I wish she had gained her confidence when she gave her lessons of Master Class at the Juilliard School in the early 70s.

This is one of her best concerts, and she's in very good voice, but even here you can hear the defects in her voice that overpowered her singing later on, such as 3.33 off-key, 9.45, 10.02 wobbling. I'm not a huge Callas fan, but I can appreciate her gifts in her singing from this period.

Non ricordo quale genio critico disse che la Callas era brava, ma che purtroppo cantò per tutta la sua carriera soltanto la mediocre musica dell'opera italiana. Che monumento allo snobismo asinino. The orchestral introduction of this aria just sort of also functions as a prelude to the last act of the opera, as the character enters a monastery lost in her thoughts to a reprised version of a motif chanted by monks in the opening of the first act. It depends on the context whether an aria gets a long instrumental introduction, no introduction at all, or is introduced by recitative

No. Many of the biggest arias of an opera have a 1 to 4 minute intro of just the instruments, no vocals.
