Expensive tool, but useful. As a home DIY’er I would never have enough projects to justify the expense. Getting one from the local hire shop has worked for me in the past.
I hear you, but if you get a quote from a builder to do a job that you feel you're capable of, and that quote is way above what you're willing to pay - let's say it's €1500 above the estimated cost of materials - then it can be justified. I'm about to get a skylight and lightwell on my landing and I'm going to get the nailgun.
I bought this same nailer last year to build a garden room. It saved so much time. It never once went wrong and I fired a few thousand nails. It was well worth the money!
Great to see your new tool review channel. Would really appreciate it, if you could review more hikoki tools in the future. Best wishes for the new year👍
In New Zealand they are Hikoki. I have the 18V framer nail gun, drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, jigsaw, belt sander, multi tool, palm router, planer & torch. Then 36V circular saw, grinder, chain saw & weed wacker. I also have the 240V table saw and that is very well constructed. Being formally Hitachi it's a great brand and I love the multi voltage battery system. As for the two circular saws I purchased the nail gun & 18V saw then a package deal with all the others came up, that had the 36V saw in it.
Purchased the very same machine last year to replace the ailing Hitachi gas/battery first fix nailer. Built a huge timber extension with it over the summer. Absolutely no misfires or jamming. The 5ah batteries give you a full shift without breaking sweat. But boy, oh boy, it's a beast to work overhead. My brother has the orange gas framing gun and, like the old Hitachi, it feels almost hollow in comparison.
Really good video. Subscribed to the new channel. Would love to see you test the Parkside range. I think their range is better than most of the more budget options.
I bought myself one this year mainly for making garden gates and exterior projects. I'm already invested in the Hikoki "system" and this seems to be far more convenient than a compressor and nailer. You can buy bags of ring shank nails (not all are galvanised or stainless) but using a hammer takes time. I've noticed recently that Hikoki (who own Metabo) are releasing a Metabo-branded cordless router, in the UK, that looks identical to their own Hikoki model. 🤯
Thanks Stuart, of course I enjoyed it, of course I subscribed ! As expected a practical and balanced review, not something I'll be rushing out to buy soon, but I can see how it would be invaluable in certain circumstances ! Good luck with the new channel, and Happy New Year to you !
Excellent video. Have been contemplating getting one for a long time. Would be very interesting to comparing a pneumatic vs gas vs electric comparison maybe for a future vid idea
Great first (1st) introduction to the new channel with an almighty tool. Best Wishes to yourself and the Family for 2025 and a BIG thank you for all your previous 'over the page' productions. Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge. I'm a learner.
Good luck with a new channel. We bought a frame nailer and it was a game changer for just everyday nailing projects. Like fence repairs. Ryobi to match our other kit. Heavy for this old man but with ring shank nails the anchor strength was amazing.
Would be great if you could side by side this with the Screwfix brand Erbauer first and second fix guns. Quality budget vs Quality professional. All ready love the new channel
Love the new channel idea and great first video Stuart - thanks. I am trying to convince the other half that we need one of these when we build our new fence in the spring. 👍🙂
100% agree about the Hikoki nailer. I bought mine for the construction of a 100m fence and shed. It worked like a dream. If you're thinking about a first fix nailer, then follow Stuart's advice ... buy one. But, and this is cost warning, the nails are not cheap.
I,very had the Hikoki NR90GC2 for several years and love using it though the noise is alot. I'm liking the idea of the all electric and the gas is getting pricey. Videos like this are great, that you Stuart and keep them coming.
Excellent video. No call for one of these, but very interesting to have It explained. Going to be a great channel and looking forward to future videos. Thankyou
Spent £350 on a DeWalt DCN680N 2nd fix nailer a few months ago... the most I've ever spent on a single tool with only one use! If you're on the fence as a casual DIYer about buying one and you've got some serious projects coming up, get one bought. I fitted a kitchen last weekend and using the brads to nail trim panels from the outside was 99% less visible than using screws would have been. (thanks kitchen designers for that one, literally unavoidable!!!) It's perfect for putting up architrave as well - you can square up the architrave with one hand and nail it with the other. Doorframe done in 10 minutes even if you only do doorframes once in a blue moon.
Very good video, good to see you've started up a new channel, very interesting and above all else, helpful and knowledgeable, keep up with all the great video content 💯👍👍👍👍
I laid a couple of tongue and grooved flooring at my last house and did it all by a rented hand nailer. Nearly killed me. Wish I had access to one of these - 45 deg nail through the tongue and sorted. Very tempted but I prob wouldn't use it very often although my son's floor and the landing needs doing...
Definitely on my wish list. Stuart, or maybe someone else here, do you know: all my other tools are makita (who don't make one of these I believe). The hikoki nailer would be used not that often: how do the batteries handle that, being unused for longer periods of time?
Congratulations on this second channel! I have a Hitachi finish nailer, though it is a pneumatic... But looks nearly identical to yours. Curious if the companies use the same manufacturer.
