It's like finding a wife!
Hey Brett. Thank for sharing these stories. It is really helping me not feel alone! I parted ways with my previous cofounder when we were raising funds and things just fell through the floor for that company. I am still picking ups the pieces. I found a different team, but for a different idea entirely and we are in the pre-seed raising process. I am not sure this was the wisest decision in retrospect, but I enjoy working with the current team a lot more and believe they are much more capable.
Hey GigaFro, For what it's worth, I think you made the right decision. It sounds like a winning combination if you enjoy working with your new team more, and they are much more capable than your previous team. Best of luck!
Tough stuff early days. So many chickens and eggs, hard to get everyone aligned until the revenue is stable and growing !
Yes, it's tough stuff to start a business. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Very excellent content! It would be great if you can write a blog on this, also with experiences of startups you invested and mentored.
Thanks for the kind words, John. I already write a blog on this. You can check it out here: www.brettjfox.com
Hi Sir,
What are you doing?
Are you looking for a professional You Tube Thumbnail Designer and SCO specialist ?
Anyway,
Can we have a meeting to know more clearly?
Thanks
So if you fire them, do you pay them off? I just gave two ppl 2% in my startup in exchange for their tech services and the vesting period is after series A funding, I’d have given a guy 4% who is to build the front end cos I’m backend strong and average at front end but they guy couldn’t join due to his personal issues. So going forward, I will adopt your vesting schedule, however, is there a form of compensation or security for the co-founders/employees. Can I call them cofounders too based on that percentages ?
You can do whatever you want regarding co-founders. There are no rules. However, equity is not candy. The 2% and 4% that you're giving people adds up quickly. Before you know it, you don't have any equity left. So be careful.
@@BrettFoxstartupceo agreed. Make sure to measure out the expected value of equity at each stage and put that in line with fair compensation. For a true cofounder, like an all-in long term partner, they'll probably want/need at least 10%. Otherwise they'll only care so much...
@@BrettFoxstartupceo thank you Brett.
you're welcome @@bencipherx
