- If you loved the factions in Skyrim then play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion! Oblivion's guilds are known for being incredibly satisfying to play! For the Fighters and Mages Guilds, simply walk into any of the local halls and ask to join. For the Dark Brotherhood, simply play as a murderer and they’ll find you. For the Thieves Guild, read one of the wanted posters in the Imperial City and ask around about the Gray Fox. Get on a beggars good side if you can! There's even an arena you can join in the Imperial city and all factions have ranks to show you exactly where you stand!

In fact this week i just started playing Oblivion for my first time ever and im baffled about how many different mechanics there is and how different the gameplay is from Skyrim, im loving it so much!

@@sleepy6119 Since i heard about the spellcrafting mechanic, another thing that we dont have in Skyrim, I am giving it a go as a High Elf Mage, its been pretty fun and pretty challenging at the same time since i got the Apprentice Birthsign, yesterday i had my first fight with a ramdom will o wisp and that thing gave me + my skeleton + a companion + the emperor bastard son a real challenge 😂
I wish I could replay Oblivion with no knowledge again. Iirc correctly it has some carry over from Morrowind's leveling system. So be careful how you level, and it can heavily impact late game.

They did an amazing job with guild in Oblivion. You neede to rank up to become the head of the guild, not just handed over to you
I would say in Skyrim the theirs guild you have to earn your way, being as you can play the quest line if it but you don’t actually get recognized as leader until you make them a force to be reckoned with once again
But other than that it’s a hard argument to make for the other guilds
Seriously, and all the achievements are worthy of the new leader. You are not important because fate or destiny said so. You are important because you prove yourself worthwhile!

You can become the archmage without knowing any magic and the head of the Fighters guild as a stealthy assassin. You actually can become the leader of everything without ever making a single decision rather than just blindly do what you are told before you achieve such a high rank.

@@silverblade357 the problem isn't necessarily the achievements but how fast the guilds are to trust you especially the companions and the dark brotherhood
in the dark brotherhood you just do a bunch of random contracts and five minutes later astrid completely trusts you and lets you in on a massive plot to kill the emperor simply because you're "Le special dragonborn" idk about you but if I'm running a guild of crazy assassins I'd be very cautious of the dude who regularly slays dragons
There is no nostalgia like beating and getting every achievement for Oblivion on the 360 before Skyrim even came out. Good times, the best of times honestly

Oblivion was just a magical experience.
Sneaking around at night. Coastline beside me. Stars overhead. Auriels Ascension starts up. Irl my eyes widen, jaw slacks and hair stands on end… just incredible.

Just started playing oblivion again after years yesterday
Any of my worries about it feeling dated or janky went out the window once I got to take in the world after leaving the sewers again for the first time. If anything, the jank just adds charm and doesn’t disrupt real gameplay. Possibly the best ES game to date.
Id definetly say the best bethesda game as a whole.
I love playing oblivion. I went back to it when i got wanted a change from skyrim back in the day. I really wish this would have an animation remaster for current gen and next gen

The only down side (And someone at Bethesda did point this out before the launch of Skyrim) is that you can become head of all the guilds at once.
A quick way to explain this from an in-world perspective could be that the 'evil' factions(Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild) ask players to use stealth tactics to complete the quests, so no one would know it was them unless they were seen commiting those crimes, and having one of the 'good' factions(fighters guild and mages guild) as thier main work, while they work in the other in their free time.
This doesn't make much sense, but it would explain why players aren't kicked from a guild by doing something in another guild, and how they can be the master of all those guilds at the same time

The thieves guild of oblivion was bar none the best faction quest I've played in any elder scrolls

Morrowind's was pretty great too, and in that game the quest lines from one guild would impact another guild (like with the Fighters Guild and Thieves Guild)
On top of all that you had the interplay and rivalry of the Great Houses. Hlaalu was friendly with almost everyone. Redoran respected the Legion , Fighters guild, but all native Dunmer institutions. Telvanni was friends with no one, but you could kicked out and readmitted multiple times.
I love Oblivion. Once I get a gaming computer I'll bring playing Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Arena
Morrowind has the best story, but I do want to give you a heads-up that doing all the guild quests is somewhat difficult without a guide. The Fighters and Thieves Guilds are exclusive unless you play in a particular way.
Those titles will run on a potato. No gaming pc required 😂

@@LastOptionPils I think those and the Great Houses are the only ones that conflict with each other. They should also be prepared for spell failures, and missing a ton if their respective skill is below 30.
You could probably play morrowind on a tesla car computer.
Oblivion’s factions were, and are, the biggest loss in Skyrim. So much obviously wasted opportunity. If it hadn’t been for Oblivion’s factions and how engaging and integrated they were to so much of the game I probably never would have made it to Skyrim. It is also why I love the mod that adds the Dragonborn museum and it’s guild. I’d love to have more mods like that.

I aint saying skyrims graphics are worse than oblivion, but i feel like oblivions graphics add to its charm and i enjoy the outdated graphics and jankiness.
@@crunchberries6328 Thank you! Not to get too into it, but I feel like the vibrant color palette used in Oblivion and music just added to the ambience and atmosphere for it to be a fantasy based game.
Oblivion in my opinion is the better game. I was introduced to ES by playing Skyrim. Oblivion is a little out of date as far as graphics. After you get past the graphics, it’s an amazing game. I’m playing it literally right now. 😂😂
I really love Oblivion, I love the atmosphere, I love the quests (best in the entire series). But I really can't consider it a better game, simply because it sucks so badly at being a game.
The leveling mechanics and level scaling are atrocious, they made me drop the game in the middle of playing the Shivering Isles DLC.
Then my game DVD stopped working, so I was hard-blocked from finishing the game, and I missed out on some of its best content. I really need to buy it again on GOG or Steam and replay it with mods.

