His speaking voice has such a wonderful healing resonance. It belies what might come forth in song. A well spoken, humorous witty and thoughtful artist. Fantastic lyrics and attention to detail on the records. Let’s all greatly appreciate Crash Teat Dummies talents. Cheers!
Yeah, CTD are no one hit wonder. I'll never forget seeing them open for Elvis Costello either at Alpine Valley or the World Music Theater in Illinois. I was in the center in the the first few rows, and after they played GSHF, I screamed "That was awesome", and I swear to God, Brad made eye contact with me and said from the stage "You're not so bad yourself". It's stuff like that that separates the real artists who care about their base from the phonies. I will always love this band.
Hi I saw Talk Talk open for Elvis Costello in the Ottawa Civic Centre, basically a hockey rink. I had no idea who Talk Talk was. So sad about Mark Hollis.
Great song, but this entire album is a master piece, IMHO. I can rarely put this LP on and not listen to it from first to last. When it first came out I listened to this for months. It will always be one of my favorite "not so obviously great" LPs. Cheers!
I love the production on it. The same guy who produced this record also produced Barenaked Ladies' album Gordon. I loooove the way both of those records sound!
I saw the Crash Test Dummies with a buddy of mine at Albert's Hall on Bloor St in Toronto back in the day. A really great performance; these guys were pretty high energy and really cared about their performance and craft. Good memories.
Here it is going on 30 years since that song hit the charts, and it's occupied my mind for the better part of the last two weeks. Just stumbled on this video. Outstanding song; outstanding artists; outstanding band.
Their first album, The Ghosts That Haunt Me, is amazing. If you like this song, you will love all the tracks on it. The harmonies between Ellen Reid and Brad Roberts are absolutely beautiful, especially on Superman's Song.
Perhaps the only song without a real title but with a very special lyrics and sung by a singer with a bass tone in music history. Song and singer absolutely underrated.
It took me 2 years to begin a lifelong bond with CTD, beginning with this song, which i mocked at first, favoring Cranberries and Oasis at the time....then in 1995, i became a lifelong lover of CTD....Thx Brad!!!!
This song was so good it even made Werid Al's parody into a hit. I remember everyone clowning on the song when it first came out but now everyone seems to love it.
Ellen Reid’s choice of notes in her harmony vocals are so *lush sounding* in many of the band's recordings. That sound is what helped set the band apart from all their contemporaries at the time; no other band had a vocal sound like that. Superb. In a similar manner, Jerry Cantrell's harmony vocals on Alice in Chains recordings (note choices) made the songs really stand out.
I have been listening to that song since I was 9 years old, and it always sends shivers down my spine, specially when the last chorus enters. I am 35 now, so, do the math.
Love that song. Love that album. Love the band. Love Ellen Reid. Saw you guys twice....both shows will stay with me for life. Every time I watch Contact, that little snippet of God Shuffled His Feet....always jumps out at me. Ps. I’m in Atlanta.
this is one of the greatest songs by crash test dummies. i been a fan of these guys since 1991 (when superman song came out). never gets old. love this song. i see the video on sting ray retro often. nice to see brad on here. he seems to be doing good. mike CTD fan since 91
Dude is tiny these days!! I was 14 when this album came out and I actually bought it at a shop in Atlanta!! I absolutely loved it and still do!! Iconic music video for this song too
I swear I heard a interview on the radio when this came out that he came up with the MMM MMM MMM while singing in the shower ? Then agian that was like almost 30 years ago now and I was only like 17 at the time so this is testing my memory
Brad, you look old! i remember when this song was starting to get big....I was in line at The Albert in Winnipeg, Crash Test Dummies home town, and mine, popular punk rock venue, Brad Roberts and another band member were in front of me, cover was 3 dollars....guy at the door recognized him, Brad worked at a competeing bar a few years earlier, he said "dude, I hear your song on the radio all the time, congratuatons, you're gonna make it...oh ya 3 bucks." Brad cheacks his pockets, no cash, figured he could get in free...the other guy pulls out a 20, dude at the door gives him 10 bucks in change, realizes his mstake and says " ahh don't worry about it" ....moral of the story, The Albert was so cool that a local rockstar wit ha top 5 single internationally only gets a 50 cent dicount on cover charge.
I saw them in Atlanta for the god shuffled his feet tour... At thew Roxy in buckhead. Brad was goofing and sang "Fuc*ing sh1tty... fuc*ing sh1tty.." to the mmm mmm mmm mmm tune as it started, Hilarious..
Ellen Reid’s contributions to their music were incredible. Her backing vocals stood out on so many songs.
Her voice is amazing. Major crush as a kid. So talented.❤
Big time
His speaking voice has such a wonderful healing resonance. It belies what might come forth in song. A well spoken, humorous witty and thoughtful artist. Fantastic lyrics and attention to detail on the records. Let’s all greatly appreciate Crash Teat Dummies talents. Cheers!
You have to respect the attitude that says - "I'm very grateful for that."
Well played, Crash Test Dummies.
His hair
is turning from black
into bright white
Actually he said that it was from where the cars had smashed it so hard
@Hawk Holloway He's 55 appparently
He said that it was from when his body got ooooooooollllllld......
mmm mmm mmm mmm
:P
Was that a parable or a very subtle joke?
@@ChowKnives *shuffles my feet and glances around*
This song takes me back to my childhood. So glad he decided on keeping the “mmmmm, mmmm” for the chorus 😏👍
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm is an absolute masterpiece
The whole album. In my top 5.
Yep!
The end of the song is a harmonious slice of bliss...
OMG THANK YOU YES! IT KILLS ME 🤩
I always think of Dumb and Dumber when I hear it. Makes me happy.

