Never sold out one arena. In Ginger's dreams. Reality. Led Zep is more appreciated and their music more loved by more people, way, way more, than anything Ginger Baker ever did in music.

"He introduced the long drum solo into rock music". The only good thing about that was it gave me the chance to get to the bar while it wasn't too busy. Drum solos are OK if you are Joe Morello, but otherwise forget it.
Baker, Pete Townsend, Keith Richards,Ray Davies all hated Led Zeppelin. The reason I think is jealousy since it was Zep who truly nailed that Hard Rock sound that would become the blueprint for every hard rock/heavy metal band that came after.
Interestingly Baker's grudge against Cream was that they would not cut him an equal third of the money even though he was a major contributor to their success.
He didn't have a grudge with Cream, his grudge was with Jack Bruce and it started well before Cream when they played in the Graham Bond organisation. Cream was Gingers idea and he asked Eric Clapton to join the band who said he would but on the condition that Jack Bruce is the bass player. Ginger reluctantly agreed to ask Jack to join and Jack has said in interviews how shocked he was that Ginger asked him to join his band; given their history. Cream played a mixture of blues covers and original material that was mostly written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown who wrote lyrics, Eric Clapton contributed on a couple of records but most of the original stuff was Bruce/Brown so most of the money the band made in royalties went to Jack Bruce and Pete Brown. Ginger did contribute massively on how the songs were arranged and he would change the time signature and rearrange it as Jack wrote everything in straight 4:4 time and if you heard the music played the way Jack composed it in 4:4 time; it would be a completely different sound. Ginger was a genius of "time" and without his input Creams sound would not be the huge heavy swinging pendulum which we know and love. The point I'm leading upto is that although Gingers Input on many Cream records was significant, song writing credits are generally split between the person who wrote the melody and the people who wrote the lyrics, Gingers input is technically regarded as arrangement which doesn't get credited for royalties. This is what Ginger isn't happy about as Cream was his band and his input was vast but he's earned pittance for his influence and Pete Brown earned shedloads for writing lyrics and Jack Bruce earning huge royalties on songs that Ginger helped create.

@@chuckc7375 ginger held his own. He's an amazing drummer and a terrible human being. People really focus on his character and they dismiss his abilities. @@jlobiafra Multiple styles? Could he play bebop ,? That’s a style. I think he was a good drummer. He had alot of swing but no Funk whatsoever. That's something i look for in a drummer. I think he would last five minutes MAX with James Brown but i can totally hear Bonham or Mitch Mitchell bring up the Funk. I actually think Cream was better in the studio. Those long jams get tedious to me after awhile.
Ginger has this reputation for being a misanthrope but he just had strong opinions about music. If you think about those opinions he does have a point. Bonham was a technical monster but he wasn't 1/2 the musician that Baker was. Zeppelin's actual song writing was pretty suspect even though they had an original sound. Also the Stones have a few good songs but they aren't really better than a lot of bands that didn't get any recognition. I think it bothered Baker that the public often responded to image over music.
Ginger Baker was a curmudgeon and was right about some of the things he said but he wasn't someone I'd want to have been around much. Good drummer though.

Hated Hawkwind? Seriously? I mean how does anyone take anything seriously from a guy named 'Ginger'?
John Bonham is my all time Favorite.
I always thought Hawkwind was really great, but perhaps what let them down was less than stellar vocals, otherwise a great, highly original band?
Any chance of finding three bands he did like?.
Who cares what Ginger Baker thought? He was a complete jerk.
Has there ever been anyone or anything GB didn't hate?
Ginger is best known for his nasty disposition rather than his drumming.
A sorry legacy.
Well, deserved too.
What do you expect from a red-headed drummer? Lol Ginger Baker and Jerry Lee Lewis have been my role models since I was 11 years old.
The first supergroup Ginger Baker played in was Cream and not Blind Faith.
Keith Moon played lead.
Did Ginger like Keith Moon?
Entwistle played lead
@@markusantonio4866everybody loved Moonie

That's an excellent top 3 !
Led Zep definetely isn't appreciated by many bands of that era. I guess they stole too much from other artists, and got filthy rich by doing so. And then started to act like spoiled brats. Frankly, some of the solo songs of Plant are more interesting.
There is nobody more pompous in the music industry than people that claim to be "jazz trained"
Ginger Baker hated everybody.
So so many artists who hated/hate 3 bands, what is wrong with all these people???
He supposedly was also a jazz drummer, but I never heard him play jazz, not the bop style anyway. I can’t imagine him playing with bird or miles, he wouldn’t have fit at all.
He battled three of the greatest jazz drummers, max roach, Elvin Jones, and art Blakely
@@jlobiafra and what was your conclusion to those battles?
@@jlobiafra Drum solos are only one part of playing , the other part is comping.
@@chuckc7375 ginger held his own. He's an amazing drummer and a terrible human being. People really focus on his character and they dismiss his abilities. The guy started as a free form jazz player who was mentored by one of the best jazz drummers Phil Seamen. Made his transition to rock and was one of the first drummers to incorporate double bass to rock. Then later when living in Africa joined Fela Kuti playing afro beat. Then in the nineties played hard rock metal with masters of reality. He could play multiple styles. And Yes, he was a jerk.
@@jlobiafra Multiple styles? Could he play bebop ,? That’s a style. Baker played just fine in the rock world, but he would have been lost playing with bird, or Miles, or Trane, and yes you’re right he was a jerk. I once met Buddy Rich in a music shop many years ago and he was another real jerk. He asked me what records that I was looking for as I was going through the albums, and I said that I was looking for any Billy Cobham albums and his reply was, he’s ok if you like Tonka toys and walked away. He could play like Cobham if he had two more sets of hands and feet. He was a nasty guy, and I will never forget that day.
Those long jams get tedious to me after awhile.
if you listen to the early Meters you'll hear more than a few familiar things from drummer Ziggy Modeliste that John Bonham got ideas from.
Yeah and he was well liked and respected as a human being ..wasn't he ?
Ginger has this reputation for being a misanthrope but he just had strong opinions about music. If you think about those opinions he does have a point. Bonham was a technical monster but he wasn't 1/2 the musician that Baker was. Zeppelin's actual song writing was pretty suspect even though they had an original sound. Also the Stones have a few good songs but they aren't really better than a lot of bands that didn't get any recognition. I think it bothered Baker that the public often responded to image over music.
Baker was a very jealous guy.
He was the curmudgeon of the drums.
Barriemore Barlow was highly rated by Bonham, baker didn't like any other drummer,at least Bonham recognized talent.
this man was sick in the head
Ginger Baker was a curmudgeon and was right about some of the things he said but he wasn't someone I'd want to have been around much. Good drummer though.
How about an article about 3 bands he liked WTF
That's okay. NOBODY liked Ginger Baker. Not even his own family.
Ginger Baker's Airforce might be the worst album I have ever heard.
His Navy record aint half bad.....
I spent 3 hours one day searching videos to hear why people think GB was such a great drummer. The only thing I found that was really good, was a solo he did with cream ....the most recent one.
I just don't get why people think he is so great.
