Teacher at DD Drums 'David Debono' teaching how to play Detroit Rock City by KISS on drums.
This was a request from a number of students and subscribers.
In this lesson you will learn 4 beats and 7 fills that occur in the song.
If you want to get yourself a copy of the sheet music, you can! It also comes with the bridge section transcribed as well.
Good Luck and all the best fellow drummers!
If you have any request for future lessons or drum covers, please post in comments section below...
The equipment I use:
Drums: The drum kit I am playing here on this video is a Mapex Orion. Its a 6 piece drum kit. Tom sizes 10, 12, 14 and 16.
Cymbals: The cymbals are all Zildjian: A series...
Moongel: I am a fan of moongel on all the drums. It dampens the sound and makes it more punchy... If you have a problem with overtones, definitely give it a try...
Microphones: I use Audix microphones
Bass Drum Pedal: The pedal used here is an Axis longboard.
Recording Software: Cubase Elements 10
Video Editing Software: Sony Vegas Movie Studio 16
Digital Interface: Behringer XR18
Drum Sticks: Pro Mark 5A Nylon Tip
Camera: 2 x Canon 800D. 1 x Sony Handycam

David! As a huge Kiss fan I really appreciated how you concisely picked apart this legendary tune. Young & experienced drummers could benefit from seeing everything broken down to the bones. Killer content brother 🤘
Hi Ricky... Thanks so much for your amazing feedback... Its an honor to hear from you man... Really appreciate it... Hope life is going amazing brother!!
Great lesson! One of my favorite Peter Criss drum parts, this will greatly improve my air drumming .
I own a 4 piece kit, and I love songs that are simple enough with enough complication that I can play and have fun with like Detroit rock city, thanks for this lesson it was great
Awesome... Very appreciated...
Great video,
I'll be using it to learn this song, for sure.
Awesome Abraham!
Great to hear!
So much appreciation for this lesson!
❤❤❤❤❤thanksss
Your welcome!
Motley Crue "Take me too the top" sounds similar too me.... That would be a great lesson... \m/!!!
Thanks
Fantastic video mate
Thank you very much Graeme... All the best!
Peter over any other KISS drummer by a country mile! Carr did rock though!
Completely agree with you!
Great song mate
Sure is Graeme...
@@rockyvsrambo82 awesome

Great vedi david I am silas keep the good work 😄
Hi Silas... Great to hear from you again... Thanks very much!!
Silly question. What is the U after each note? 1 e & u? I am new. thanks for posting this video!
Hello... Great question... Its a way to count the notes 1 eee and ah 2 e and ah 3 e and ah 4 e and ah... I write it like 1 e & u to simplify it... Thanks
Thanks buddy I was just playing this last night and it that double click on the snare I was doing with my foot and it sound like a triple lick on the foot it sounds right the way you're doing it too and I'm sure you're doing it the right way but I like my way to I think it adds to it so does my bass player
Hey James,
If you like the way you play it and so does your bass player then props to you man! Go for it... Sounds really cool the way you explain it so Im sure it sounds great! Keep it up!!
Sounds just like Peter Criss
Thanks Logan...
I thought the main drum part had more of a shuffle with ghost notes like in 100,000 years
Never mind! I typed to soon!
@@benthomas8765 no problem
It sounds like you are using Eric Singer's version and not Peter's version of this song. . .
Which version is your favourite?
@@rockyvsrambo82 i like all three. Peter's bass drum was a solid single kick . Eric Carr used a double bass dual double kick. Eric Singer did the same style of bass kick but not as fast as Carr did. I like them all but you can tell when you hear it who is playing the drums on Detroit Rock City.
I think you're snare fill at the end of the song goes on for too long. It's about half that many notes. See what you think: th-cam.com/video/eNTj4It-D1s/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, i’m searching for the Eric Singer version. Guess he used the double bass.
Yes, there is a few different versions... All the best
Who cares? Peters version is the only one that matters. ;)
@@DavidM-mb1vx actually that's Bob Ezrin Version cause he taught peter how to play it 😝
Almost the same lesson, continue to play the same with your right foot and then play the snare ghost notes with your left foot instead of using the snare.. Hard for a lot of drummers who usually start a double bass fill with their right foot.. Eric Singer is more accomplished musically than people think which is why something that sounds simple to the ear is harder to play than people give him credit for.. He'll be playing triplets in a kiss song without you even knowing
@@DavidM-mb1vx I'd agree if peter could actually explain what it was he was playing but he cant and never will because he was a hack of a musician who mistook luck for talent
Peter criss in my opinion was a terrible drummer for kiss. His big band influences took away from the heavy potential the songs could have had more of.
With all of Peter's success, it's ridiculous for you to criticize him !
Yeah but when Eric Carr and Eric Singer added the double bass drum, it made it so much better. Like on Alive 3
Great lesson! One of my favorite Peter Criss drum parts, this will greatly improve my air drumming .
Hey Barry... Glad to hear you enjoyed the lesson... Love air drumming! Keep it up!!
