Seven or eight years later, Trew Audio still sells these parts for the same price. I’m glad I found this video because now I’m much more comfortable buying a trashed pair of 7506’s as a project.

I have TWELVE pair of these things, in all my gear bags and cases. I love being able to refresh them from time to time. I consider it a badge of honor to be able to repair and replace, rather than throw in a landfill.
And BTW, excellent production value on the open and close...probably took you longer to shoot that than it did to repair the 7506s. lol Great job!
Wow, 12 pair! I thought I was being over the top keeping a pair in each of my three regular carry bags, but apparently not. I think it's easy for some folks to forget that part of why pro gear costs more is the back-end support and parts availability that make repairs possible. I don't know if younger folks are getting exposed to that enough, as the entry level gear has become so disposable.

I finally repaired mine after 4 years! I didn't need tutorial in the end, but this gave me courage to do it. Video played in headphones all the time as test audio while I was repairing :D Thanks man!

For the first time I replaced my pads before blowing the driver (mostly because I let jackasses use them) it’s like having a brand new pair. Then I wondered about the wires pulling out and I needed to know how to take them apart. This is amazing. Thank you.

Iconic industry standard headphones for over 30 odd years and still the KING.I have headphones that cost over four thousand plus and IEMs up to thirty five hundred.And these are still my favorite not in sound but simply for what they are.I have the first year these were made still mint and bought a few along the years just to simply have in my collection.

You can also buy a sort of neoprene sleeve for the headband if the foam has flattened. It restores some cushioning and you can probably fit a thin layer of additional foam in there. I couldn't find a place to buy a cheap replacement headband so I bought a sleeve instead.

Literally just needed that website....That's beyond awesome they make full replacement kits....I bought a spare MDR-7506 as my audio bag set the wires started getting shredded/frayed and I was worried about them just dying on me on an expensive set/job. I had no idea they sold replacement headbands and cups for these! Definitely getting a pair, the wires went bad on my current and only the left side works, this will be great!

Hah, lol, you said shitting all over the table. So true! I bought my pair of 7506 in 1995. I've replaced the pads 5 times since. I always buy my replacement pads off eBay. They seem to have the best deals online.

i had the same problem with those earpads. replaced with velour pads for like 10 bucks, still in perfect condition years later and i swear the sound is even a bit better

The Trew Audio headband is a genuine Sony item; Trew Audio builds mic headsets based on the MDR-7506 (forgot their own model number) by gutting the 7506 and transferring the internals to their own frame with mic. Therefore, they resell the left over 7506 headband and cups. (And they're not, technically, new...)

I bought and installed new pads and was going to get a headband replacement, but then I saw the soldering and stuff, so I ended up buying a cover thingy for the cushion. For some reason the "leather" on mine started to rot, but the cups look fine anyway, so no soldering for now :D

One side of the headphones wasn't working for me. I changed the pads and now both sides work. Don't ask why and how. These headphones are able to fix themselves.

Darn, I was hoping you'd demonstrate how to remove the hangers.. I've having trouble with that at the moment.

2:36 A loose headband does not affect the lower end bass as much as you think.... having all the pleather come off of the pads so they are now technically "velour", does affect the low end a lot.
Many models of extremely reputable headphones come with velour ear-pads, this is seen as an improvement over fake leather. Are you suggesting that fake leather somehow adds to the sound? Also, headband tension absolutely does affect the bass response. It accounts for not only the distance of the driver from your ear, but also the seal created from the headphone cup to your head. I'm not sure where you've got your info from, but it is incorrect. Thanks for watching & commenting.

I have 7506s and a set of ATH-M30x's with the same issue - right channel is out. I don't know how to diagnose what is wrong with either of them. I don't have a multimeter and I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this issue without one
Hey, thanks for the message. Where are you located? Without a multimeter or other tools, it will difficult for sure. With two different pairs exhibiting the same issue, with the right speaker being out, I would guess the thin cable that routes through the headband on both has been damaged over time. Do you adjust your headphones a lot or share them with someone with a different size head? It's probably a simple repair, but will take a soldering iron and some other tools to complete. Do you happen to know a source for the urethane rings that are around the drivers? Encompass has them, but they want $6 a ring. When I changed the cable on my CDR900STs, I had to remove the rings because they were all gooey and coming apart.

