Thanks, so much, Del and crew for the wonderful music. I discovered you all late in life...but today 01/21/23 in my opinion, you're at the top of my list of all Blue Grass bands!
Many years ago, I had the honor to spend a bit of time with these guys. It was back when Mike Bubb was playing bass for them. I spent most of the time talking with Del, Ronnie, and Jason Carter. They sincerely are as kind and decent as they appear. Class act all the way. We were backstage and a lady had sent back an old antique lampshade with Autographs from every bluegrass picker you could image - Monroe, Carter Stanley, and soo many more! We sat back there just going through all of them for a good hour. We talked about the road, picking, family, different areas of the country we had visited and some of the pickers that came out my home. I have met many well known musicians but these fellas will always stand out!
I know I am years late but just recently found the Del McCoury band, what fantastic music, skill and characters, sat at home on this stupid lock down, Del and the boy's are keeping me on the safe side of sensible
I doubt you find anyone anywhere doing anything who would seem to be having as much fun as Del is having. I think he'd be a great guy to meet. And he's great to listen to on his XM radio show with his funny quips.
Thank you so much. The Del McCoury band still has THAT sound, taken to the highest level. I rarely enjoy 'traditional' bluegrass to such a great extent. Sad to see he's having some memory difficulty, but his rhythm guitar is still so powerful and his voice so rich.
I'd heard them before, but seeing them for the first time this past weekend at Springfest TWICE was an absolute treat. They sounded heavenly in that Amphitheater. I will be wearing a suit next time I see them.
I see some folks comments as to the sound- folks this is the way Bluegrass is performed! You have consummate Pro's who sing with harmonious purity comes from many Decades of performances outdoors at concerts staged all over; sometimes the sounds not so clear but they are so tight just bend your ear and I think you'll hear the musical memories ingrained from so many tours /performances...and you're damned right they have an inprompto good time;not trying to stick to worn out lines or stories-rather they just are so comfortable they just be themselves and since each one is a genuine class act they just let 'er rip! That's what 1st caught my attention when just a young man in the 60's,at the 1st bluegrass festival I got hooked;Doc;Vassar and Scruggs;Osborne Bro's who's high lonesome harmonies got the wax out of my ears;too many names to list but the best had a rapore that was infectious- I had found my Music-and I've adapted to the many changes;genres and meshing new styles;new instruments new takes and interpretation of old classics;and I've watched the C ircle become inclusive of multiple styles;groups that have worked with the old-timers-both becoming the better for adapting, changing yet holding to the heart and soul of the Mtn's and streams and Hollers where the Irish/welsh old world found a new home lo the many years ago-I'm so glad and grateful for the spread across the country of music that's real as Moonshine;old as the Appalachian Hills, pure as Country water; no matter where I go it always takes me home!
hi stranger, if you’re reading this. i just wanna tell you that you matter and you’re important ❤ i know you are tired,, but please never give up. okay? i believe you can do it :) and i’m proud of you!! even though i dont know you. always think positive and ignore the negativity that surrounds you. focus on positive side and the things that makes you happy. you are doing great hun. 😙 let’s keep going. we can get through this together. you are worth it. sending virtual hugs to everyone 🥰🤗have a good sleep tonight. tell your loved ones that you love them. sweet dreams my dear~ always smile 😊
Well anytime you get to hear true back home hillbilly music ..not this rock a billy stuff they have out now that is far from the roots of true country music then it is a good thing. Be it off key or whatever as long as its back home and from the heart its the best!!
Whats that suppoed to mean this is bluegrass at its finest ilove lester and monroe and alison and del never gets boring. Keeps me on my toes just like marty stuart
+TheMemphisSlim Del does not use monitors. The bass player has an in ear but everyone else relies off the stage sound and they sing so close together they can hear each other naturally. They are one of the few bands that still do it this way but they do it well.
As to the sound on this clip... The single mic technique is NOT the reason it isn't so great. Given the crowd sounds, it appears that the sound track is just a room mic. It might be that there wasn't a recording from the mixing board, but that's what I would use, given the otherwise excellent video. In fact, I'm guessing that the sound was just captured from one of the video cameras. Not optimal, but maybe that's all that they had access to. You can hear on other TH-cam videos that the single mic can work just fine, quality wise.
+morenoise Single mic gives a great sound for these instruments, they are all built to sound great together acousticly. The technique they all use moving towards and away from the mic depending on what sound they are after or who is playing a solo is also a part of a genuine bluegrass sound, and these guys are just as good at that as they are at playing their instruments. There is also a choreographic aspect. These guys use a few mics, but the idea is the same. As few mics as is practical is the best, IMHO. These guys use some really great equipment, and the sound guy does his job you can hear that (makes a huge difference). The sound at the event was probably super great. Whatever this is recorded on made a shitty recording of a great sound.
Great band but useless at using microphones. This "one mike" style might have worked on radio in the 1940's where that is they had but on a big outdoor concert stage it flops. The vocals are so way back they might as well be in the audience. What about using a modern way to present this excellent band in a more audible way?
Couldn't disagree more, I have a recording of this band using only one microphone. Their mic dance is an integral part of their sound and style. The solos are always present and their harmonies are well balanced, largely due to the fact that the band is used to balancing themselves, If you don't like their mix, I'd blame the sound man before I'd blame the equipment.
Brian made a spot on assessment. If you want to see the same guys, minus Del, though often with guests, using modern mic techniques, then you should check out their other band, The Travelin' McCourys. Look up "Delfest late night 2014" where they play with Jeff Austin, formerly of Yonder Mountain String Band. I was there for that one. Good times. With Keller Williams is also good.
Thanks, so much, Del and crew for the wonderful music. I discovered you all late in life...but today 01/21/23 in my opinion, you're at the top of my list of all Blue Grass bands!
So many negative comments. Just sit back and enjoy the music and be thankful for the guy who took the time to record this great performance.

