You know, you watch the whole series and you can't help but get a little peeved at Jane when he risks everything that Lisbon has worked for to catch one bad guy, but then you realize that Lisbon would most likely give up her entire career willingly to put a murderer behind bars, cause that's how she is. So, the actions of Jane aren't really that bad when put next to the cause and effect of his actions. Cause, Jane does some stupid scheme to catch a killer; effect, Jane and Lisbon actually do catch the killer. But whenever I watch this scene I just keep thinking to myself that Jane really doesn't deserve Lisbon. Don't get me wrong, they're an amazing duo for both their friendship, partnership and their eventual relationship, but wow it's really hard to look over this. I know Jane just did it for Lisbon to protect her which I understand, but sometimes the thoughts and feelings of Lisbon aren't taken into consideration and it's a bit sad to watch. This scene just reminds me that Lisbon really did have every right to walk away from Jane and her life with him, especially when he did stuff like this. Like remember when Jane ran away to Venezuela for 2 whole years, without contact except letters. And when he came back he basically forced the FBI to drag her back into his life. Lisbon really did have every right to walk away from him forever after being left alone for 2 years by him, but he really forced her back into his life without thinking of her feelings first and it's sad. Its like Jane has these grand ideas of the world and his plans, which always involve Lisbon, but somehow he excludes her from anything that he deams necessary. It's hard to not see how toxic of a relationship that can be. And it's honestly very sad. Lisbon deserved a chance to let her feelings be felt but they really weren't. That's why I sorta loved the relationship between Pike and Lisbon. She was starting to show Jane that she didn't need him as much as he needed her. I'm a Jisbon shipper so I wasn't exactly rooting for them so to speak, but it gave Lisbon the chance to show Jane that she is her own person who is fully capable of making her own decisions. That's why the plane scene was really extra impactful for me. Jane had no real control over the situation like he usually does in basically every episode of the mentalist ever. Lisbon did. She was the one in total power over her decisions and the feelings of not only herself but also Jane. It really was a good representation of the switch they made in season 7 where Jane really didn't have much control over Lisbon's life anymore... until he leaves her to travel on the road for a bit. And then Jane was in total control again, which was honestly hard to watch since I thought they were finally at a good equal level for once, but then Jane leaves yet again and when he comes back yet again he expects Lisbon to welcome him back with open arms. Lisbon had every right to walk away from him and the life they were slowly building together for another guy or just no one at all. Hell, she had the right to transfer to the FBI DC office if she wanted to without ever telling Jane and having him suddenly show up to work one day with a new person on the team who wasn't Lisbon. It's really the only down point of their relationship together I have to say. Maybe also the fact that Jane is an awful communicator but he's always been like that and Lisbon is kind of bad at it too- not half as bad as Jane, but they both need each other in order to even attempt to communicate. All in all, this scene is sad and brings up the issue in my head.
I think the show did a pretty good job of laying the groundwork for understanding Jane's decisions even when they were deeply inconsiderate. Jane was always a nomad growing up; Angela gave him his first real home and Red John didn't just destroy it, he kept Jane's trauma an open wound up until Jane killed him. Him leaving in season seven may not have been given as much writing focus as it should have, and it was selfish, but it was the last panicked relapse of a genuinely traumatized person. When he came back Lisbon expressed herself and her needs calmly and Jane took down his last wall to thank her for it and honor her fidelity. It's difficult to watch their power dynamic before it equalizes, but Lisbon was always powerful in her own way. She is the honored Penelope; the woman who conquered absence with faith.

That’s exactly how I feel, I just wish she would express her feelings more often to him, how she felt about these stunts or situations that he put her in. Even though in season seven he already knew she loved him, that she gave up a stable life she could’ve lived just for him, he still went away and didn’t answer any of her phone calls. And honestly it just pisses me off that the writers didn’t make her a little firmer about those situations, she always was like a little puppy going after jane, it doesn’t sound very cohesive for such a strong woman and leader like her.

