In today’s episode, Becket chats with Megan Basham, a culture reporter for the Daily Wire, about her new book, “Shepherds For Sale: How Evangelical Leaders Traded the Truth for a Leftist Agenda.”
Liberal theology isn’t new. Pastors and theologians have drifted, slipped, or even plunged into doctrinal error for centuries. But in recent decades, Daily Wire reporter Megan Basham reveals, well-funded forces from outside the church have been sowing seeds of discord from behind the scenes.
In Shepherds for Sale, Basham documents how progressive powerbrokers -from George Soros, to the founder of eBay, to former members of the Obama administration- set out to change the American church. Secular foundations and think tanks have deliberately targeted Christian media, universities, megachurches, nonprofits, and even entire denominations, not to mention many high-profile pastors and influencers, with infiltration and astroturf campaigns. Their goal: to co-opt the church for political purposes. In exchange for toeing a left-wing line, many of those church leaders and institutions have received cash, career jumps, prestige, and praise.
Now, many evangelical leaders are pushing their members to “whisper” about sexual sins, reconsider the importance of abortion, lament the effects of climate change, and repent of “perpetuating systemic racism.” Meanwhile, America’s largest evangelical denominations are fraught with division over issues like critical race theory, and many ministries once known for publishing sound doctrine are now promoting social justice.
A rigorously reported exposé, Shepherds for Sale serves as a warning of what can happen when a church forgets that true power lies not in the world’s wisdom, but in Scripture.

Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from college, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.

Humbling isn't it. We cannot do that. So who does God look to? the humble and contrite ones. Psalm 34:18 and Isaiah 57:15.
Ask God to send the Holy Spirit to you, Luke 11:13. He will bring your sins to mind. As he does ask Jesus to forgive you. This will be painful, PRIDE HATES IT.
When you see your desperate need (Jeremish 17:9) for a Saviour, call out to Jesus to save you. He came to save sinners.
Then do as the risen Jesus commanded, be baptized. Matthew 28:18-20, in the water of repentance Mark 1:1-5, Matthew 3:6. Calling on the name of the Lord, Romans 10:9-13. How? As Peter preached Acts 2:21, 38 and as Paul did, Acts 22:16, Acts 19:1-5.
Think on Mark 16:16, 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 6:3-11, 1 Corinthians 12:13 and Colossians 2:6-15.
When He has regenerated you, you will desire Him. Read His inspired word, the Authorized Version, the King James Bible. The Spirit of truth will lead you into all truth. His word strengthens, washes (as does His powerful blood). His word reads you Hebrews 4:12. Daily bible reading and prayer is essential in building on the foundation which is Christ Jesus.
PS. The other apostles were already baptized, they baptized others. John 4:1-2.
Read His preserved word, the Authorized Version later called the King James Bible.

I even r3ead in a Christian magazine (here in the UK) that the term 'Biblical Christianity/Biblical truth' is wrong and a way of controlling others! Infiltration is real and has been extremely effective.
My mother in law just came legally to the United States last month. It took about 10 years and cost my wife and me about $10,000. I married my wife in Honduras over 27 years ago and she came to America legally. I had my wife's paperwork sponsored by the Senate Majority Leader (Trent Lott). ONLY because of that was she given her visa in about 9 months. My family is very much against illegal immigration (for ANY reason).

Our DIL and our son paid 20k for fees etc for her to become a citizen.

Yes, I too lately is so disappointed in Christains with this disconnect. They are also so disconnected with the imminent danger of the islamacisation of UK n not supporting people who are trying to save n take back our country. They keep voting for parties that are in cahoot with the religion of peace community n who are also too cowardly to deal with the problems they created. They only arrest people aka Tommy Robinson who are trying to stop the takeover of UK. So, scary to see some Christains so blind n ignorant of what's going on in their own country.

Tolerance usually means tolerating evil of various degree and various kinds.
Tolerance for tolerance's sake almost never works.
After Trump was elected in 2016, our pastor sent out a letter to everyone in the congregation, stating that we would not say the name 'Donald' or 'Trump' when we pray for our leaders. His rationale was that the name was very upsetting to some people and therefore, it wouldn't be inclusive. Interesting how inclusive is not a two-way street; only a one-way for the people who can't tolerate Trump, not even to pray for him as Christians. I recall people not liking George Bush for the war in Iraq, yet we said his name when we prayed for our leaders. Why couldn't the pastor counsel those who were so upset, to take their rage, hate, fear, whatever it is to God and ask for healing?
Every believer must read and learn the word of God and as they do, the Holy Spirit gives wisdom and discernment for the things of God. It is our most powerful defense against deception. A pastor who dilutes, compromises and manipulates God's word will never be my pastor. Christians need to seek Him for discernment.
I left my church because of thier celebration of Obama fir 8 years and hate for Trump soon as Trump announced he was runing and it got worse in 2016.
Mostly churches divided because you had to be Trumpers. Trump or get thrown out of the church.

As a Christian physician, with a masters in counseling, I have always been impressed with the ubiquitousness of early childhood sexual abuse, and I rarely meet anyone with same-sex attraction, who on honest inquiry, doesn’t reveal a history of sexual abuse early in life. I hope you can do some shows about this topic.
My husband is in psychiatry and this was his findings as well.
I remember this being something I learned like 20 years ago. I imagine it's still true.

