I've watched other people do this, and you're the best by far. You do a great job explaining what you would do and what you think they're doing, you're totally fair, and there isn't a bunch of filler or overreacting. A+. Subscribed.
In investigation 7, he was 100% scripting due to him zooming first to colombia, and then their script places the “near” guess using the script and they don’t realize it’s in argentina so they zoom out and realize.
Could very well be! Although the way I edited the video makes it look worse than it was on the first time I show the guess, there was another second in there where they zoom out of columbia and go down to argentina
Awesome job, and I really appreciate the editing on this! For instance the zooming in on the things you are talking about (4:476:35) 6:55 And I think you're the only youtuber I have ever seen who actually addresses the issue when your face-cam blocks our view 😂
Have to say that I agree every round except that Spain, I happen to live fairly close to La Línea and have been there many times and every person that's not blind reaching Gibraltar by land will see at least signs to La Línea de la Concepción. However, if you know the location then you know the location and you would instantly open the map and not spend 10+ seconds staying still or continue awkward moving (unless going for 5k, but the player didn't go)..
Geoguessr should record cursor movements to see where the players' pointers go when processing information. Same goes for tab activity, you can detect when someone tabs out from the game
I like how you surmise places could be somewhere that a player has 'heard of' rather than being from that country/near by. The amount of times I've 5k'd my home city in Canada is quite high
it's one of the most fun parts of the game when you get a location you know from real life experience! would be really unfortunate to get reported or banned on a round like that so I always try to consider the possibility!
Really liked this, you are much better at this than other pros I’ve seen make videos like this. Agreed with you on all your choices, although the Spain was kinda 50/50. Good stuff! Also learned some new tips like for Bangladesh 😂 I would love to know however why you changed your mind on that one during editing. I thought your initial reasoning was sound.
Glad you enjoyed & thanks for watching! Yeah the Spain one was tough! I changed my mind on the Oslo one because the guess ended up being directly where the player had moved to (near the roundabout to the west of the actual location) There are scripts that allow you to automatically guess the place that you have moved to (instead of the actual location of the round)... It's too much of a coincidence to guess right where they had moved to from so zoomed out!
That first cheater is sooo bad it’s hilarious! You can’t even cheat well bro. It’s 176km to Hoburgen and 1km to Faro Fyr, let’s search for Hoburgen! 🤦♂️😹
Well you gotta have the swedish letter å to google that so perhaps he just took the easier alternative. Getting 170 km from the mark at his rank is still very good. He is still a scumbag for cheating ofc!
4 is quite interesting actually. I did watch a few other videos of this one but never realized it was a 5k from that far away which is sus for sure. Replay definitely helps a lot because a 5k on that round is just never sus otherwise next to a big train station.
Just getting into geoguessr and found your video on my home page. Really enjoyed it, learned some stuff, and you explain everything really well!! 10.5/10 +1 subscriber
I definitely believe that! Although there's still a difference between knowing the 5K and being able to click exactly the right spot without zooming into the map at all
It’s not just high ranked players that can watch replays. Regular players can watch their match and see their opponents game. This is good for catching cheaters s as well, it should also cut down on the amount of false claims of cheating because you can review the game and know sure. Scripting is very easy to tell if they are doing it. And you can rewatch and see if someone has the opportunity to google. Remember, there has to be sufficient evidence. Let’s make GeoGuessr great. This is a truly welcomed feature
I mean, yeah, I understand that they hit exactly 5k considering that they moved a little, but the first mark wasnt even close to that, maybe it was really just 1 in 1mi luck case?
so there's a script that puts your marker down where you have moved to in the streetview. In this case, the player moved to the west down the road towards the roundabout from the starting location. When they guess (from a really high zoom level), their marker is right where they are, just east of the roundabout. It's simply too much of a coincidence to guess within a meter of where you are. If it had been a 5k and the guess had been in another direction from the location, that would be less suspicious, but it's right where they moved to
If you play Chatguessr on Twitch a lot of times, these rounds can be repeats,i once played Cg on twitch, stream ended,i went to play Geoguessr, amd got the exact location what was the last on cg
Wait, they only give one round of each game and not the full match? Because suspicion adds up. For example the Gibraltar one was sus but not evident, but if there was three more sus rounds, that would build reasonable evidence.
If two people do this at the same time, one can move the camera and one can google the signs. Or the script can just move the camera and they can google in the meantime. I don't understand how you can confidently catch any of them this way...
Makes sense that they would try to gather multiple viewpoints to decide on cheating. There's definitely many styles of play, so getting a range of opinions is great. And if the majority of them are like, "that one cheated!" then that's a pretty good indicator. Whereas if it's majority not guilty, then easy to let that player go. And for the inconclusive ones, the devs can do their thing to decide. But it definitely helps to have a bunch of people helping. 😄🥰🌺
how did you even report that Thailand guess? Thailand is pretty hard to region guess and most of the times you stick in and around Bangkok. I am thinking that player might had suspicious in other rounds but this round got reported
9:50 I might be an idiot, but from Thailand the only coverages are from Bangkok and Phuket,no?They are the 2 biggest cities,so i would say it's reasonable
I don't think you should necessarily rely on the player's rating range because there are a lot of smurfs and many people who practice before starting ranked :)
definitely, good point! I mostly use it in the other direction though, that higher rated players might make more guesses that look suspicious at first due to the obscurity of the clues. It's only ever used in combination with a lot of other factors!
@lmag9 and there are people like me that likes to watch lots of geoguessr videos but rarely end up playing myself but when I do I can at least get the country almost always.. and déjà vu moments that this location is a repeat for example from Jake Lyons' games.
Can't you see the reporting player's comment when reviewing? I reported a player for scripting and added a short description of what i thought made it obvious. But if the reviewing player cant see that comment I don't see the point why I should add it in future reports.

Interesting to see the vetting process. Seems like basically you have to be a very adept player to catch these
Some of the evidence can be subtle!
Interesting video, it made me remember Geoguesser existed but sadly i cant play it because it's paid and I'm poor and young.
Earned a sub tho :D
It's a real shame they don't have much of a free version anymore!
A free alternative I use is called geotastic !

Round 4 is EXTREMELY 5k-able for any Norwegian player. Even NMPZ

Yes great point! I should mention this in my next video so that more people know that they can review replays of their own games as well
Once you see Oslo and the train station I don't think zooming in and finding it would be impossible for an idiot like me, but that's not what we see
Yes definitely not the most challenging round ever, which makes it even more painful that they cheated (also also tricked me haha)

Yeah unfortunately it's only one round that they show... A lot of people have been asking to see more so hopefully they add that soon
geoguessr should also put the player’s level below the rating so people dont just base their assumption on what rating the person is
yeah good idea! or maybe # of games played.
If two people do this at the same time, one can move the camera and one can google the signs. Or the script can just move the camera and they can google in the meantime. I don't understand how you can confidently catch any of them this way...
