They receive over twice the amount of money per student annually and yet 23 schools don't have a single student that meets minimum math standard requirements. Why? Because of several factors. 1. Corrupt teachers unions not using the large amounts of money to invest in their schools. Instead the money ends up in some union boss/ Democrat politicians pockets as many have been busted for already. All the way up to previous mayor's being arrested for corruption. 2. Democrat progressive policies dissuading the nuclear family. Studies show kids with a mother and father in the house tend to do better all around. Given Baltimore is mostly black, single parent households are much more common. This statistically does a disservice to the kids. 3. Black culture in general doesn't prioritize education. This one is huge and I'm not the one to know how to fix it other than stop rewarding mothers who have babies out of wedlock with more social service support(money). The list goes on as to why you can't apply the same standards. Throwing more money at the problem like in Baltimore is obviously not working.
It's an age old model, nothing new here. High property values = nice schools. They also spend far less per student than most urban schools and have FAR better outcomes academically. Which tells you it starts at home, not at school.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. 90% of everything in that school was there in the 1970s when I went there! Back then, it was a little more than a farm town with parents supporting their local schools. I live 30-40 minutes from there in Anderson. We compete some sports with them. Mainly just basketball. And as someone in the performing arts, there choir programs, and band programs are just insane. My in person experience feels like how I would imagine high school musical to be. It felt like a movie scene to me.
I always dreamed of going to a school like this, with such robust programs and a welcoming environment instead of a dilapidated campus that looks like a prison!!

The girl's swim has won more events every year than any other school. What people don't see here is that there is a youth program starting with young kids. It is parent supported: Carmel Dad's Club. So the kids starting off into HS have already had lots of experience in sports. Parents support the students and school a LOT

8-9k per student here. 18-25k per student in inner cities. They spend more there for worse results and it looks like a tornado ripped through their schools everyday. My city pays 16k per student and put test scores are pretty low.

One of the Writers for the tv show Glee went to Carmel High School. Carmel demographics are mostly white high end professionals hence the ritzy schools, hospitals, and performing arts centers

I would say 60% was there in the 70s, I was there for all 4 years of construction.