Yeah I agree, but I don't think he felt same way about her as she did for him,she was actually showing that she has feelings for him from season 3 or 4 unlike him,in him I saw respect he has for her,he doesn't want anything bad to happened to her because of him but at this point she was nothing more then convenience for him to get to RJ and he appreciated she was there a long that journey, and yess you could see she was disappointed and she did maybe expect more witch makes me sad for her and mad at him

I think it is completely unfair to assume Lisbon has been anticipating anything more than what Jane actually said. The situation/the scene was strongly meaningful at its own merit, and did not require further speculations about what he "should've" actually said, or what Lisbon would've wished he would say. They are about to finally get their hands on that monster and fulfill this long-awaited mission where emotions that are conquering the atmosphere are all about a shared journey in which they both nurtured that faith aiming at this one target. Why does everything has to do with love (and Lisbon being the one always dying to see a gesture)!!!. This moment speaks tones of emotions and 'love' is only a tiny fraction of it.
In one of his letters to her from the two years he was away, Jane apologized for leaving her on the beach, but when you think about it this was literally THE ONLY WAY he could have saved her life that night, no other way... RJ would have had ofc zero problems in blowing up her too, since that's exactly what he did with Haffner and Stiles :(
Although this was really cruel to do, I sympathize with him I really think he was doing it to protect her. Also she kinda got him back by dating pike. I know she liked him but she kinda knew Jane had feeling for her and she must of seen how much it hurt him. It was kind of an equal exchange on both their parts in this season.

Also he was going to a dark place and didn't want her to see that. I'm sure she basically understood this without the need to explain. She felt he was just in to deep, was going to do something stupid on his own, and he needed her help. They love eachother but had to deal with RJ first the stakes were too high to be fully open about it. It seemed like a kind of open secret between them for the last season or two. Probably since Jane's 'fake breakdown'. I'm just really annoyed he disappeared for two years and then still didn't do anything about it when they met again. It was obvious from his letters too (I think that's why Abbot was so sure- he'd seen them!). I think he kind of chickened out as he was still finding his feet in his new life. Then she started to doubt him and was frustrated with the whole situation. When Pike came along she was starting to enjoy a proper grown-up relationship with someone more dependable. But after the initial attraction she came to realise no one could replace Jane. I like to think things would have happened between them soon anyway even without the Pike situation. As they settled into their 'new reality'. Anyway!.....basically this is a really beautiful scene. The sunset is so beautiful, the music, the acting/story......😍 Full of love and heartbreak at the same time.
Well saying that I do think she was confused by Jane (understandable really!!) And wasn't quite sure what to think whether he wanted things to go beyond friendship. It must have been hurtful after the two years then Jane seemingly more imature than ever hiding behind his tricks'. Finding himself suddenly in the real world without his quest for revenge (isn't there a saying 'vengence makes good company'!?) and having 'no idea how to act like a normal human being'. Understandable she felt she had to move on with Pike. But also understandable Jane struggling to find his feet and summon the courage to finally move on with his life. He left it too long- he should have just told her after killing RJ.... Even if he was kind of wanted for murder!🤔....Well it's not like it hasn't happened before and he stayed to face the music that time.
I think Patrick left her at the beach for multiple reasons. Since Season 1, Lisbon has said she would stop Jane from killing RJ. At first, she may have said this because she is an officer of the law and couldn't break the law. By Season 6, I think it was more because she wanted to prevent him from getting himself in trouble because she had grown attached to him. Even though she said she wouldn't stop him, earlier in the episode, he needed to make sure nothing was in the way of his vengeance. He knew that he may not be able to go through with it, if Lisbon were in danger. I believe he would choose to save Lisbon over killing Red John if that scenario presented itself, so he wanted to eliminate that possibility (he has previously stated that he would do anything for her and always come to her rescue no matter what, 2x19, 5x20). He also did not want her to be witness to whatever he was about to do. It would incriminate her and ruin her career. And also, knowing he may get killed in the process, he created a beautiful memory with Lisbon (watching the sunset) for them to hold in their minds. Remember he suffered psychologically from seeing the murdered bodies of his family and the guilt from his being part of the cause. His mind has been in limbo for 10 years, full of anger, self-loathing, and vengeance. After killing RJ (06x08), I don’t think Jane ran away. I think he left to heal himself. Going to jail did not scare him. Going through a trial was no issue for him. He's been in prison before and was ready to accept whatever fate came after. After he killed Timothy Carter (03x24), who he thought was RJ, he just sat down and waited to be arrested. Noticeably, he did not say "Good bye, Lisbon," but only said "I'll miss you." Writing letters to Lisbon was part of his healing process. Being in a stress-less environment helped him to work through his thoughts and emotions. If he was really running away, he wouldn’t have continued to use his real name or keep in touch with Lisbon. Meeting Fischer only reminded him of how much he missed Lisbon. That was the impetus of his agreeing to return. He had a whole list of demands, but the only demand he voiced was that Lisbon must be there. He had been gone for two years to heal, and leaving her at the beach was still the one thought he couldn't shake (it's on the letter he mails to her).
See some ppl mad at Jane and saying Lisbon deserved better. But I think this was the only option considering that Jane had sworn to kill RJ, and he knew Lisbon couldn't be there because of who she is. It was also the main thing that held Jane from getting together with Lisbon the whole time.
I just finished binge watching the show and when I watched this the first time I was so mad at Jane. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 because he saved her from potentially getting killed but this was such an A-hole move by him.
He meant what he said, this was a declaration of love, Jane wasn't open to a real love connection till he kills RJ and to feel safe again, he would never allow Lisbon to be in risk, he hold back so much from her for fear. He didn't leave her because she could stop him from killing but because RJ could hurt her. Ever after all this he was free from RJ but still afraid of losing the love of his life again.

