Therapist Reacts to Nothing More - HOUSE ON SAND

  • Therapist analyzes the lyrics of House On Sand by Nothing More to discuss that often when we build our lives on a foundation that isn't firm everything crumbles when the storm comes. This song gives us an anthem to listen to as we "build my life again". It's a call to rebuild on something firmer.

Just discovered this band through this song and am really enjoying them. You're the first reaction to it I've seen that immediately got the significance of the Alan Watt's spoken word sample in the intro. Super powerful sentiment and sets up the lyrical themes of the song really well. Great video!

This song dropped the day my Stepdad abandoned my ma, sister, and I. I was on the job when my mom called me telling me what happened and she said, "I don't know what to do." This song really gave me the courage to know what to do. Since then all I've done is pick up the pieces and it feels great.

This is genuinely turning into one of my favourite channels due to the content and your reactions.
I’d like to recommend “Poet and the Pendulum” live at Wembley by Nightwish. It is not the normal song people start with when it comes to Nightwish, however it is the song that suits this channel the most as it deals with depression and struggle. It was written by Nightwish’s song writer the keyboardist Tuomas during the hardest time in the bands history and he basically ended his life in the song to stop himself doing it in real life, however the new song finishes positively with a new beginning. It is one of the best written pieces of music you will come across and is broken into Acts. I won’t say more about it.
Nightwish hold the record for most reacted song in TH-cam history with “Ghost Love Score” (normally what people start their Nightwish journey with. However, as previously mentioned, “Poet” suits this channel perfectly, especially if the research is done on the songs meaning beforehand.

im 32 with a lot of tough times but for some reason im still constantly haunted by high school. so many bad memories just won't let me go. regrets that still cause nightmares.
ive almost ended up homeless, had to move back in with my parents, couple years later got a divorce, moved back with the parents again. but that doesn't bother me like my regrets from high school. they were hard decisions, it caused a lot of pain but they don't haunt me like shit from 15 years ago does
how do i make that stop?!

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

From ManekiNeko: @bradhaines3142 I have struggled with the thoughts that haunt me from the past. The things I’ve done that have caused a lot of hurt to others. I have spent years looking back and wishing for a different outcome. I spent years hating myself and bullying myself. I spent years keeping those thoughts with me as a defence mechanism to avoid making friends because if I hurt one more person, then I didn’t think I could live with myself.
How could anybody want to be in my life with the person I was.
The key point I kept missing for all those years is “the person I was” is no longer the person I am. I know I caused hurt and I know I should have handled things differently, but being here in the present, I can confidently say, that person deserves some forgiveness. That person was immature and didn’t know how to handle things like I do now. The people I have hurt have moved on in their lives. They don’t sit and absorb this bubble that consumes them like we do. I’ve reflected and pretended to go back in time to meet my younger self, and I met them with kindness in my heart. I met them with grace and understanding. I hold responsibility for my own actions and the hurt they caused, but once we allow ourselves to embrace forgiveness of self, we start to acknowledge all the growth we have taken between then and now.
Would if we could go back? Maybe, but maybe I also wouldn’t have done the self reflection to learn how to handle the hard stuff. To learn the importance of surrounding myself with people of good nature and love.
So, to present day you, I ask what you would say to your younger self? Can you meet them with gentleness and love? Can you extend forgiveness?
It takes one step at a time, but you aren’t alone for the journey

      From djstarion: @bradhaines3142 Hey friend,
I'm 43 and there are things that haunt me too. I'm sorry there were things that you regretted from high school, and there were things I thought I had regretted too. The way I see it, no matter what decisions I made, whether they be good or bad, helped me become the person I am today. We can't change what's happened in the past, but we can definitely steer ourselves into the future we want.
      You've got this!

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

From ebcoile: @bradhaines3142 I want to say, first off, I genuinely appreciate your courage to reach out and share your struggles. Like you, I've had times in my life where I allowed bad memories to cripple me. I hear you and know you are valid. You are still young and you still have a beautiful story to write. Dont let those past mistakes cause you to write yourself off. You can take those and use them to help you along this life's journey. I think that we forget that the bad is just as valuable as the good in shaping who we are. Take those bad memories and use them to help you as you make your choices for today and tomorrow. Its so easy to get lost in the past and wonder how things could be different if those things hadn't happened. There's no guarantee that you still wouldnt have gone through what you did. But those things did happen and yet you are still here and you are still fighting. That takes courage. Give yourself grace amd forgiveness. And above all, give yourself credit for all the good that you are.
      With love
      Eric

      From satty22: @bradhaines3142 Hey there,
That’s a great question. I don’t know how to make it stop either but there are lots of little things that help. You are definitely not alone.
For one, I try not to stew in the regrets too much. There isn’t anything I can do to change the past. I like to remember to go easy on myself too. No body is perfect.
After that, I find it’s really helpful to start moving forward. What is it that I am missing/want/need? Where do I want to go? What do I need to get there?
I think that initial sort of reframing really helps settle my nerves and puts me in a better place.
Thanks so much for posting. Keep your head up.

