  • The Beatles recording session for A Day in the Life, EMI Studios - January 19, 1967
    For this session only it had the working title In The Life Of..., and the group began by rehearsing with John Lennon on piano, Paul McCartney playing an organ, George Harrison on an acoustic guitar and Ringo Starr playing congas. These rehearsals were recorded but later wiped.

      Mr LennonAxl and after this period the music was very bad... some really good but most garbage...and Lennon knew it !! by 68' they were no longer relevant..the Woodstock generation took over...and the Beatles had NOTHING to do with the Woodstock generation !! they were rockers ! born and bred in Liverpool ....

      Patricia Gullickson all you need is love was the anthem for the summer of love...the white album was great also abbey road ...let it be was garbage but blame spector and the beatles were invited to play in woodstock but at the time of the gig they were not longer a band...so the beatles were relevant since the 62-71 and the last two no.1 from the let it be confirm that...

      Smash Runner , I agree totally with you, except that let it be could have been a lot better if it there had been more interest from John ,George and Ringo. I always felt it went like this; after touring ended I believe the band could have broke up then , the summer of love arrived in England and the Beatles were all in , but not as the fabs, in order for the Beatles to continue, Paul had to convince the other's that they could create new identities with Sgt. Peppers which became a smash .Lennon became overly excited with tripping and became less interested,but went along with magical mystery tour for the fun . Brian Epstein had died and they wanted take control of things ( first mistake ) in retrospect it seems Paul was taking control but I believe he was keeping the band together, Lennon's input was thinning,his one shining moment being I am the walrus. After India they came home with a boatload of songs ,Lennon's not tripping,and now he's with Yoko he's back to writing but things are different,maybe they're to busy with 30 or so songs or Lennon is wanting some control again,but things have changed,more tension in the air ,but they do well enough,maybe the white album was a double was to hurry fulfilling their contract (could have done without a few and made an excellent single album ) . Then work begins on let it be and only Paul seems interested in being " the Beatles " . John and Yoko are into their peace thing and whatever ,George was very happy being off with Eric Clapton, Bonnie and Delaney and friends, and hanging out with the band and Dylan at the big pink,Ringo was making movies. But the Beatles were hanging by a thread.Once again Paul to the rescue,come on lad's do it for the band ,but not much interest reviving a sinking ship when they were happier apart.the whole thing was put on hold .After awhile they decided that they may try to give it one last attempt at a good Beatle product ,Abbey road proved to be their swan song with the help of George Martin who was not invited to participate in Let it be .Then perhaps to meet contractual agreements they had a meeting and decided to let someone else deal with it ,in comes Phil Spector ,pulls together some rehashed material and over produces everything .There you have it the Beatles could have broke up after pepper (On top ) and potentially had four great

    The alarm featured here (3:30) wasn't there to keep track of the time. It was used as tool for the recording of this song. Mel Evans (the Beatles roadie) used it to alert them of the transition in this song from John's " I read the news today oh, boy!" to Paul's "woke up, fell out of bed" piece. If listen closely to song during the first orchestral rush that separates the two pieces, you can actually hear Evans counting, and it's ended by the ringing of the alarm clock.

    Love these photos. I wonder however if it was A Day in the Life in these photos since I don't think Ringo has bongos on the track and it doesn't sound like Johns piano playing on the track and there doesn't seem to be two piano tracks on the final version.

    • @westfield90
      @westfield90 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stand corrected. Seems like it was this line up in the early takes and then once they had the song pinned down, John went to acoustic guitar and Paul played the piano.
