    If you can't get the Fiore, just use a bit of both orange and vanilla extracts and if you have it, a splash of rosewater. As for the color, I would mix the glaze first a bit thicker than you want it and then add the color to the desired intensity.

  • @noreenskitchenchannel
    @noreenskitchenchannel  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mine does not turn out tasting bitter. My guess is that you have an aversion to the taste that the corn starch is adding to the mix. Confectioners sugar has corn starch in it. You may want to try making your own 10x sugar by running regular sugar through the blender until it is very powdery. Then make the icing. Otherwise I would try using some organic confectioners sugar. I can't think of one reason that you are experiencing a bitter taste other than that.

  • @noreenskitchenchannel
    @noreenskitchenchannel  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sifting has nothing to do with whether or not the icing has a bitter taste. I don't usually sift my icing sugar. I use a whisk to break up the lumps. The glaze that is used on donuts is commercially made and it is delivered to places like Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme in five gallon buckets. It is full of chemicals and corn syrup. They do not make that with icing sugar. They just empty the bucket. It is extremely sweet. Not like what you will get if you make it from scratch.

    This is the basic of Icings Just wish there was a way to make it with sugar substitute like Stevia etc.? Love the extract ideas..What does the extract you added after the vanilla actually do for the icing besides just taste?
    I couldn't post on your Kitchen Aid rant was very disturbed 😳 to see it break like that..As I just got me one to be able to make breads again since My disease..Hoping mine holds up! I wouldn't be using it everyday Although it will be used as it is my new hands!! Thx Shey

    Hi Noreen I love this recipe and I was wondering if this
    glaze would work for my rolled sugar cookies or not? I
    don't really want to use royal icing due to the raw egg
    whites so I was wondering if this would work as a
    substitute for the raw egg whites? I just want to thank
    you in advance for your quick response. it is very
    much appreciated. I hope that you and your family are
    having a wonderful holiday season. Looking forward to
    hearing back from you.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jill Green no this is not a substitute for royal icing at all. This will make the sugar cookies go very soft. Royal icing will not do that. There is no need to worry about the egg whites in royal icing due to the sugar which actually cook the egg whites in a sense. You can always use pasteurized egg whites from the grocery store if you're worried about salmonella.

    I made glazing for my cookies. Do you know why my glaze does have a nice colour when it dries. It has white patches on it as if it is going to crack. Is that normal or do you have any solution for this. I made pink colour glaze. So when it dried, the white patches was really remarkable. Thank you.