      From domenic4: @bradhaines3142 Hi there!
First of all thank you for sharing all of your emotions and feelings here!
I know how rough it is to have experience from the past continue to affect us years later. High School can leave pretty deep wounds on us and it is an experience and something that can definitely affect us for the long run. Your feelings are valid and i understand how hard it is to experience those feelings.
If it helps you, high school is a time of figuring stuff out and we are bound to make mistakes and regret the decisions we took when we were in highschool, it is a confusing time and mistakes happen. Maybe talking about all of those regrets that you ar having with someone, either a friend or a professional can help you resolve and feel more at ease.
I hope you find the peace you deserde and remember that you are not alone in this and we are always here to support you too.

From ebcoile: @jessicawieland7743 You are not alone at all! We all struggle with things from our past, things that we hold on to. Don't ever feel like this is something that you are facing alone. I have so many things in my past that haunt me every day. Mistakes made in my previous marriage that I struggle to let go of amd that has caused me to not be able to be fully healed. I don't know what you are going through and i dont want to try and compare your trauma to a broken marriage, but i do know what it feels like to not be able to let go of things. You are so brave to acknowledge that those things have burdened you, that is the first step in beginning a healing process. It can be a long and painful road, but don't allow those things to define who you are. You are a strong and courageous person that has so much life to live. You can take control of your trauma and use it to create something great inside you. I see you and I believe you will find healing and will in turn be an inspiration to others.

From ManekiNeko: @jessicawieland7743 To some degree a lot of people can relate to holding onto something that hurts to let go of. It can feel like re traumatisation having to open those wounds and having to face them all over again.
The impact of holding it is also a heavy burden to carry alone. Sometimes it feels like if we keep looking back and thinking about it, perhaps we will gain insight and find an explanation or sometimes it feels like it’ll help us avoid being hurt in the future.
Self healing is a journey that can be reached, it’s a journey that can open and explore the potential of who you can be without this lingering hurt, doubt or fear.
Be gentle with yourself and give yourself some grace. We all love at our own pace and it’s so important to listen to what your mind and body need.

“I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat sown in the ground dies, it remains infertile; but if it dies, it will produce much fruit. He who loves himself is lost; He who abhors himself in this world secures himself for eternal life."
    Matthew 7:24
"Therefore, whoever hears these words of mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, and the rivers came, and the winds blew, and beat against that house; and it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock. But whoever hears these words of mine and does not do them, I will compare him to a foolish man, who built his house on sand; and the rain fell, and the rivers came, and the winds blew, and beat against that house; and he fell, and his ruin was great."

I'd like you to have a look at Lawrence - Don't Lose Sight (acousticish). It's a song on the other side of the mental health spectrum in that it's a positive song that lifts you.
I liken watching this performance to "going to mental health church" in good way.

This song has come at the perfect time for me. On the outside I was kicking goals but on the inside my Trauma was still controlling me and holding me back. Now I feel like I have conquered it. I've remember what is important to the true me. That one I've always been but have been hiding, protecting. Now I embrace love and support it. My confidence has never been higher. My goals are shifting to who I really am and not just doing what I thought was best. I'm goingto take chances to embrace the person who I truly am. My house is no longer built on sand.

From bmao: @adamharding2934 I feel you. Letting go of control is so hard. It often feels like if we don't spearhead the situation, if we don't lead the charge, if we don't put things into motion, then they will not get done, or at least not get done in a way that we envision them getting done. It can be so hard to trust someone else to take the work that you are delegating to them, and it can be so hard to leave something important in someone else's hands. Especially when this something important is the happiness of your family. It can feel like you are the only person that can create happiness for them, so letting go equates to leaving your family unhappy. I struggle with this all the time, and it can still be very hard for me to let go of control.
Keeping your family happy is not your sole responsibility. Though it feels amazing to brighten someone's day and to make those around you feel great, you do not have to carry the weight of that responsibility. Simply by being in their lives you are a bright, shining light for every family member. You don't have to burden yourself with the task of bringing your family up.
You are enough. You do not have to keep your family happy all the time to have intrinsic value. You can have time where you need your family to pour back into you. Your ability to make your family happy does not equal your purpose or familial role. You can be a bright light to them and encourage them, but the burden of ensuring 24/7 happiness for all of them is not yours to bear. Just by being who you are in their lives is powerful. You lead by example and shine your light in a way that signals them to follow your lead. Then they walk in your footsteps rather than you being forced to carry them along the path. I wish you and your family nothing but the best. I appreciate your openness and honesty so much. We are always here for you if you would like to talk more.