Hi Stuart, congratulations on the new channel, I gave no need for a nail gun but I want one, hope you have a Very Happy New Year, all the best for 2025, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Thanks for the new channel, We Love Tool reviews, Just a quick suggestion when you mention prices this is fairly important when folks are looking at a purchase and watching reviews to see if there any good, Can you take the time to get a price for Bare & Battery, Charger combo that is close to correct as the price on average is Bare: £316, & Kit with 2x5ah, & Charger: £523
I don't know where you are getting your numbers from - bare you can get from just under £300 and with 2 batteries/charger from Power Tool World today is £408 but sometimes cheaper depending on sales. Prices fluctuate depending on when you watch the video so anything I say will never be highly accurate.
I really would like one of these just incase I need it but sadly that's not a good enough reason to justify the £400 outlay to buy one 🤷♂. Great video as always Stuart
For a nominal DIYer like me, how much use would it get. I will research potential cheaper nail guns if they exist such as erbaur. Although, I must say i have a Hikoki reciprocating saw and an old Hitachi drill driver, both very old and battered, but still going very strong. They may out live me. My experience of the quality and power is positive.
Hope you and your family had a great Christmas Stuart. Looking forward to this new channel in 2025 hope you do a video on track saws as i am looking to purchase one this year Good Luck with new Channel Happy New year to you have a great proper DIY in 2025
That is a pretty sexy framing gun. I'm going to check it out at the store now that I've seen this. I was always told Hikoki was a low budget knock off. Who knew it was that good?
Grwat new channel. Excited for some more reviews. How long does 1 battery last if using for building a fence etc? I have all the deqalt 18v cordless stuff but not the nailer. Probably best for me to buy the bare dewalt tool. See you again soon.
Great new channel Stuart and thanks for explaining first fix etc, I have wondered. Just curious, as I want to get a nailer, how come you didn’t consider a DeWalt one to fit in with your existing battery system ?
It's a brilliant gun, better than the dewalt( diy use only), and needs no gas like the paslode. Second-hand guns are readily available and are easily servicable. They are very reliable guns.
Great new channel. Handy tool but as you said heavy and expensive. I wonder if there are lighter ones available, and would you consider doing comparisons. Thank you for a great video
@@ProperDIY-ToolsandStuff… that’s good news. I’ve bought into the Ryobi system and have an hunch that I’d get on with a few projects that such a tool would undoubtedly help. But I’m a novice here and would really appreciate a comparison between brands, in case the Ryobi versions of nail guns lack in any department. Great new channel!
We've had ours for a few years now. Decent tool but we have found that some nail brands don't work so well causing jams. We put this down to the paper used. The other downside is just the weight, it gets tiresome.
A quick question. When placing a nail close to the end of a piece of timber, is a framing nailer more likely or less likely to split the timber? I drill pilot holes for nail and screws in this situation when manually driving a nail or when driving screws with an impact driver. But that doesn't apply when you use a framing nailer . . . . .
If you push it down and pull the trigger multiple times will it try to fire multiple nails or is it smart enough to just fire one until it is re-cocked?
Hi Stuart, I saw your video on the new fence and noticed you had the hikoki 1st fix nailer. The burning question for me is, since you already have dewalt batteries why didn’t you opt for the DCN692?
I have a big project coming up where I need to fix over 100 2” thick wooden battens into a breeze block wall - can you buy masonry nails for this tool and would it be powerful enough for the job?
ooh, a new channel filled with toys and stuff :D I'm in!
Expensive tool, but useful. As a home DIY’er I would never have enough projects to justify the expense. Getting one from the local hire shop has worked for me in the past.
That's an interesting point about enough projects.
I hear you, but if you get a quote from a builder to do a job that you feel you're capable of, and that quote is way above what you're willing to pay - let's say it's €1500 above the estimated cost of materials - then it can be justified.

@DerekTJ best wishes with skylight project.
I bought this same nailer last year to build a garden room. It saved so much time. It never once went wrong and I fired a few thousand nails. It was well worth the money!
A great addition to your brand, congratulations and I wish you success. Thank you for helping us all!
Much appreciated!

For speed and convenience a nail gun is worth its weight in gold. Awesome tool
Like other commenters, I dont have the projects for this tool but I love learning about it so thanks for that 👍
New Channel? Nailed it. 🔨😃

Happy New Year Stuart. Great insight into this nailer. Thanks ever so much 👏👍

As usual clear and concise video, plus I at last found out the difference between first and second fix !!!😮
here for the new channel - Good Luck with this
Congratulations on the new channel. I am looking forward to lots of wonderful tool reviews.

Hi Stuart…Looking forward to all the different reviews on tools. Happy New Year to you.
I like both tools and stuff, so this is great!
Very good and informative video. thank you and happy new year.
Ooooooooo check the new intro. I am subscriber number 729 - I feel like a bubble should now chase me. I am not a number, I am a free man.
Nice one. Could we also get a video about second fix nail guns? Thanks :)

Yes, but this isn't just Tools & Stuff .... this is Proper DIY Tools & Stuff!
