"The moment I feared" & "Hey young world"... My personal favorites. The whole album is not only "real classic hip hop", but str8 up timeless music that knocks til this day. Facts!
Brother, there hasn't been an album like Slick's 1988 Classic since. The album itself should be studied at a university. The multiple characters all rapped by himself was unheard of. The man is in a class of his own.
It was a filler track. Nothing like "Moment I feared" That's why he said that. Like you thou. I thought the song was good. The album was a press play project for me.
Im from london and grew up loving ricks english style. before all the UK hip hop came he was all we had. he gets no love over here. pisses me off. the music press here should be showing him full respect, but they never have
UK / England is our little leagues. They don't know anything about real hip hop. They are cheap clones and not smart at all. We have no respect for British people here. Rick is much more American than British, that is why he is what he is. He embodies America and our swag.
@@cultureisking5193 thing is its obvious you dont know UK hip hop. Name me a couple of our best rappers, go on. I know you will come out with some obvious shit cos youve never realy listened lol. As for rick. Fact is his british style is part of his "swag". If you were a real hip hop fan you would not dismiss other nations artists so easily. Most of the guys you listen to would not because they are smart enough to know. if you dont respect british people, I dont care at all. makes no difference to me. It just makes you sound like a fool.
Ric speaking facts...I noticed people dont really like when cats keep it 100 bout their culture being THEIRS or how recent generations have completely perverted the essence of the original concepts and sciences. Maybe it was just ME but did yall peep how the host was kinda glarin at Ric when Ric was droppin those gems about one must learn a thing from the creators of that thing? Then it seems like after that they cut the show and brought Flex on which of course COULD have been a complete coincidence but it still didnt look good to me Ric is a living Legend a Hip Hop Icon and you dont ask questions? Ric's a real dude always has been matter fact thats how he got locked up...peace and blessings.
I peeped that, the whole show should have been The Ruler though...Flex was diminished by following rick. I almost fell asleep listening to flex and skipped through it.

Mad respect to Slick Rick from England. He still got a lil bit of an accent there but defo a true New Yorker. Come back and be the true ruler of England
He HAD to leave The Get Fresh Crew in 86' because Rakim Dropped!, & Everything He Rocked Still Remains Scorching Hot, Not To Take Away From Slickest Ricky D.! , With The Slickest British lingo In All Of N.Y.C.!
Back in the day when I was putting my crew together, my boy Fat Dug let me here a tape of a dude he was rap'n with. He was nice, so I'm like who is this? It's his boy Ricky D aka Slick Rick. I tell him to ask him if he wants to get down with us. But he needs to do more than just story rhyme. He talked to him and he said he partnered up with another dude. A year later The Show and Ladidadi blow up. I got clowned for a while on that one. Even after blowing Rick was still a cool. If it wasn't for the bullshyt with his cousin I think he would have been even bigger in hip hop. Salute to Rick the Ruler. Thanks for hanging that L around my neck!
I was with a crew that got an offer from Doug and Slick's label. Nobody in my crew wanted to be signed but me. They wanted to do it theirselves. I was dirt poor and woulda signed for thousand or a sandwich. The others ended up doing sloppy business and we never got more than known but broke. I always wonder if I would have amounted to anything if we got signed. I tried to get signed myself and they said you ddin't make the beats, scratch or do anything but rap...The said whole crew or not interested. Slick Rick the Rulers best story teller hands down no one comes close, The bomb squad (public enemy producers) Strong Island true hip hop trail blazers they did more than you know, just do the knowledge...word!
It continues to amaze me how many people think hip hop started in the Bronx...without checking out what was going on in the other boroughs. I'm from Brooklyn, and "hip hop" was there also. Grandmaster Flowers (from Brooklyn) put on his hip hop show at a James Brown concert in 1969 (at Yankee Stadium)..No one ever mentions that. Flowers was there from the real early days of Bklyn Hip Hop. I've always said..to learn the truth...people should track down the real old timers..aka Kool Herc...and ask them about early Brooklyn Hip Hop.
@@sportinlife1..I didn't say Brooklyn started it. I just said in a nutshell...that hip hop wasn't only in the Bronx...And what do you mean...Flowers wasn't hip hop..what was it then..Hip hop is a culture my brother...not just music..It includes dancing, graffiti etc. So now, are you saying graffiti and certain dances started in the Bronx too? I think not. DO YOUR research my brother.
how the fuck can he not know what The Bomb Squad is? His classics are either produced by himself or... The Bomb Squad. And I'm not really sure if he doesn't care about the beats, or he's suggesting Bomb Squad beats on his album were not really theirs, but really his. He doesn't want to talk a word about it and doesn't see the point of talking about them.
I believe he split from fresh because Slick wanted a good percentage, and fresh was not interested in doing that. Slick Rick was out growing him and fresh crew.
"Cause I got perception, mutherfucker." During this whole interview, it seems like Rick doesn't want to be there. The interviewer is always so pretentious and Rick let it be known. Rick almost made him cry.
