what to ask. Thank you so much. You have a new subscriber!!!
As part of our remodeling jobs I am now taking on the tile setting myself. I really enjoy it and being allowed to get creative is a bonus. Your tips and tricks are definitely making a difference in my work! Thanks for all you do!
Really really helpful video, thank you! I am a very experienced DIYer who has two bathrooms to remodel. At my last house I did two bathrooms with large format tile, niches and mosaic accents and ran into several of the issues these tips address. After watching this I am reinspired to go for it and will, no doubt, get better results. Thanks again!!
Laticrete platinum is also a great thinset product. Great advice it took me so long to figure this stuff out on my own like 5 years ago this would have been a gold mine for me. Mosaic is the shit if you are prepared to install it
Thank you! To this point in a master bath / laundry gut & redo in a 1969 double wide with at least two earlier remodels/problem-solution issues. Not trained professionally but been there done that several times. Good content. Stay safe.
Got my subscription thank you great idea on the paint installing a toilet and was wondering how I get the whole perfect on the new board caulking spray again another great idea but feeling the vet have all the way up that's genius
Wow great tips! I've been doing remodeling for a long time and wish I knew a few of these tricks years ago. I've remodeled a few bathrooms over the years but pretty much exclusively do doors now but I have a bathroom renovation coming up and will definitely be using some of these tips. Someone explained the benefits of using floor leveler a while back but never thought to put in into the shower pan area and the windex trick looks interesting usually I just tape it off with painters tape along the tub. Thanks again
Great tips & tricks-especially the idea of presetting tile on a Kerdi band or a piece of board for inside a niche. I also like the spraying water tip before smoothing the caulk. Thanks!
Hi, I'm going to remodel my shower to a zero barrier style, I'm planning on using a pre-fab base 72x48, drain at shallow end, when I'm watching shower remodeling, no one rehabs the cieling, if the walls were compromised with mold- moisture, wouldn't the cieling need to be changed out? Thanks for your input
Great advice. I cannot stress the leveling part enough when putting in pre-formed pans like tile redi. My contractor did not use leveler, just ground the concrete even, though I told him to do so. This has resulted in weak drainage since the slope is not that good in one half of the pan. Hard to fix this later.
what are your thoughts on the guys who use window weather striping to tape the tub or shower base behind the tile as the first waterproof step? Windows do see constant direct water.
I just bought a house that had a massive jet tub i tore that out and am wanting to make a huge walkin ive done a simple shower remodel before but never a full one and i want to do 2 showerheads and a rainfall where can i find a diagram for how to run the pipe?
Awesome tips. I've been flipping for many years and still learned several things f4om you. Can you address how to reset or remodel a basem3nt concrete floor and make a walk in to a steam shower? I may have to move the main drain...ugh!
What kind of floating vanities are you using or rather which company/brand has provided quality products based on your experience? For some reason a vanity with no legs costs way more than a vanity with legs???
I noticed on other videos that plastic was placed underneath mortar mix to prevent the wood leeching out moisture but the leveling concrete doesn't appear to have that. Just curious why that is as I'm preparing to update our bathroom soon.
@ good to know, is there a mapei product that comes close? I can get mapei thinset a lot easier. On the other end of the spectrum is the cheapest thinset from Home Depot that feels like it has coarse sand in it. Guess you get what you pay for.
Does floor leveler just automatically level your floor? Actually, I'm more interested in whether it automatically levels your shower pan. Isn't the shower pan supposed to have a slight tilt for drainage? Thank you.
Nice tips. Beginners should be grateful to you for that. One tip for you though, the word caulk has a silent 'L'. Big pet peeve on your pronunciation. Especially from a professional who uses the product, often. Make believe the word is spelled 'cauk' as far as saying it out loud.

That paint trick is superb. And pre-fabbing your accent strips.

Found this channel a few days ago... quickly has become one of my favorites.
Setting decorative tile on kerdi is a great idea! I'd never seen that trick.
How is tile sloped on the floor using the leveler?

