@@justtrustashI’d like to echo these sentiments. I’ve seen this film at least 50 times… and I’ve never failed to shed tears. George is the heart of the film, and Mary is the Soul. They are incredible. YOUR reaction is one of the BEST. Thank you for the banter, reactions, tears, and laughter you both have given us.
One more thing: since you love this film, here’s some 10s for you: “THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER” Another (younger) JIMMY STEWART film and you’ll love it. GREAT dialog and acting in this awesome romantic comedy. “PLEASANTVILLE” … a BRILLIANT film that starts out a comedy, but quickly turns into a remarkable social commentary with SYMBOLISM galore! You will both ADORE this film. …and finally… “STRANGER THAN FICTION”… again, a brilliant film with top-notch story, acting, and cinematography. A beautiful story you’ll both love. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and a FANTASTIC NEW YEAR!

No professional critic has this on his top ten list, yet how can one make a greater film than this? Capra masterfully brings out the humanity in every character, not a wasted word of dialogue, not a single misstep. Stewart's performance is towering, greater than Oscar-winning Fredric March's in the memorable The Best Years of Our Lives in that same year of 1946.

I kind of agree, but people tend to underrate how complex TOP10 are, they take into account many things, all the history, all the genres and the countries in the world. But It's a Wonderful Life is definitely considered one of the greatest movies of all time, and I mean it for real, not in a rhetoric way (if you talk to the average viewers every good movie they love is among the greatest of all time). I remember it found its way in at least a couple of professional TOP10 I saw, though. It would easily be in my TOP10 of the greatest American movies ever, not even a debate.

Hollywood and the media are run by Satan (the money hungry/power hungry Potter's of this world). Jesus is love. As personified by James Stewart in his role as George Bailey. You cannot expect Satan to applaud Christ. Nor can you expect his minions to applaud true love.
George showed his true love for mankind in the way that he never once thought twice about sacrificing his needs so that he could help others in need.
Philippians 2:3,4 - with humility, considers others as more important than you. Look out not only for your own personal interests, but for the interests of others as well. (verse 5 - Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.)
Potter (Satan will always put himself before others. Even if it means ruining a person's life DELIBERATELY).
This movie will never be #1 in Hollywood because H is run by Satan worshippers. Tell me I'm wrong.

Jimmy Stewart was an honest to God war hero during WWII, but suffered from PTSD following the war. “It’s a Wonderful Life” was his first movie after coming home. When he is melting down at home and at the bar following the loss of the money, you’re not just watching a great actor, but a man letting all his pain and anguish from the war spill out onto the screen.
Jimmy Stewart was a great man, and as close to George Bailey as Hollywood’s ever seen.

What you are missing there is that Stewart was already a well known actor before WW2.
As such promoting visible personailities to higher positions was done as a point of inspiration to the masses in the armed forces.
So while he no doubt did very well, he was also very likely promoted beyond the worth of his actions alone for the sake of morale.

    • @chriscypert8616
      @chriscypert8616 ปีที่แล้ว +41

@@mnomadvfx Hard disagree with your point. Promoting from O-1 to O-5 during WWII was unremarkable, as such a broad and dynamic war made for rapid promotions for many high performers. Hell, Dwight Eisenhower was a mere colonel just months before Pearl Harbor.
What’s remarkable about Jimmy Stewart is that he was nearly alone among big stars to demand combat duty, when his celebrity would have allowed him to duck it. If fact, the War Department preferred to keep stars away from danger specifically because their deaths would be bad for morale.
Many other movie stars and athletes certainly got propoganda promotions, but Jimmy Stewart was a damn fine aviator and leader who earned his rank and the respect and praise of the men who served with and under him.

You were spot on about this film saving people. It came out in 1946, right after WWll, and so many shattered and despairing veterans were struggling to deal with what they’d been through and trying to be normal again. Jimmy Stewart, who played George, had ptsd from his own war experiences, which he drew on in scenes like when he hugged his little son or was praying at the bar. Stewart lived to be an old man, and for the rest of his life, veterans came up to him and thanked him for Its a Wonderful Life. It is still saving people.

What a pleasure to watch and "re-live" this film with you. When the euphoria of the end of WWII died down, the horror of it all began to sink in, and American culture entered its "noir" phase in film. Frank Capra, whose pre-war films had basically been uplifting, "common man" stories (and somewhat 'corny", hence the term "Capra-corn"), was profoundly affected by the war (especially the raw, unedited photos of the concentration camps, many taken by fellow director George Stevens, who was in Europe), and this dark, even tragic atmosphere pervades this, his first post-war picture. Audiences were divided into two camps: 1.) those who fondly recalled his earlier films, who found "Wonderful Life" too dark and depressing and 2.) those whose outlook was already darkened by the war, who had no interest in seeing a film they assumed to be Capra's usual "fluff". So the film did only modest business when it was released, and quickly faded from view. Can you believe it....that such a cinematic masterpiece failed to impress when it was released? But that was the spirit of the times.
Thanks again; your reaction to this film only confirms its power and profound beauty.

