This song in it's simplicity and very stripped down structure just delivers the meaning of everyday problems in schools with our children when they have to adapt what is around them and just try to cope. This song is way deeper than you would think.
i think the opposite to me its actually about child abuse. the title is basically 'dont say anything' the first kid experienced trauma the second had bruises, not birthmarks and the last was a devoutely religious family that made their child so anxious he threw up. The video backs this up
Thank you so much for your reaction! I love Crash Test Dummies. I love story songs, especially those where the message is understated. I think those of us who really enjoy Crash Test Dummies felt like the outsiders and weirdos that your sponsor talks about, and CTD sing about, so it creates a self-reinforcing cycle of underdog-ism. It's nice to hear someone with authority say there's nothing wrong with us. I used to just put their breakthrough album, God Shuffled HIs Feet, on repeat and literally listen to it all day. Every song is a gem, with its own particular twist on their peculiar perspective on life. The album's title song has a line that perfectly captures the band's point of view, when God tells "some people he had made" a story and they don't understand it, and one finally asks him "we're not too clear, about what you just spoke, was that a parable, or a very subtle joke?" That's CTD in a nutshell: Was that a parable, or a very subtle joke? Take some time and listen to the whole album when you get a chance!
Maggie dear. I've watched a ton of your reactions. I'm in Wyoming, 65 years old and enjoy seeing you react to music I've known for decades. I'm sorry someone hurt your heart dear.
I love this whole album. The quirky lyrics threw some people, but the instruments and harmonies are beautiful. Some really deep themes. You should hear the whole thing. 👍
The Crash Test Dummies always had very unique stye to them, I think that is why I was drawn to them. I especially liked "The Superman Song" It came out around the same time the death of superman happened in the dc comic universe. Early 1980's.
I found this song sonically interesting b/c the guy basically violated the tenets of singing soft 'r' sounds. His very hard 'arrrr' sound was really unique to me at the time.
The lead singer’s great low voice would never have flown in the 1980s. It was only the musical climate of the ‘90s that made it possible. Some grunge bands struggled to get signed because their singers didn’t have ultra high voices. Thankfully times changed and this good band got their chance.
Superb piece & so, so well put together - would love to hear it done live with a full orchestra etc. (& if the Coen Bros. ever make a musical called 'No Country for Old Moose', - this guy's a star! : )
I agree with those who said that after watching this, you need to watch the Weird Al parody of it named Headline News, which is just as good if not better.
I loved this the second I heard it. When I finally understood what he was singing about, I loved it more. Still unique. Still moving, to me at least. Understated, yet majestic production. I think some people dislike it because, like many hits, it got overplayed.
I wouldn't say it's a "bad" song, but it's one of those "played to death" songs from that era. It....was....EVERYWHERE. One of those earworm songs that you find yourself unable to stop humming for weeks after you hear it, to the point of frustration.
I offer the wisdom that I have lived my life by,, The earth is my mother and ALL her children my brothers & sisters ❤️ 👧 🌎 👦 ❤ Navajo/Bil Hozhoni (The Happy One)

