Been a long time viewer but dont usually comment. Just wanted to say thanks for all the travel tips. Your videos have inspired my wife and I to travel. Was neat to see you in Ab recently (we are up in Edmonton). Cheers.
You might want to check out Rincon de Guayabitos. We are just north of Lo de Marcos 15 minutes. It’s a very popular beach town that caters to national tourists mostly from Guadalajara. Big families and loads of inexpensive accommodations. The town right next door is La Peñita and that is a working town with a beautiful main avenue and plaza. On Thursday we have a marketplace in the plaza and we close down an entire street. It’s a true working market, mostly artisan crafts, essentials, food, drinks clothing, plants…we have lived here full time for 7 years.
That is good. I don't think you can avoid the currency conversion fee at any ATM. It is 1% of your total withdrawal. If you take out $500 USD in pesos they will subtract $5 USD or equivalent in pesos from your withdrawal. It is how the banks and ATMs make their money. Nothing is free. Some American banks will refund the ATM fee but not the currency conversion fee of 1% which is mandatory.
I feel like I’m on holiday watching this, love your new shirts and hat. Thanks for the great shopping tour, reminds me of shopping in Bali. Great looking food and cocktails. Great tips on money conversion. Love the outro music, so soothing with the beautiful sunset. Cheers🍹
We ask our bank who their affilate bank in Mexico is. Large banks always have an affilate bank in Mexico for trade purposes. If you use an affiliate bank there is no charge at the bank ATM. Nice video, I got to see some spots that I'm very familiar with.
I get pesos in Canada from my bank. No fees at all straight up conversion at the daily rate . Order online at CIBC , pick it up at your branch . I haven't hit a bank machine in 6 weeks. I'm saving about 20% . Used my CC only twice on large purchases . No fees or conversion charges. Saving large , ya baby....
Sweet, didn't know about that option. I get a good rate from my bank when I use an ATM, but the fees do add up. I'm traveling sorta non-stop so can't order currency in advance.
I live in PV. I find that the rate at Scotia Bank 4-5% different than the official rate. There are no bank fees for withdrawal if you are a Scotia Bank customer. We find that you can often get a better rate through credit cards that are specific to travelling. The rate is very close to the official exchange rate.
Hey Gabriel, this is the most amazing, vibrant and happy place. I love your new shirts and all the art and the murals and of course the dining tables and chairs right on the beach. I thank you and wish you a very Merry Christmas.
Hi Gabriel, it's a Beautiful day. Enjoy the nice weather and the vibes. The winters are brutal all day, and little sunlight can be hard on the body. No wonder everybody gets the flu and colds.
Mens clothing in Mexico is way more expensive than it is here in Wyoming. We've got a Marshalls here that sells very good quality clothing for 80 and 90 percent off the original retail price.
Gabriel, I've been seeing a similar scam where this happens on credit card terminals as well. You put your credit/debit card in and the waiter unknowingly just keeps hitting the green button. On one of the screens, the green button selects paying in USD rather than local currency and gives you a bad exchange. The waiter doesn't realize, the terminal is designed to make it likely for them to make this mistake.
I've been to pretty well every corner of Mexico, but never to Puerto Vallarta (or anywhere else on the Pacific coast apart from Acapulco). Need to get out there sometime and do some exploring. The closest I got to PV was Guadalajara, but didn't head to the coast (I was a poor 18 year old at the time).
Interesting views of Puerto vallerta, i too went from calgary for a visit just went around the board walk ending up to the church of guadelupe and local gift shops, did not get time to see the areas now viewing in your vlog.Stayed at Hilton so far to commute by uber to city.

I enjoy your video's too, for future reference, there is a Walmart and even a Woolworths near you in P.V., if you need everyday things it's the best place to buy them.
The best and cheapest way to get to Yelapa is the hop on the orange bus to Boca de tomatlan then grab a taxi boat there for about 6,00usd. 25.00usd is way too expensive!!!
It was $27.50 USD round trip for a 45 minute boat ride each way, not a scam, super convenient. Worth paying a few extra dollars instead of dealing with a bus for who knows how long, getting off and then waiting for a boat. ✌️
Cool. 👍 It sounds way more confusing trying to figure out where to catch the bus and what time, plus getting out of PV isn't quick with the traffic. Direct boat worked great for me, but whatever you enjoy is all good.
@@Hazy3 my experience guide in PVR are not too reliable. A little bit like their tours, you inquire a one place and they give a price, then you go 2 blocks down a the price is way different. Be aware of guides who tell you a fun adventure then you ended up in a timeshare pitch sale! And there's a lot in PVR
How about heading further south, hitting up Argentina, Chile. Looks like nice Temps down that way. I was gonna suggest southeast Asia but I think it's the wet season there now
Declining the conversion is absolutely not unique to Mexico. Accepting the currency conversion in any country is always a huge disadvantage to person withdrawing the funds. Wow, that is a huge scam on the conversion, in Thailand it shows you the price they charge as 220 baht, which is presently $6.43, nothing like what they are charging in Mexico.
Great insights on the exchange situation. I find there to be quite a range of options and if you shop around, one can avoid being ripped off by playing close attention. Many folks traveling to places like PV aren't seasoned travellers, might only get there for a week or two at the most, are there for a good time, couldn't care less about the exchange, so they get taken advantage of. Easy come, easy go. That first place you showed was a rip off, and right in the heart of the tourist zone. I'm sure the guy is making a killing.
Not a fan of the romantic zone, way too expensive, and touristy. Other neighbourhoods such as 5 Diciembre and Pitillal are more interesting and authentic.
So, hows the public transportation there? Can you like travel around easily solo without renting a car? And maybe go for walks through local villages or nature or something? Or is that just something people dont really do in Mexico? I mean, of course you can make walks but I mean like not along busy roads or some not very interesting suburb. Because the town itself looks ok, but very busy and touristy. Perfect for a family beach holiday of course, but maybe not so interesting when you are there by yourself. Seems like a decent place to use as base camp for a couple of weeks and explore the region around it, perhaps? And I really dont like tours, for me it takes away all the excitement of exploring if you know what I mean.
Buses very plentiful and inexpensive, both local "milk" runs and longer distance luxury. Ex: Puerto Vallarta Airport to Sayulita on a local bus $50 pesos ($3.55CDN, $2.46USD). Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara (aprx. 4hrs) double decker luxury bus $800 pesos ($56 CDN, $39 USD).
I use Charles Schwab ATM card and they charge no ATM fees or no International money exchange fees buy refunding you all charges at the end of every month.
What do you think about the "danger travel" genre that has sprung up in recent years? I don't really have a problem with it, depends on the youtuber, some I just don't click with and don't follow. You say there are scams in PV? It's too touristy- too many vendors on the beach- you can't even enjoy some peace. There are tour guides that rip people off. $30 for a cheap t-shirt would be a scam, but for a nice button up it's fair. Mexico isn't nearly as cheap as it used to be. Check hotel prices on booking.com, they're pretty close to the prices in the US in touristy areas. You can find better deals if you get out of the tourist zone, for both hotels and shopping in local markets.

Citibank ATM's charge the lowest fees I have found in PDC
They're actually the highest in México. I always use Santander and Banorte
@@mateor7302 Not in PDC. I think it's 40 pesos. Santandor and Banorte are like 80-90.