We forgive him because we know he did it to save her, but man was it hard to watch. But blindsiding is exactly what she was able to do back to him once he let her in completely and told her he loved her: he didn't see a damn thing she gave him coming. ☺️

His mind has been in limbo for 10 years, full of anger, self-loathing, and vengeance. After killing RJ (06x08), I don’t think Jane ran away. I think he left to heal himself. Going to jail did not scare him. Going through a trial was no issue for him. He's been in prison before and was ready to accept whatever fate came after. After he killed Timothy Carter (03x24), who he thought was RJ, he just sat down and waited to be arrested. Noticeably, he did not say "Good bye, Lisbon," but only said "I'll miss you." Writing letters to Lisbon was part of his healing process. Being in a stress-less environment helped him to work through his thoughts and emotions. If he was really running away, he wouldn’t have continued to use his real name or keep in touch with Lisbon. Meeting Fischer only reminded him of how much he missed Lisbon. That was the impetus of his agreeing to return. He had a whole list of demands, but the only demand he voiced was that Lisbon must be there. He had been gone for two years to heal, and leaving her at the beach was still the one thought he couldn't shake (it's on the letter he mails to her).

See some ppl mad at Jane and saying Lisbon deserved better. But I think this was the only option considering that Jane had sworn to kill RJ, and he knew Lisbon couldn't be there because of who she is. It was also the main thing that held Jane from getting together with Lisbon the whole time.
I just finished binge watching the show and when I watched this the first time I was so mad at Jane. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 because he saved her from potentially getting killed but this was such an A-hole move by him.

He meant what he said, this was a declaration of love, Jane wasn't open to a real love connection till he kills RJ and to feel safe again, he would never allow Lisbon to be in risk, he hold back so much from her for fear. He didn't leave her because she could stop him from killing but because RJ could hurt her. Ever after all this he was free from RJ but still afraid of losing the love of his life again.

@@BadGuySwerve117 she didn't notice because she loves him and is terribly flustered and blinded when that love is used against her. We forgive him because we know he did it to save her, but man was it hard to watch.
But blindsiding is exactly what she was able to do back to him once he let her in completely and told her he loved her: he didn't see a damn thing she gave him coming. ☺️