Once I saw you reacting to Crash Test Dummies, I had to subscribe. This was one of my favorite tunes from the early 90's. You got my thumbs-up. You should check their other tunes. They were all wonderful! Their album, "And God Shuffled His Feet" is just full of wonderful songs. You should react next to "Afternoons & Coffeespoons".
I think the 23rd Mmm is a particularly brillian piece of vocal craftsmanship... Seriously, the poetry between the chorus is certainly thought provoking, and while this won't crack any of my playlists, It is nice once in awhile to take a trip down memory lane, and to try to figure out what they were talking about
maggie I want to hear that song complete-it sounds great as I was the 'odd one' in school too too smart and felt more at home with adults-why when they tested IQ in jr high (not any more) they found my IQ was over 150 (max at time) so your song spoke to me too. I read a powerful book for book report on a book on the Jewish resistance in Poland during WW2 called The Wall by John Hershey-they could not believe I read it (with nightmares to be honest)-odd lilting song but a positive song indeed.
Thank you for your lovely comment. 🤗💖 Hope to see you on our livestream in less than 1 hour as we are doing Anne Murray reactions and many, many more: th-cam.com/users/live41ZNlGfjjcE
@@maggiereneemusic I would highly suggest a song which became a rock classic in Australia. "Evie" (part I, II & III) by Stevie Wright (studio version since most live performance don't carry the full vocal performance of Mr Wright).
I'm not what you'd call a superfan, but I have three of their songs in my favourites playlist, including this one. There are a lot of songs, even by bands I like, that are far more deserving of being on a worst songs list. The lyrics might be trite, and the music doesn't exactly get my heart racing, but Roberts' intriguing voice has always captivated me.
Hey, they're actually not bad sounding at all. I had heard that they weren't worth listening to by someone I trusted to know so avoided them. Changing that.
I didn't know this song was supposed to be a hated song, perhaps because I related to the last kid. It may be that some people are uncomfortable with the subject of the song. If you want another of their songs, that would be Superman's Song.
Just to clarify to those in the comments, the song is on many Worst Songs of the 90s or Worst Songs of All Time list. I absolutely love this song. It's an anthem for all of us who break the mold and let the freak flag fly.
Just to clarify, YOU ARE AN AMAZING HUMAN, Dorky!! 💪🏻😜💪🏻Thank you for your support and stay tuned for snow angels on rug coming your way tomorrow! 🙏💖😜💖🙏
The Eighties and Nineties had many performers I would probably prefer to completely forget about. Crash Test Dummies do definitely not belong into that category, in fact it is sad, they are so seldomly played.
This song is actually quite dark, being about child abuse. I'm not sure about the first kid, but the second was clearly covered with bruises. The third kid had it worse of all, being the child of evangelicals, and being totally controlled. Actually I've always loved this group. I guess haters have to hate.
Wait. This is on a worst songs of all time list? Foolishness! There's 1000's of songs that are way worse. Love the Crash Test Dummies. They had a couple of amazing albums and it doesn't hurt to have another Canadian band be recognized.

I would like for you to react to the song Castle that Burns done by IRIS/ Will Ryan originals who is also known as DAGames❤.
Time now for the Weird Al parody of this called Headline News
I second this option. And thank you for reminding me the name of the song. Lol
my thought as well
A song of tolerance,, compassion,, etc.,, Which is exactly why i will never understand those that hated this song.
Those who hated this song understand it was aimed at them.
This song in it's simplicity and very stripped down structure just delivers the meaning of everyday problems in schools with our children when they have to adapt what is around them and just try to cope. This song is way deeper than you would think.

Weird Al's version of this song is awesome! Called "Headline News"
All based on actual headlines as well
I like their Superman Song.
That was on side 2 of the cassette single, I remember listening to both all the time
Yes - such a beatiful wonderful song
Crash Test Dummies are lyrical geniuses. They songs about anything and everything, including a stapler. Grew up listening to them.
Maggie dear. I've watched a ton of your reactions. I'm in Wyoming, 65 years old and enjoy seeing you react to music I've known for decades.
I'm sorry someone hurt your heart dear.
Saw these guys last night in Leeds, England and they were in fine form. 30th anniversary tour of that album!
he has an amazing voice always liked the crash test dummies
also you have an awesome voice
Loved listening to this whole album back in the mid 90's. Was a nice change of pace from all the grunge that was so popular at the time.
I still listen to this album regularly.
Canadian hidden gems. They came out of retirement recently and played in winnipeg 🎉❤
Another Crash Test Dummies song worth checking out: Superman's Song. 😊
Yes! Great lyrics too!
Always loved this tune, I wasn't aware that it was disliked...
Great band, great song. Saw them on tour for this album in the 90s and Milla Jovovich was the opening act!
The Crash Test Dummies taught me how to measure out afternoons with coffee spoons...and T. S. Elliot. ;)
best track off that album, no doubts
Love this song
Fantastic track, brilliant album.
They got the loudest applause I ever recall a band receiving on a late show when they performed this song on Conan O'Brien
I always liked that song.
This song is beautiful.
I love this whole album. The quirky lyrics threw some people, but the instruments and harmonies are beautiful. Some really deep themes. You should hear the whole thing. 👍

Great song....please, please, react to their "Superman's Song" which IMHO is even better..
I like the song. It has a hypnotic quality to me
Thank you for listening to Crash Test Dummies. Still adore their music. Superman Song might be another great choice. But I love everything they do
Beautiful song! Very talented group.
I’ve never understood the hate for this song.
I think it’s great and has a really heartbreaking message.
I really like crash Test Dummies. They even have a Christmas album that is very weird but good.
An excellent song.

