I love that this family has allowed this bird to enrich their lives by opening themselves up and showing love and making him a part of their everyday lives. The young man seems especially caring and the bird picked up on that right away, what fun you have let into your lives.
I can imagine that having to get a bit of privacy in your room just for a few minutes and then having that laugh and the tapping on the door could be a crazy time for all. There's never a dull moment with a cockatoo it seems!. Sweet story...it never ceases to amaze me how smart birds are and how utterly nuts they can be with their antics and mimicry.
I hope the son realizes that when he moves into his own place, most likely the bird is coming with him. Their bond is too strong, could create health issues for the bird if they're separated too long.

Cockatoos communicate with the rest of the flock which can be up to 50 birds, to know where everyone is. It happens over my place everyday, it’s a cute video, but honestly I hate to see them in captivity, they also mourn for people when they are rehomed or of the person dies, also birds wings should not be clipped it’s barbaric.

Oh that is so sweet! This bird has the best life ever! What a fun family. She is enjoying her game with you, as her intelligence is being used, and her need to play. It reminds us of the time when we had a German Shepherd back in India, and Sally would love to play hide and seek with us. We would keep her upstairs, then run downstairs, hide in spots, then have her track us down. We would yell 'Sallyeeee, yoo hoo!' and my mom would release her upstairs and she would bound down the stairs and then start sniffing the closets, laundry hamper, behind doors, under beds, till she found each of us 3 kids. And her tail would be whipping around like a flag in high wind. What a great dog! Of course the bird has an evil cackle which just adds to the fun factor endlessly!

She basically sees him as her mate, they have the intelligence of up to a 6yr old. They screech because that’s how they communicate with the rest of the flock to know where everyone is. It happens daily over my place with flocks as big as 50 cockatoos.
What a wonderful relationship this boy and parrot have together. It is not unusual for parrots to bond with only one member of the family. We do not know the age of this cockatoo. Your son can be approaching his senior years and this bird may be still around, an amazing thought.

Birds are so awesome. Our Tango does this with my son. They're like a forever toddler. The things birds do and say are just hilarious. And they know when you are sad or not feeling well. Not everyone has what it takes to be a parrot owner. I'm so glad his forever home is with this family.

It takes a certain type of human to bond with a Cockatoo! Cockatoo are very loud intelligent and high energy. They need lots of attention for them to be mentally healthy! These people are the best cockatoo family!

There is nothing quite like a happy yellow-crested cockie for pure joy (although a happily braying donkey is definitely on-par for 😂!).