Hire someone with a tried and true reputation. Don’t just go by what they tell you.
@ Do I ask for references? And in this day and age, I am finding that recommendations are coming from known individuals; like family.

How you added the blocking in with those backer boards what my new learned thing! I've always been just toe nailing things in.

Beautiful Job!
Thanks for sharing ways to do excellent work and thus money making by making customers happy
I’ve always gone for Ardex x77w it’s really good. I like the paint trick, so obvious but never thought of it I always measure :).
I always find great tips and advice here thanks!

You are 100% right! No matter how small the difference is, it matters.
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher I have learned tons from your videos, thank you and GOD BLESS
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher have you ever successfully used go board on bathroom floors instead of hardiboard?
Great vid!
Great video! I subbed.. I am looking to take my renovations biz to the next level and believe you're gonna help me get there!
Bravo! Thank you!
Where do you get your floating vanities at? Im looking for a solid wood/plywood one thats pre-built. Custom is pretty expensive.
My clients like Lowes or even wayfair. But floating is pretty rare in the US, you may have to order from overseas.
Are you not worried about sloping toward the drain using a floor leveler in the shower? Or is it not necessary anymore?
What about the slope for the drain??
What is the brand of the caulk spray you used? Also whwt is the tool you used to vibrate the setting of the shower tub? Great video and tips
What vertical level bar that you put your level on do you use? One that lets you go ground level to ceiling.
Wow good job 👏 👍 😊
Brilliant tips cheers mate
what are your thoughts on the guys who use window weather striping to tape the tub or shower base behind the tile as the first waterproof step? Windows do see constant direct water.
Do you use the ardex x3 or x5 for your wall tile, thanks.

I caulk a perfect bead during application. Cut my tip at an angle and run a line, done. Minimum touch up.

I have a full playlist on a basement bathroom build 👍
Would there be a good reason to add the fiberglass strands to self leveling mix as with concrete? Is it done?
I’ve never heard of doing that. Most levelers can only be poured up to 1 1/4” so it does have limitations
The floor being level doesn't seem like it would help much with sending water down the drain?
Was thinking the same thing
What kind of floating vanities are you using or rather which company/brand has provided quality products based on your experience? For some reason a vanity with no legs costs way more than a vanity with legs???
Do you not use the Floor leveler primer on wood substrate? Or do you use it on concrete only?
Primer on either, and yes both substrate. 👍
What are the tools you use to remove the excess caulk?
I noticed on other videos that plastic was placed underneath mortar mix to prevent the wood leeching out moisture but the leveling concrete doesn't appear to have that. Just curious why that is as I'm preparing to update our bathroom soon.
Priming is needed for floor leveler. And leveler must be over top of substrate (needs to bond)
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Thanks for the quick reply. I've learned a ton from your videos and hope to begin applying them soon!
whats the spray he used at the end?
Steve; you spend a lot of time on Bathrooms - it's great, there's a niche for Kitchen's also.... and I know you'd be bloody good at it.
Feels like I’d need another lifetime for that 😆 takes a lot of mistakes to learn the tricks 👍
Would vibrating the floor leveler work also?
For sure 👍
Where do you get the ardex x5? Don’t really see that around.
The tile shop is the biggest chain that carries it 👍

I see you don't discriminate when it comes to the power tools and just use all the brands 😆
Doesnt thinset equalize the uneveness?
No
Thank you for saying caulk properly.
Oh yeah, and for sharing your experience 😊
Heated flooring? Why? Asking from Florida.
No metal lath with the self level?
What's the tool you have @ 8:07?
Sean Penn doing tiles now

All these tips and tricks give me the false confidence that I can go out and not mess this up on my own! Lol I'm 100% hiring a pro.
😎⚒️😎⚒️😎
You used floor leveler but then used what looks like 4" of mud under shower pan
Trick is cheat, not quality. I could not do lots of works at a short time, but I could do better work.
Shower pan shouldn't even be level supposed to slope to the drain or water will sit and stagnate
Don’t you want a slight pitch on the shower floor so water runs down the drain?
you dont want level! You do want slope toward drain.