I also PROUDLY have a weird playlist. This is a favorite of mine. My lower register makes it easier for me to sing along as well... Lol
Congrats to 300K!
Beautiful, soulful ad lib you sang at 3:17.
Love these guys
Superb piece & so, so well put together - would love to hear it done live with a full orchestra etc.
(& if the Coen Bros. ever make a musical called 'No Country for Old Moose', - this guy's a star! : )
Another strangely catchy tune is Pepper by Butthole Surfers
I agree with those who said that after watching this, you need to watch the Weird Al parody of it named Headline News, which is just as good if not better.
I've always liked this song. No way it would ever belong on a worst song list.
Fantastic song, news to me that it was on any negative lists, not sure where that idea comes from
I loved this the second I heard it. When I finally understood what he was singing about, I loved it more. Still unique. Still moving, to me at least. Understated, yet majestic production. I think some people dislike it because, like many hits, it got overplayed.
Everyone loves this song. I call the person that made this request a liar, I dare anyone to show me one of these lists they mentioned.
I wouldn't say it's a "bad" song, but it's one of those "played to death" songs from that era. It....was....EVERYWHERE. One of those earworm songs that you find yourself unable to stop humming for weeks after you hear it, to the point of frustration.
Saw them the first time on Saturday night live and thought it was a comedy skit
Such a good song
Please do Weird Al's brilliant parody of this "Headline News" 😁
Such powerful lyric lol problem is with my voice i can sing this and it will sound like him get me in the masked singer 😂
I offer the wisdom that I have lived my life by,, The earth is my mother and ALL her children my brothers & sisters ❤️ 👧 🌎 👦 ❤
Navajo/Bil Hozhoni (The Happy One)
They dropped a hit and bounced, lol. Another great reaction.

the time has come - weird al did a parody of this song !! ... "Weird AL - headline news" .... you'll laugh your cheese muffins off
I know this song more from the Weird Al parody "Headlines" It's a near-perfect copy but it tackled some of the major news stories of the time.
CTD are amazing, it's people who don't know s*** :p
1994! Mtv would air this video 6 or 7 times a day and not to mention the radio lol❤ Nostalgia 😊
Crash test dummies bring back memories.
You should listen to some Great Big Sea next. Maybe the jolly butcher

Greatest song about child abuse I heard up to that point.

Quirky masterpiece. Complete opposite of bad!
All I can hear is the weird Al parody to this now. I have heard it much more and it sounds just like it.
Ever loved them ❤

Please do afternoons and tablespoons by CTD. Their music videos are hilarious and low budject but still fantastic
I think back then they didn’t know where or how to classify this song. It’s funny cause just last week my friend sang this at karaoke. 😂
Great song and great reaction! CTD also did Superman's Song, which could surprise you...

Saddest scene in Dumb and Dumber
I went to the same high school as the lead singer Brad Roberts. No lie.
CTD has a *lot* of really interesting songs.
Super reaction, Maggie.
Imagine how many kids under the age of 25 who would kill themselves if they heard The Residents. Being that this is such a scary song to them.

I remember, even as a kid, wondering wtf was this song lol
A song about the outsider
Hey, they're actually not bad sounding at all. I had heard that they weren't worth listening to by someone I trusted to know so avoided them. Changing that.
💥🇨🇦💥
You should check out Weird Al's parody version of this! ROFL!
Awesome song, i wasn't aware of any hate for it 🤷 it was on the Dumb and dumber soundtrack
Love you Brad
Do Afternoons and Coffeespoons next!

Good video. Good reaction
Fantastic song. Perhaps a little bit beyond some of its listeners..... Because they couldn't relate...or didn't want to..

What?

Worst ever? Whatever.
Song is sad AF. Think most people didn't take it seriously.
Who makes these worst songs lists, obviously not music lovers.😊
Don't let anyone tell you that this isn't a great song.
this song's stupid, always was, lyrics are stupid, but it's catchy :P And it had the bump from "Dumb and Dumber" :P
Love your channel
This song sucks
