If you asked John to play an E, C & D chord, for example, he'd be able to play it straight off!! Nobody told em what to play, they taught them about the recording studio.😁👍👍👍👍💕💓💖

    There's a moment somewhere in the past where you thought 'I know, I'll....' and that moment must have been coupled with a distinct smattering of confidence that you could actually pull it off. To be the person that can take thoughts such as those and have gravitas on this scale alone - before even pushing a key or strumming a single chord, makes you a frickin genius. What a wonderful world you must live in. Bravo dude.

    I think I had that record in my hand within about 48 hours of its release to the public, and I remember putting it on my very inexpensive turntable in my bedroom at the age of 14, and I was in awe that this was the same bunch that had appeared on Ed Sullivan three years earlier in February of 1964. I was mesmerized. Hearing you re-create that song brought me right back to those moments…. so thank you.

      Me too, but for different reasons. When I was around 10, I lived on the first floor of a mid rise apartment complex with buildings that faced each other. I was woken up one night by a sound that I can only describe as a 'foomf' sound, heavy and muted. I looked out my window but didn't see anything so I went back to sleep. When I got up for school in the morning there were police outside of the apartment milling around. My neighbor had went into his car late that night, wrapped wet bluejeans around his head to muffle the sound and shot himself with a shotgun.

    • @robertfoshizzle
      @robertfoshizzle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I've heard plenty of attempts to cover this song, and while many of them are excellent (including this one -- the singer was great, and David's playing was spot on), no one can quite nail that weary, sullen tone like John did. Probably the closest I've seen is Chris Cornell's version of this song. While he doesn't sound much like John, he "felt" the song better than anyone I've ever seen play it other than John himself. It's sad, but beautiful in a way, that you almost have to be a tortured soul to get certain songs across in that way.

    This video is so great, not because the finished version is good, but because compared to the actual recording, it's bad; what you're demonstrating brilliantly is that EVEN IF you and your friends had magically come up with this amazing composition first, it takes so much beyond the composition to pull off the magic the Beatles pulled off. Tangibles like recording techniques, but also intangibles like band chemistry, the sound of THEM, the mistakes, the little moments, all add up to what's one of the most magical songs ever, one that no one else could have made even if they tried.

    My own first hearing of this back in 1967 was one of being rendered speechless. Revolver had been challenging, Strawberry Fields a harbinger but Sgt Pepper was just so rich, so full of ideas both musically and lyrically that it was (to borrow a George phrase) all too much. Music was never the same again and arguably this was true on a much` broader stage as well.

So my friend John and I skipped lunch, took our mufti clothes and changed in the hedge (uniforms in town on a Thursday would be too dangerous), raced into town, got the record, came back, changed and went to the 2:40 class, having missed only Maths.

    Paul actually wrote the music to the song, it was something he had come up with that had no melody or lyrics, which is why Paul played the piano on the song. John's melody of the verse and lyrics are what really elevate the song and probably make this the best cowritten song in the Beatles catalog. Paul also wrote the Bridge tune and lyrics.

    My favorite Beatles song because of the 2 amazing melodies by Paul and John with the arrangement. Nice Job! Every time I thought I thought I heard something inaccurate I went to the original to compare but it was only a few times. The voice and tone is very good. The only things I would recommend is 1. add a little more reverb to the drums. 2. Raise the piano and lower the bass a little in the beginning. 3. Increase the sound of a trombone at the ending symphony parts. For example , if you listen to Wagner's Tannhauser at the very end, that use of Trombone is what you want for those powerful brass symphony parts.
    I just realized something else. At the very end where you are counting and you say "four" I heard that in the original and thought someone was saying "Paul" but they were actually saying the count. Thanks for that interesting background story on the counting.

    I don't know why but I have always found the part where they are counting out bars before the transition cool. it just helps to build tension. This song really is a masterpiece. There are a lot of other Beatles songs that I consider my favourites but it is very difficult to argue against this being the objective best, it just has so many amazing groundbreaking ideas all in the one song.

  • @thedanielnatalshow3465
    @thedanielnatalshow3465 ปีที่แล้ว

    In your music theory behind "A Day in the Life," note how the song has an unusual structure insofar as it's based on 5's. Most songs are based on 4 lines, rhymed. ABAB structure. In "A Day in the Life," each stanza actually has FIVE lines. "I read the news today, oh boy/about a lucky man who made the grade/A crowd of people stood and stared/They'd seen his face before/Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords." That's 5 lines. McCartney's bridge also has five lines: "Woke up, fell out of bed/Dragged a comb across my head/Found my way downstairs and had a cup/And looking up/ I noticed I was late". Likewise the horns after John's haunting "Ahhhh-ahhhh-ahhh segment" (where he sounds like he's wailing in the void) are composed of five booming notes. . . . The 5-based structure of the song is only one of the many anomalies about it. But I've never heard anyone draw attention to it. In physics in Antiquity, there were four elements: air, fire, water and earth. It wasn't until alchemy that a fifth element was added--the quintessence.

    This is great! Well done. One small fact left out is the orchestra were aloud to play at their own speed which also is why it's impossible to recreate. In other words one player can get to E with in two bars and just keep playing it and someone else may have taken all 24 bars to get there. Multiply that by 40 players. Paul said the strings tended to stay nsync and brass did whatever they wanted.

    Interesting that, in the orchestral bridge between Paul's bit and the last verse, you've got 'John' doing the AHHHs. Which, of course, it is.

    That's gave me the feels. To watch each instrument being played really helps to understand their genius. Well done 🐛