At the end she is the one that finds out what’s wrong and starts getting the town together for George. She truly is his other half. Selfless and instinctually just thinks “how can I help” without any regard for herself.

Lionel Barrymore, who was the hated Mr. Potter, was nothing like his character. He was a kind hearted man who was part of the famed Barrymore family. An outstanding Actor. His Sister was Ethel and his Brother was John. He and Jimmy was in an earlier movie worth reacting to, You Can't Take It With You from 1937, also directed by Frank Capra. He is also the Great Uncle of Actress Drew Barrymore. And the bird was a Raven, not a Crow.

What makes this movie so great is that it's not the sugary confection of repute, but a really hard look at what counts in life and what it costs: George suffers greatly for what he stands for--no adventure, no glory--just endless sacrifice in doing his duty. In trading money, power and status for decency, what does he get? Love and true respect. But he had those all along. What he didn't have before his breakdown and intervention is self-respect. He had to go through all this to realize that the egoist's dream is a scam.

With Ash's reaction, I see more than ever a man's story/perspective in this movie. The importance of the father and son relationship, sacrificing for family, big dreams diverted, dealing with failures, questioning your place in the world, sometimes feelings of hopelessness. Also the touching side of how kind people can be, a wife, friends, the community, that can make a real difference for us. Kindness and generosity don't necessarily result in grandiose dividends, but deep and important returns that we don't always recognize. Thank you for seeing and presenting this reaction with such compassionate eyes.

I'm no mind reader and usually pretty stoic - but I think what hit Ash (and so many of us guys) is the idea that we might fail our loved ones who depend on us. That we might not merely have a personal setback; but one which will destroy our ability to provide (or co-provide) a safe/comfortable life for our loved ones...

Hey Alvin. 🙂 I'm no mind-reader either, but, if I read you right, you are focusing on 'our loved ones', whereas Ash was crying already when George was helping folks who were NOT his flesh and blood. I think that played a role as well. And, if you listen to Ash's commentary, you'll note that he sees that George loved and cared for EVERYONE.
Philippians 2:3,4,5 -- with humility, think of others as more important than yourselves. Look out not only for your own interests but also for the interests of others. Have THIS mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
That is what this movie is ultimately about. This very passage. - Thinking of yourself less and others as more important. Did not John the Baptist say, "He must increase, but I must decrease"?
We must allow Christ to live THROUGH us......our actions, our behaviors. Our EVERY thought. (Bring every thought under submission...to the knowledge of the cross - paraphrased - from 2 Corinthians 10:5) Here's what it says in the NASB translation:
5 We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
      Every thought. Every. Single. One.
      Every.
      Single.
      Thought.
Captive to the reality of the cross.

No one is bigger than anyone else. We all matter because we as individuals can make a difference, no matter the situation that comes towards us.
Also, Fun Fact: James Stewart was nervous about the phone kiss scene because it was his first onscreen kiss since his return to Hollywood after the war. Under director Frank Capra's watchful eye, James Stewart filmed the scene in only one unrehearsed take and it worked so well that part of the embrace was cut because it was too passionate to pass the censors.

Just because George is young, handsome & heroic and the focus of the film, they go gaga over him & because uncle Billy's old, ugly, forgetful & not cool, they talk about him like he's trash. I feel, that that uncle Billy's scene of meeting Potter, losing the money, being cross-questioned by George, shows a reflection of the uploader's character.

It's so good to see how it affects new audiences in exactly the same way as it affected me and my own parents when I was a kid in the 1950s, watching it on our old black-and-white TV. I can still remember looking across at my Mum and my Gran at the end, while they were dabbing their eyes with their hankerchiefs. Its appeal is just so timeless and it's every bit as emotional today as it was back in 1946 when it was made. This is one of my all time favorite movies.
A few years ago my family and I were going through a hard time financially. We needed to pay our rent and we didn’t have the money. I didn’t know what to do. And it was the Christmas season.
I took my daughters to the library and before we got out to go in my wife called me and say “I need to play you a voicemail that was left for you”
It was some friends in Minnesota ( I lived in California). They had been at church and they were discussing the movies “It’s A Wonderful Life”
The pastor asked them “Who is the George Bailey in your life?”
As they were driving going home they thought about it “Who is our George Bailey?”… and they both said “Mike!(me) Mike is our George Bailey”
When I heard that I sat there and cried like a baby.
And they sent us some money to help us out- it was enough to meet our need.
Whenever I tell this story or see the movie I tear up and get choked up.
They were the Clarences in my
life at a time I was feeling low and really needed a “Clarence”.😊

