Your media outlets are scum and only want to fervently cover the subjects that get them the most possible clicks. I.E, I''ve never even heard of this game or its alleged, political statement until I watched this episode of Jim Sterling, yet I immediately heard of the Last of Us 2 incident because gaming urinalists scrambled to get coverage on it as soon as possible and pushed it as hard as possible to milk it for as much as possible. It has much less to do with the perceived hypocrisy of some opposing, political party and their personal views than you might think and that's frankly kind of the situation of the world as a whole at the moment; on some analogical level, anyway. rafa marafa the reason it matters is because in some countries, people are actively hunted and killed because of their race. Genocide is a real thing that is really happening in real places to real people, and this fiction is reinforcing world views that casts the downtrodden racial minority as the enemy. That does not necessarily lead to violence or violent behavior, but it does dismiss the underlying plight of those marginalized people, and it can reinforce harmful views which excuse real world violence against those people when it does happen in reality.
This reinforcement of violent norms against the weak and the downtrodden is actively polluting modern political discourse. Politics all forms of fiction can shape popular perception of a topic, change the way people vote, alter who they see as friend or foe in the political sphere, and in conjunction with national propaganda can warp peoples perception of reality. It doesn’t necessarily raise the likelihood of something like a shooting, but other crimes, like kneeling on a man’s chest until he suffocates, might be something a player is more likely to excuse if they see it happening to a group of people that they classify as an enemy. That has an observable negative effect on how justice is carried out in the long term.

The part I find especially egregious is that in a kotaku article about this, the game's narrative designer allegedly knew nothing about this aspect of the plot and was confused by the change, since as far as they knew Umbra had always just been a Spectre-inspired secret organization. So it's not just that Ubisoft "didn't mean" to make it political. They actively changed it to add in the aspects in question, then pleaded ignorance. "Oh no! We suddenly retooled the game to reflect actual world events and actual conspiracy theories going on right now. What a funny coincidence!" Just wow.
...could they maybe sell the Rabbids to Nintendo before getting dragged down into the void? I think that would be best for everyone.
And congrats on the title being restored to it's rightful place. Regent sounds way better then interim, though I'd probably still go with the latter since it's just one of my favorite words for some reason. No idea why, just always loved that word.

My heart goes out to them.
Ubisoft daring to imply that people who just want to live their lives without fearing police killing them for no reason and the protesters who support their right to exist as people are actually terrorists, it's so freaking harmful. And then they make money off of that implication. They've never lived in fear of anything. They've never had to do a check-in call on their brother to make sure he's OK after noticing that police presence around his home area was heightened. (Which I just had to do this month! Even though he works for the freaking NAVY!) They've probably never even spoken to a black person before in their lives, but want to take advantage of our pain to make money and shit on us at the same time. Fuck Ubisoft.