I wish I knew how to contact the Christian physician with the masters in counseling because I have some questions. I have learned of some things going on in jr high and hs sports in our public schools that are very disturbing in our state and how it’s being covered up.
Absolutely! Sorry I forgot where the study is from, but 98% of the same sex attractions and gender dysphoria are due to sexual abuse.. Others from broken dysfunctional families..

I don't have a community right now. I don't go to any church, pastors see shepherding as just a job that gives them money but they are not really interest in the sheep, in the people. It's sad.

@@Sunshine-lt6rp We were having trouble too so for this season my husband and I are worshipping at home with Calvary Chapel Pastors . They exegete scripture which is rightly dividing the word of God as Paul instructs us in the Timothy letters. Whatever denomination that you check out should exegete scripture this is so important so you don't get off track. We should understand that we are to be in community so pray and don't give up. There are still good churches but it's getting harder to find for sure.

This is such an excellent interview. I appreciate you both so much. Thank you for taking a biblical stance. I have immediate family who are unsaved living a gay lifestyle. I love these people and I want them to repent and be saved. My beliefs about homosexuality and abortion changed when I was saved. The Holy Spirit changed my mind. It’s not out of hate. Praise God for you both.

Collins was the guy that I felt most betrayed by. And I might add, just because Megan has exposed these people it doesn't mean anything has changed, they are still there and still active.
Interesting. I once heard John Todd, an ex-satanist, say in one if his interviews in the 1970's, that the Collins's, who are his relatives, were all heavily in the occult. I don't know if it is true. But his old interviews are still floating

It may take some time to see change. The book just came out.
I believe there is climate change. It's called Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. I've lived in Oklahoma for several years where the days weather doesn't always stay the same from one day to another. This is normal and natural.
I spent summers and all of high school in Alva Ok very NW Ok and we had a bank sign on Main Street that showed time and temp and during the summers temp often got to 120 daily. So this BS if hottest summer ever is so deceptive . They have just successfully memory- holed anything that refutes their narrative .

Problem #1: Most (not all, but most) of our "preachers' are D- halfwits raised (mostly) on TV shows. Problem #2: Our scholars are cloistered away inside universities behind very expensive paywalls. Problem #3: Our so-called "Christian influencers" are Fed Govt sock puppets. We have to solve all three problems. Nobody will solve them for us. I have ignored your channel, Becket, for too long. For that I repent because I need to keep abreast of trends in American Christendom. Churches are closing at a faster and faster pace these days, and I believe fear is the motivator as much of the laity are following the world's focus on income as the measure of what is success and what is failure. My personal favorite OT prophet is Jeremiah (a.k.a., the "Weeping Prophet") who paid dearly because of his love for God and His people. I love how Ms. Basham addressed all of these issues that so many Christians, like myself, have been saying, "Wait, what?" about for years now concerning the faith and the church so concisely and Biblically. I live in a VERY liberal town and heard a lot of the "Love your neighbor, get the shot." kind of talk and remember thinking "Is this a kind of liberal type of Phariseeism? Am I a bad Christian if I want more evidence of the vaccine's safety (it's not even technically a vaccine!) or because I DON'T want to intentionally harm myself OR MY NEIGHBOR by just taking it without proper research or following my God-given conscience?" While I forgive, it really kinda hurt my heart. I think a lot of these things have so sadly caused a great deal of confusion and divisiveness. Pray for our church leaders and the body! Yes, to what you said! These "loving" "Christians" weren't very loving to those of us who did not want to put unknown substances into our body. There was even a horrendous fb post from a guy I know who used to be a pastor. He was lecturing Christians as being "selfish", "not caring about others", "not being Christ-like", "not truly a Christian", etc. if they dared not take the shot, "for the sake of others". He was so out-of-line and evil in what he had to say. They are all so guilty of what they accuse us of being.

I think Meg has a righteous cause, however as Christians it is of the utmost important that we are factual and truthful in our work. The Church must reassert its authority from “political correctness”, but it must be done in a righteous manner.

I have been “Waking up” for the last 4 years and I am dismayed at the Christians and the Christian churches I know that don’t want to deal with any of the political issues that are causing real harm to people in the community. They don’t want to “talk politics” but they are really denying their responsibility in explaining morality when it comes to issues of “Medical Assistance in Dying” (Euthenasia) in Canada.

Always enlightening to listen to your guests. I feel Megan’s book is definitely going to help me understand some of the craziness going on in our culture. On the topic of the Covid vaccine, I was very confused and especially listened to a minister on X and a relative who both became extremely ill and almost died from covid. I begged the Lord to show me what to do. After such a prayer, I had a dream that after getting the shot my tongue swelled up. So that was it for me & I pursued natural solutions that have helped me stay well from a lot of viruses now. We have to pray for guidance on everything these days because we are definitely well into the last days where even the elect will be deceived. I’ve written before about family members who have accepted these liberal ideas, I see their families falling apart, it’s so sad. I’m guessing the spirit of the Lord departs when he is grieved by our false notions. It is imperative that we stay under the umbrella of His protection in these last days.