They do make ear muffs that are not that older leather fall off matrial.. You can get some 3rd party muffs absolutely a save if you get it.. Never have shedding problem again.

Oh yeah I forgot sony ear pads disintegrate. I hope it at least still leaves you with a usable soft pad like my old mdr6 did. I used those pads for like 10 years without being too annoyed. These look slightly thinner
It would be great to find any pads like these that don't disintegrate over time, but they all seem to do it, not just the Sony ones. This replacement set is maybe a tiny bit less plump than the original, but it would be really unlikely anyone would notice it without comparing them side by side in person. Thanks for the message!
can't find what u ordered in trewaudio.com in europe. everything I found was way expensive and just had the headband!
My 7506 have more than 12 years but the drivers are still in top shape. I would defo do what u did with yours! like new!

DcSoundOp - I have Sony MDR-V600 that looks almost identical. The left speaker works but the right speaker does not work. Upon opening the right side up i noticed the wires seem to be connected perfectly. Any thoughts on what might be wrong and what might need to be done? Btw, the input lead enters on the left speaker. That may be opposite of yours; i'm not sure.

There is. Solder a new wire to the old one and slowly pull the old one out, pulling the new one in its place.

I have a pair of 7506, and the cable that connect the two speakers (the one that goes along the headband) is broken. I wanted to just attach them together, but it's a weird kind of cable. It's not a regular cable. It is like a cloth wire. Do you know how can I attach them back?

I bought a pair of these and I hardly used them. The left headphone went out.
Every pair of headphones I've had always has this happen. What am I doing?!
How different are the MDR-7506 and MDR-V6 when it comes to their shells? I need to replace my MDR-V6 stuff but haven't had much luck finding anything. The speakers work fine on it but the wires on one side are exposed.
They're pretty much exactly the same, the only real difference I can think of is the earcups saying MDR-7506 instead of MDR-V6
I think only difference is the cable. 7506 has gold plating and the V6 does not. I have both. Specs are identical if I remember correctly from looking this up a year ago.
I know im way late but the main difference is the driver magnet v6 has samarium-cobalt magnets 7506 has neodymium
how can I fix the problem where the adapter that plugs into the laptop in my case doesnt work anymore unless I press it and move it around and hold it when i hear something? the adapter doest come off from what I see, or does it? Thanks for your help
There might be a problem with the cord, if that's the case you can get a replacement cord from amazon (www.amazon.com/Geekria-Replacement-ATH-M50s-MDR-7506-Headphones/dp/B00PL8BLP4)
It's best to show it to a electronics-savy friend/relative.
The right speaker of my 7506 wasn't working, after several months I picked it up and removed the screws. Seeing that I don't know any electronics, I showed it to a relative. We were able to fix it in a short time.
The fix is probably very simple, you probably just need to change the cord.
hey man, mine just broke yesterday. i have not dived into it but the right side doesn't work. i think i just yanked off the connection in the R side, but wanted to ask you, ¿have you got the in the same kind of trouble before?
Oh yeah, it's really simple to pop them open and find the solder connection that's come detached. It used to happen to me occasionally before I got the M-50x w/ the detachable cable.
Super easy fix though, and my favorite is to just replace the factory cable with a length of your favorite XLR cable and a high quality 1/4" end.

Been using my trusty 7506s for about 4 years, unfortunately the urethane ring around the driver in the left ear fell apart. Do you know where I can find replacements for them? I've found every other part to refresh them, but not those.
According to the service manual, that is part 28 in the exploded view - or - 28 # 2-113-149-01RING,URETHANE -
The photo looks wrong, but the part number is correct here encompass.com/item/637156/Sony/2-113-149-01/Ring_Urethane - for only $5 it might be worth it to you to see if they send the right thing.

Ordered and it was correct! Photo is of the full ring, basically you need to punch out the center and you have the part that goes around the driver. Thank you so much!

@@visibleaesthetics7343 nice, did you find the issue? On the original curly cord, you can sometimes have a wire go bad internally if it’s really worn. So if all of your connections look good, it might just be worn out.
