    Sociology covers a WIDE range of topics, and we did our best to cover a lot of them in Crash Course Sociology! th-cam.com/play/PL8dPuuaLjXtMJ-AfB_7J1538YKWkZAnGA.html (Good for dipping your toes in the sociology waters)

    I’m a current honours sociology major with plans to branch into marketing and I felt that this video nailed it. It’s a very broad and fascinating field full of a lot of specializations. But truthfully, I feel that this video is a little too optimistic with regard to career outcomes with just a BA in sociology especially if you hope to get into fields that aren’t tied to academia and jobs that are somewhere above entry level. Be sure to do your research! It’s still an incredibly fulfilling area of study.

    I’m a music school dropout and sociology was close to me after getting this book that was in a free library bookbox near the college of Charleston area. This was a stepping stone for me to take up sociology to broaden my knowledge besides being a singer. I also love to branch into philosophy.

    I notice no weber, but he never actually was a sociologist, but his work is still important in the symbolic interactionism!
    Currently a sociologist with a MA degree and it has worked for me majoring in sociology. Thought I would be a social worker, but research and understanding the transformation of people within a society sounded better to me. Be sure to see all options when majoring not just sociology, but in other fields, also minor helps!

      Sociology is more about society and the interactions within
      Anthropology can focus on certain cultures and their history

    • @sophiasoso5402
      @sophiasoso5402 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My sociology course does a lot of anthropology and in your last 2 years of uni you can specifically take only anthropology courses if you want. But so much of sociology is interconnected with anthropology but there’s less of a practical aspect in sociology than anthropology has I think.

    • @tazziiieee

      Oh ok cool, imma just study archaeology xD

    • @hssy2jrocker
      @hssy2jrocker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tazziiieee Anthropology has 2 branches:
      1) Physical anthro where you dig up stuff. Its more similar to archaeology than sociology.
      2) Cultural anthro which studies culture & similar to Sociology (culture is an important part of sociology). But there is a huge difference- anthro studies tribal, simple, village societies. sociology studies modern, complex society. But today, tribes are also connected to the modern world due to globalization (world is a global village). So subject matter of cultural anthro and sociology are becoming similar.

    Sociology forgets sexual relationships.
    The Bible doesn't
    Sexual relationship between Man and Woman is crucial when studying humans.

    Would Sociology be a good double or minor for psychology?

    • @VashdaCrash
      @VashdaCrash 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I think psychology answers to the "how" questions and sociology looks more for the "why", so I think yes.

    • @bestLetsplayer
      @bestLetsplayer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There is also the branch of social psychology: studying how the real or perveived presence of people influences our thinking, perception and behavior. E.g. the bystander effect, or cohesion in groups

    • @evilmiscreantgirlfriend
      @evilmiscreantgirlfriend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      i also find that psychology looks at things at an individual level while sociology looks at the bigger picture. my first sociology professor gave a great example which is the case if divorce. a psychologist might ask “why did this couple get a divorce?” when sociologists might ask “why is the divorce rate so high?”

      As someone who is graduating in about a week with a double major in psychology and sociology, the two fields overlap in quite a few places. They are both unique and fascinating on their own. It would depend on your individual interests as Sociology can study just about anything. As other comments have noted, Social Psychology is a good branching point between the two fields. Going off of previous commenters, while both fields may look from the macro (societal/large scale) and the micro (individual/small scale) perspective, they do this in unique ways. Tbh, it just comes down to your unique interests! I entered college thinking I would be a social psychologist and am starting graduate school for sociology in the fall. Hope this helps!

    Why does she change the sound of the last word in every sentence into a "clearing-her-throat sound"? Almost like a vocal fart. Weird.
