  • Eri Nakamura as Cio-Cio San performs Un bel dí vedremo in Madama Butterfly. Find out more: www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-ev...
Puccini's heart-rending opera tells the story of a young geisha who falls in love with an American naval officer.
Moshe Leiser's and Patrice Caurier’s production takes inspiration from 19th century European images of Japan. For this revival, The Royal Opera embarked on a year-long consultation, listening to new voices in its efforts to present a staging respectful both of the original, and to Japan and its culture.
With a score that includes Butterfly’s aria, 'Un bel dì, vedremo' (‘One fine day’) and the Humming Chorus, Giacomo Puccini’s opera is utterly entrancing, and one that you won't want to miss.

This was the first Opera I ever saw, back in 2018, and still remains to be my favorite. The music and the visuals are incredible and simultaneously heartbreaking.

Eri Nakamura's Cio-cio san at Royal Opera House in June 2022 was the best opera experience out of more than 60 operas I have seen mostly at ROH, and some at Paris, Vienna and MET after COVID. Thank you for posting. Unfortunately, it's a bit hard to imagine how good it was from this video, but her voice was truly electrifying and so exceptional.

Wonderfully sung, and acted! Suzuki is silent here but her expressions say more than a thousand words.

I saw Madama Butterfly live in Brussels in 2015 or 2016, I think. It was a fairly modern production, but an incredibly touching one. I ugly cried more than once.
Even more than during La Traviata. Such a beautiful aria... Hope and hopelessness at the same time.

Ms. Nakamura, who performed Chio Chio san, was fantastic. But The singer who recommended Suzuki (sorry, I did not get her name) is incredible just as an actress. I have to cry to see them.

¡Unlike!