The subtleties in this movie are really great. For example, he begs Clarence to get him back to his wife and kids, but it isn't until he officially acknowledges God that the prayer is answered and it starts snowing again - indicating things are back to normal. I like how the movie shows everyone praying at the beginning knowing George is in trouble. And although George is unaware of it, God already has a plan in place to help him in his darkest hour. (It makes me think of Psalm 34:6 in the Bible which says, "This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.") So appropriate for this movie and so appropriate in life.

WOW....absolutely the best reaction to this movie I've ever seen and I've seen alot. Ya'll made this reaction so beautiful, emotional, and even had me in stitches with your comedy and you're not even aware how funny you too are. Thank you two so much for this amazing reaction. Love ya'll. ❤️

Jimmy Stewart genuinely is just one of the greatest of all time, he makes you fall in love with his character in every film he did. As you both said, this is a film that everyone needs to see at some point in their life.

This movie is so great because it slowly, scene by scene, builds a bridge to your heart and reminds you of your own true worth, making you want to be the best version of yourself. That even if you have a mediocre life, you can still accomplish greatness in the lives of others. That thing you cannot put into words to express the emotion that comes from watching this, can only be attributed to the divine spirit within you. It longs for what is better.

This might be my favorite reaction from you guys. “It’s a wonderful life” has always been a Christmas tradition in my family so I honestly forget sometimes that not everyone has seen it. This was the first movie that ever made my father cry and it’s so special to see other people watch it for the first time. This film will always one of the greats

My late father, a big 6' 4" teddy bear, absolutely loved this movie. He was a hard worker, at one point had 3 jobs while I was growing up. He valued friends and family a lot. When he passed away, so many people I knew, but many others I did not, packed the facility, so much so, the doors were open and people were outside as well. Him loving this movie just made sense to me as it matched his personality. It's my favorite as well. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

George Bailey as a character is the perfect example selflessness. Its so hard to see him pushed to the point of contemplating suicide... but it makes the ending that much sweeter. The richest man in town indeed!

This movie is absolutely life changing. We watch it all together on Christmas every year. I loved your reaction because it’s exactly how I felt the first time I watched it. It makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you smile and feel just so full of joy when 15 minutes earlier you’re crying for George’s despair. What a fantastic film.

Mary was always there for George. At the drug store, when he got the news of his father’s death, when the building and loan went broke. Every bad thing George went through, she shared it with him, and never wavered. That is a woman worth giving everything for. She is his reason for living.

You know what's really amazing? This film bombed at the box office and disappeared from sight. It was only in the 80's when the copyright ran out on it, that it started showing up on TV. Because there were no royalties to be paid on it, local stations would play it over and over during the holidays, and people came to love it. Then it came out on home video, and a classic was born. :)

My mother saw this movie at the theater when it was first released. She was only 6 years old then, but it became one of her favorite Christmas movies. In the 70s, when I was a child, it became a Christmas tradition to watch this movie every year. I still do. I lost my mother in 1992, but watching this movie each year is sort of like having her next to me. I'm so happy you both enjoyed it so much. I'm touched by the respect you showed for this masterpiece.

Wow, how have I never watched this movie?? Thank you guys so much for the video, it was beautiful to see your heartfelt reactions. They truly don't make movies like this anymore. We've lost the simple beauty of selflessness, and it doesn't help that there are so few examples of it shown in the media.
I thought it was particularly clever how Clarence saved George's life by jumping into the water himself. I've heard it said that the cure for hopelessness/despair is to try to find ways of helping others. Get out of your own head and your own problems and try to make someone else's life better, which in turn will give you so much joy and purpose.
What a beautiful message this movie has. I can't help but wonder what a positive influence it would be to society if we had more media pushing this kind of selfless positivity.

    • @lisalivingston6473
      @lisalivingston6473 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@manasurge8203 I completely agree with your sentiment, but it's sad that doom, gloom, hate and despair sells. If the media realized that most people reject this, I think we would see a tidal change (and it wouldn't be caused by global warming - LOL)!

Jimmy Stewart (George) was a real life hero of WWII. He flew 20 combat missions over Germany as a B-24 Liberator Bomber pilot.
He eventually became Wing Commander of an entire Division of bombers. He was awarded the Distinguished Flyers Cross (just one medal below the Congressional Medal of Honor).
This was his first movie back after returning from the war.