Hi I saw Talk Talk open for Elvis Costello in the Ottawa Civic Centre, basically a hockey rink. I had no idea who Talk Talk was. So sad about Mark Hollis.
The Crash Test Dummies had so many great songs!🙌
my mom had this album on vinyl. vhs. and cd. bless her heart.
Great song, but this entire album is a master piece, IMHO. I can rarely put this LP on and not listen to it from first to last. When it first came out I listened to this for months. It will always be one of my favorite "not so obviously great" LPs. Cheers!

Agree! Each song has a uniqueness and it’s certainly meant to be listened to as an album. Swimming In Your Ocean is my favorite
LOVE this entire record!
I can't listen to just one song from the album. Even hearing it play here I'm like "well..guess I'm listening to the whole thing now."
100% agree with all of you. This albums production quality is amazing. This album and Lives Throwing Copper are two of my favorite sounding records.
Loved this song, but my favorite was Afternoons and Coffee spoons. I got cancer in 2001, and it described my life during chemo perfectly.
FUKIN' A! I smiled ear-to-ear when I saw that you posted this 2 days ago.
Yay you're still alive! Hope you had a good life.
Research A Beautiful Truth.

They put on a great show in Orlando at the Plaza Live. Band was so humble, hung out after the show and took photos with fans!
I LOVE this song. bought the album back then..enjoyed it immensely.
I saw the Crash Test Dummies with a buddy of mine at Albert's Hall on Bloor St in Toronto back in the day. A really great performance; these guys were pretty high energy and really cared about their performance and craft. Good memories.
I hated this song when it first came out. I was an idiot in 1993. Still am, but my taste in music has vastly improved.
Word Unheard We’ll accept you now. Welcome.
Lmao. I was 23 that year and I hated this song back then too
It was very overplayed. I got really sick of it and still roll my eyes a little when that's all people remember when I mention CTD
Here it is going on 30 years since that song hit the charts, and it's occupied my mind for the better part of the last two weeks. Just stumbled on this video. Outstanding song; outstanding artists; outstanding band.

Was all over the radio in the UK as a kid, still lose myself in that song every now and then.
Perhaps the only song without a real title but with a very special lyrics and sung by a singer with a bass tone in music history. Song and singer absolutely underrated.
not too mention great music video
It took me 2 years to begin a lifelong bond with CTD, beginning with this song, which i mocked at first, favoring Cranberries and Oasis at the time....then in 1995, i became a lifelong lover of CTD....Thx Brad!!!!
This is a brilliant song and it was nothing like any other at the time...thanks. i love it
One of the few perfect songs out there
I'll never forget the day I discovered you can sing this song about anything going on around you
His voice is AWESOME!!! I Love this song!!! I agree, sometimes Less is More!!
Song = total 90's... takes me back and makes me.... feel.... things....
God shuffled his feet was first album I bought with my own money.
was God Shuffled His Feet the first album you bought with your own money?
Good buy, got your money's worth!
My first album bought was The Ghosts That Haunt Me🙂
Loved it when it came out, still love it today... they were very talented...
Love love love Behind the Vinyl keep it up
I recall this video on the days of much music and Toronto rocks
Great band. Their debut album still holds up today!
Good ol' Winnipeg boy. Hello from West K Brad!
This song was so good it even made Werid Al's parody into a hit. I remember everyone clowning on the song when it first came out but now everyone seems to love it.