Absolutely, I got to speak with Ronnie quite a bit at the Delaware Valley Fest back round 2000. Real great guys as most all are in Bluegrass!
I know I am years late but just recently found the Del McCoury band, what fantastic music, skill and characters, sat at home on this stupid lock down, Del and the boy's are keeping me on the safe side of sensible
Del McCoury!!!! The nicest & most cordial musician I've ever met.
Favorite bluegrass band!!!!!!!!
Thanks a million! Had a great time as usual at my 5th DelFest. Salute to you and everyone else that tapes and videos for us to enjoy later.
I doubt you find anyone anywhere doing anything who would seem to be having as much fun as Del is having. I think he'd be a great guy to meet. And he's great to listen to on his XM radio show with his funny quips.
So wonderful bobby got to join del

I'm 16 and I would have trouble with remembering all those lyrics😂 and yes indeed his rhythm guitar is the best and his voice awesome
God Bless these guys
Wish I could have been there.

These guys are soooo good and look like they're having a great time!
my favorite b.g. band.
I'd heard them before, but seeing them for the first time this past weekend at Springfest TWICE was an absolute treat. They sounded heavenly in that Amphitheater. I will be wearing a suit next time I see them.

The torch has passed and you are watching it. These guys are the reigning kings, although the Bluegrass Brothers could be next in line.
Ah, I was at DelFest this year. Thanks for posting :) I remember so much of this show. It was very memorable ^_^
As a country we could use more families like this one!
Thanks for posting. Great set!
You are very welcome
Jason is the best out there no disrespect to Jeremy Garrett Darol Angor both are incredible,Ive seen them all and Mr.Carter just by a hair.
wow that old Martin does have a terrific sound.
i wish i was in this band
opening song by the great Richard Thompson!
No question about it
#8 is This Kind of Life
the best
The first question mark is shuckin the Corn for those who don't know.
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!!
That fiddle player is the one who makes the band work.
The son is good mind
+gabaunion -Bobby Hicks is a superlative fiddler; played with most all top bands...
Ya seen this?

does anyone know the name of the breakdown before high on the mountain??
Shuckin' The Corn
What happened to the sound? The announcer was louder than they were. It was still awesome. Where is this fest held?
Cumberland, MD
Does anyone perchance know the title of the first song?
Guys don't forget this is Bluegrass not a rock concert....
IT'S LIKE COUNTRY HEAVY METAL
Whats that suppoed to mean this is bluegrass at its finest ilove lester and monroe and alison and del never gets boring. Keeps me on my toes just like marty stuart
where is this
Sound is not good, at least coming through You-tube.. where are their monitors, I don't see them wearing ear plugs
TheMemphisSlim they are not plugged in, this is traditional bluegrass style of playing. "single mic" or in this case multiple mics
You have to have a monitor, even with single mic, on stage or you can't hear yourself and others singing for harmony
Well do you see any? Hah
Its a recording that's why the levels are not great
+TheMemphisSlim Del does not use monitors. The bass player has an in ear but everyone else relies off the stage sound and they sing so close together they can hear each other naturally. They are one of the few bands that still do it this way but they do it well.
Is it just me, or does Del McCoury have a twinkle in his eye?
i think #23 is bob Dylan's Nashville skyline rag...not 100% though
bluegrass is the only TRUE American music
well, jazz.
