One very optimistic thing with Kurt that I love is his constant progression in every aspect of music. Its not hard to hear that he still practice alot! His chops nowdays are breathtaking and listing to older recordings, both live and on record you hear and steady determined development. It inspires people to work hard their own mucical development on their own. Kurt is a living proof that hard work pays of. His gift or talent is only to be prayed for. i dont know if the duality of 'on vs. off' applies to Kurt, he leaves his entire life out on the bandstand every single show, he plays with so much passion... what a blessing he is to music and what an amazing inspiration for guitarists and just musicians in general.

They must be really good, but all closed minded because he is setting the new aesthetic in jazz guitar, his style is the new thing, so common there are lots of good guitar players in the world but only a few strong enough to create trends...

The guitar was tuned in a much more complex manner than just a 1/2 step down if you didnt know. This is the tuning he used for most of the songs on The Next Step: Bb-G-Db-Ab-Bb-Eb (hell of a low E-string. But if you listen to the record, you can hear some of the basslines he plays with the chords are really low). His best record together with the Remedy if you ask me... Best, Sandemose
I think he still use D´Addario .013-0.56. He went through all his gear, but it was long time ago and it has changed. He also talked about the reason why he changed tuning: he came to a point when he didnt know what to do. He just wanted to flip the keys and see what would come out of it. Esp. when composing he said that beneath a tuning there always is a song waiting to be found. He learned all the stuff he knew all over again all the scales, chords untill he got bored and changed back again :)
on the record he did this song with the guitar tuned down 1/2 a step to Eb but live he just plays it in standard thats all, he used the alternate tuning for 'a shifting design' but he plays that in standard live too.
i can tell he's just as much a rock guy as he is a jazz guy.. its great! he has an eclectic sound for sure. i think both are incredible to listen to.. allan has such a unique approach, that has insipired many. his very pure legato thing is more snakey and sax-like. *just before the 4min mark in this jam with kurt he gets busts a couple of holdsworth worthy licks. i think someone mentioned a pat metheny/kurt similarity.. i could hear that. what do u mean by 'easier'..

Your "advice" is based on one perticular clip. Check out the intro to "A life unfolds" from the Remedy album (Live at Village Vanguard) and come back and complain later. This is just greatness. The drummer is the shit, Kurt pulls out some really nice licks, and I really dig Kurt's tone. Anyone know what amp he's playing though? Looks like a Deluxe Reverb, but I can't see too clearly on here.
kurt definately is very much bop based. its funny though, i saw him give a lecture and he was saying that his influences starting out were like rush, deep purple, zeppelin, acdc, etc., and then he mentioned hearing spyro gyra for the first time and being blown away and acredited them with getting him into jazz. never woulda guessed. he seemed like an odd chap. anyway hes one of the greats and as far as comparing him to alan IMHO kurt is far easier and more satisfying listening. both are great.
@mzarab i agree dude. love his playing, but sometimes i wish he'd slow down frisell-style and let the audience digest the sheer beauty of his lines. but hes uncompromising. i guess thats a good thing. no telling what will happen as he continues to grow as a player. still a pretty young dude.
also i think allans playing is more modular.. even in the way he talks about it. even though most of his patterns he deals with are 'synthesized' or dealt with in his own way.. i think he deals with things in more of a modal coltrane fashion than in a pureist bebop way.. not to say kurt is purely anything.. but he references bebop in his playing in a more direct way than allan.. whereas i think allan's very singular approach is a result of such thinking rather than referencing it

to my ears, it sounds a lot like the ruetz mod for the rat.. it's easy to find informations on this mod on google and really easy to do the mod too. you just to cut the right lead and you got that sound. then you have to practice a lot because the sound is indeed 90% from your finger :)