As someone that's played Oblivion on and off for over a decade, I approve.
To join the Thieves Guild, serving time in jail for stealing gives an immediate invitation into the guild.
I played Morrowind (which is still one of my favorite games) when it came out and when the trailer for Oblivion released, showcasing arrows sticking to a bucket and being able to retrieve them, I lost my shit.
Oblivion was so much better than skyrim imo. I truly love this game. It holds a special place in my heart.
I used to play oblivion over a few hundred times before playing Skyrim over a few hundred times, I looked at Skyrim for the first time and thought "That doesn't seem as fun" but the coaster ride changed my mind.
This is to this day, the best Betheseda game ever made. I put my life and soul into playing this game. I am actually replaying now as we speak on xbox series X especially now that I understand how to max level. So much fun
I settled for Skyrims guilds after bathing in the luxury of Oblivions guilds.
I hate that to this day I still haven't finished the oblivion thieves guild
You need it, its a very nice guild to finish. Very satisfying final mission.
And you get the grey fox mask that allows you to commit any crime without getting punished, if you escape the guards and take the mask off they will never know it was you
Simply being able to ride a horse alongside another npc in oblivion.
The thieves guild was one of my faves. The ending with the gray fox was pretty good.
Oblivion is unapologetically hilarious. And I can't count how many times I've fallen asleep just standing idle in the middle of a random location. Such memories.
after the main questline, i recommend playing all of the missions to get the guildmaster rank for every guild. it's so satisfying, fun and memorable. you'll also be remembered as the most superior rank when talking to other guild members. it feels quite nice to see your progress being acknowledged.

The irony, he killed the dark elf Alval Uvani to join the dark brotherhood, he's a member of the black hand
It's nice because there's a lot of side quests and guild work before and during the main guild quest making it feel like a real organization
Just make sure you finish the Mages Guild before the Thieves' Guild. You'll find out why. XD
Whodunit remains one of the best RPG quests in gaming

I have mastered every faction in Oblivion and became the champion of every quest line and DLC and it was one of the greatest experiences of a video game I've ever had. I plan on returning to the land of Cyrodiil when time permits.

@@DylanShipley-cb9hrJust have fun honestly. Exploration and discovery are what Oblivion does best; some areas don't even make full sense unless you've reached a certain level when you stumble across them, at which point a special enemy or special loot will have a chance to spawn.
Get lost in the beauty of the world and discover at your own pace - Oblivion has SO much hidden stuff to find and to do.

I heard being a mage is one of the best advantages and to not try and even your skills up, (just boost 3 main ones you want) Which I didn't follow so I hope I didn't butcher my guy already -_- he's a 1 handed light armor fighter but I been tryna get his magika up since someone said spells and mage builds are best

Just finally completed all the Oblivion factions for this first time this week, actually. Dark Brotherhood was amazing, thieves guild was also awesome, mages guild was pretty good, fighters guild was admittedly kinda mid. Arena was great though!
I started oblivion, loved it abosolutely wonderfull now im playing skyrim and tbh i like skyrim because of the dynamic quests not pre scripted ones

As a heads up to anyone new going into oblvion, look up levelling. It's a fun game but you can screw yourself id you play it like a normal game
I got to like level 20 something my first playthrough _then_ learned about sleeping.
Granted I ignored the main story up to this point so it wasnt an issue, but I couldn't figure out why in all my playing I never fought stronger than Dremora Churls

It’s also good to know what build you want to do from the start. I had a tough time doing the mages guild questline because I made a character that had very little magicka and tried focusing on a warrior build. I made another character and ran through the questline easily. Races, skills, and levels all impact what your character can do as opposed to skyrim where each race gets a little unique perk but nothing else to seperate them.
Lol been playing this game again. Just miss it so much! 😆💗

Been playing since 1998. Oblivion indeed had the Most "Soul" and for the factions you actually Need to have the required skillsets unlike in Skyrim, where you can Join the mages guild, never using Magic.
The factions system is also really nice, Ranking Up and so we have to Talk about Spell-crafting? That was the GOAT

Oh wow the rank system is awesome, I didn't even know that! Why did they trim down on so many features in skyrim is still a mystery to me. Oblivion feels so much better quest and gameplay wise.
Streamlining to draw in more casual crowd. You make a pretty world then take away anything confusing or that requires effort and serve the story up on a silver platter - a completely safe AAA title.

Having a screen that displayed all factions you were part of, along with your rank and members referring to you by your rank made Oblivion feel very deep and immersive. It's a shame that they got rid of it in Skyrim and future Starfield. It added so much to the experience.

There are even some factions that just give you a membership, such as the Order of the Virtuous Blood
Dark brotherhood, thieves guild are GOATED. I know alot of people disliked the fighters and mages guild but I enjoyed both just as much as the other 2 factions. Arena is short but sweet. Was very dissapoited one of the biggest things.scrapped from skyrim was an Arena faction.
The quests in oblivion are much more unique than skyrim. most major side quests and faction quest progressions feel more fun and rewarding and engaging - skyrim sometimes felt repetitive, alot of from a to fetch b to return to c whilst oblivion had some extra layers sprinkled in to keep us enjoying each moment quest to quest

For those of you who want to join the Dark Brotherhood without actually killing. For roll playing purposes, do the arena and talk to The Gray Prince before completing the arena. Do the quest he gives you. Then finish The Arena. When you finish the quest line it technically counts as murder but without the sneaking around and struggling to kill someone and getting it reported.
Bro I LOVED the arena and the fact that the one guy ( I haven't played in years) was a vampire and you had to go through a quest to have him make you kill him instead of having to die again and again because that guy is fricking annoying otherwise