Can’t believe the Superman song was only big in Canada! Love that song too!
had the pleasure to support CTD in Brisbane Australia,,while they were touring this single Great Times!!!!!!
If this song doesnt make you smile and laugh you're lame. This song is a classic. And it's catchy.
I always loved this song; intellectual, great sound, witty, strange, and cool.
I will always love this song man, afternoons and coffee spoons is a good one also, god shuffled his feet is beautiful.
Incredible voice. Thanks for posting the details.
Love this guy. Classic. I remember the time and that is what music is all about.
Love the smile on his face at the second chorus. Such a proud dad.
Javier Bardem should play him in the crash test dummies movie.
J Wil - Phenomenal comment!!!
He looks like what Robert Downey, Jr. would look like now if he never kicked his heroin habit! (Apologies to Brad).
Might you consider Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
Some songs blow you away when you first hear them and this is one of them.
I have been listening to that song since I was 9 years old, and it always sends shivers down my spine, specially when the last chorus enters. I am 35 now, so, do the math.
Ellen was your keyboardist and a tremendous vocalist, truly amazing voice.
I love this dudes voice!
Love this series! These behind the vinyl moments are fantastic.
Love that song. Love that album. Love the band. Love Ellen Reid. Saw you guys twice....both shows will stay with me for life.
Every time I watch Contact, that little snippet of God Shuffled His Feet....always jumps out at me. Ps. I’m in Atlanta.
I've loved you guys ever since I was in year 2. Got all your CDs and still listen all the time.
Thanks so much for such great stuff.
Everybody together:
"Waaaaaa... haaaaaaaannnn ce"
Brad's got such a great, unique voice.
Both this album and October Project made my springtime & summer when they came out & all that ice & snow was melting.
This album is easily in my top ten of my life. Stay well Brad.
Great interview, great song, great band! I love Brad's humility.
I heard the Weird Al parody before hearing the original. I can’t un-hear Headline News whenever I hear this song.
100% It's better too
They should be put together in one song. I can't listen to one without the other anymore
This song is one of the greatest forever
Love it .... glad it is what it is ....... it made me think..... what more can you ask for!!!!!!!??????
Brad you rock. Love your music! Awesome album
He seems like a very nice person.
Hes Canadian, so there's that :-)
Unas de las voces inimaginable genio mm mm mm uno de mis temas favoritos very good
His voice is astonishing. He could read me to sleep any night!
I loved the crash test dummies and still do, so much more than just that single.
I kind of want a behind the vinyl on that whole album...
Me too.
third!
I love this song. Love.
Hard to find a famous lead singer being that humble
I first heard this song when I watched Dumb and Dumber as a kid
What a lovely man..
I use to party with them before they got big 30 years ago or soo . They were playing the bar scene in Winnipeg when I knew them
Wow I thought of this song earlier, cool song!
I liked it then, and I still like it now.
I think it's powerful because it's like someone tells people that should be heeded, and they say mmmmmm. They don't care .
What a lovely bloke. XXX
Loved the song
SEEMS LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY!
I freakin loved this song! No more words needed because it was what it was...... AMAZING! And yes, less in this case, was more. 😁😁😁😁
Couldn’t stand this song back then. Today I’d rather listen to this than any of the shot they play on the radio.
What are your genres that you like? Indie?
this is one of the greatest songs by crash test dummies. i been a fan of these guys since 1991 (when superman song came out). never gets old. love this song. i see the video on sting ray retro often. nice to see brad on here. he seems to be doing good.
mike
CTD fan since 91
Really one of the most underrated bands there was. So many absolutely great songs.
I saw them on SNL and thought it was a skit.
Dude is tiny these days!! I was 14 when this album came out and I actually bought it at a shop in Atlanta!! I absolutely loved it and still do!! Iconic music video for this song too
Brad never made any money-saving the world from Rap'n'Grunge sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him..
The 60's, and the 90's. 😊
PURE GENIOUS.........
I love Brad Roberts and his solo video tape.
Love how he pauses loooking at me looking at him.
LOL, ..as if!
Thanks for posting!
I adore this band!!!
I swear I heard a interview on the radio when this came out that he came up with the MMM MMM MMM while singing in the shower ? Then agian that was like almost 30 years ago now and I was only like 17 at the time so this is testing my memory
Great song. Mmm part is so original and does evoke author reflection. I liked that album a lot.
If I had his voice I think I would've been able to tell the waiter I got the wrong order
A Legendary Album of all time
Such an under rated band, love and miss these guys, and I'm not just saying that because I'm from Winnipeg 😁👍
Campbell's soup shoulda jumped on board with this song. mmm-mmm mmm-mmm good
Saw the Dummies at The Boulder Theater probably 8 years ago . He doesn't look good here . Such a talent .
INCREDIBLY tragic and heartbreaking song...the children are slaves to the parents when their traits-habits-principles become dogma.
Thank You
Song is a masterpiece just the way it is anything else would have ruined it
My high school days. Sophomore year.
hey - back when artists were nurtured and things like this would bubble to the top.
Brad, you look old! i remember when this song was starting to get big....I was in line at The Albert in Winnipeg, Crash Test Dummies home town, and mine, popular punk rock venue, Brad Roberts and another band member were in front of me, cover was 3 dollars....guy at the door recognized him, Brad worked at a competeing bar a few years earlier, he said "dude, I hear your song on the radio all the time, congratuatons, you're gonna make it...oh ya 3 bucks." Love the song and Super Man song
I saw them in Atlanta for the god shuffled his feet tour... At thew Roxy in buckhead. Brad was goofing and sang "Fuc*ing sh1tty... fuc*ing sh1tty.." to the mmm mmm mmm mmm tune as it started, Hilarious..
