    Hearing you talk about how many of these "adult" characters act like they're 19 really makes me realize how much we lack mature characters in romance (not just age-wise, but maturity-wise as well). I'd be SO curious to see a rec video from you of romances that involve characters that are a bit older (maybe 28-30+) who also ACT like they're that age and have some of their shit together!

    • @isabellaoliveira4945
      @isabellaoliveira4945 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I second this! Been really into books with characters that are fully grown adults (like Part of Your World) and would love to get some new recs

      @@laisarcanjo6025 That’s why it’s nice to read it in fiction 😂 Also I think you can emotionally have your shit together even if financially we’re all in black holes of debt, and I’d love to see more emotionally mature characters…even if they can barely afford rent lol

      For real!! Now that I am 26, it bugs me so much that these women act like teenagers. I think that's why people enjoyed Book Lovers because the lead character atleast to some extent acts like an adult.

    • @jaginaiaelectrizs6341
      @jaginaiaelectrizs6341 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it just depends on if you feel more uncomfortable with the idea of the old stereotype of girls being pathetically hung up on just one guy forever even when that guy clearly couldn't care less about them ever as if girls have nothing else more about them than an interest in some guy...or more uncomfy with the whole old thing of girls being interested-in or liking someone else almost mandatorily just because that person likes//wants the girl[ & the girl's afraid of hurting people's feelings or afraid that no one else would ever want them except the first option that readily presents itself] and/or girls worrying all the time much much more about who does or doesn't want them than the girls concern themselves properly with who they do or don't personally actually want for themself like they really should[ as if they are limited to only ever waiting for someone else to make the first move so they almost need to be granted 'permission' somehow first before they're allowed to have feelings safely as if they don't choose for themself who their own options are or aren't as if finding a partner is waiting for other people's greenlight(s) decided for you rather than deciding your own greenlight(s) for yourself & just looking for the areas of mutual overlap in the circles of both your interest AND their interest like looking for the intersections in a venn diagram or something]..maybe?? 🤔😅🤷‍♀️ 👀 (I dunno-I'm just thinking out loud here, pondering it.) LOLL
      ( I prefer mutual pining, or when they both just seem to kind of fall together roughly around the same time, too. 🤭🙃😅😅😁😊 ^-^ )

And while it's nice to see Terms and Conditions, Twisted Hate, & (I believe) Things We Never Got Over... they are all now being published under Bloom Publishing which is an imprint of Sourcebooks and I'm not sure we can consider them indies any longer. lol. is Sourcebooks still an independent publisher though? (I'm woefully underinformed about individual publishers) I just know there is technically a difference between traditional publishing, independent publishing, and self-publishing-but I'm not a total expert on what the line is exactly between trad pub versus indie pub, and I know a lot of people these days do actually seem to just consider "self-pub" to be "indie pub"[ &/or vice versa] as well considering basically any kind of official publisher[ other than just the author themself] to be "trad pub" too((even though indie pub is technically [or at least has traditionally been recognized as being ]a different thing than either self-pub or trad-pub, except that self-pub authors are technically independent/"indie"/ authors, whereas trad & indie published authors aren't[ I don't think] rightfully considered indie authors .. even though their books are technically still indie published books despite not being self-pubbed books...GOSHH _no _*_wonder_* it's really confusing terminology/terminology-usage/ out there sometimes!)).🤔😅😅😁🤷‍♀️ Loll
      ( *# Send Help* )
      So ... I guess it really just depends on what exactly you mean by "indie", here: Published by an Indie(Self-pub) Author - or - Published by an Indie Publisher??
      _(((I just looked it up quick, and supposedly Sourcebooks ARE an indie publisher, though-even if they don't count as being self-pub! ^-^)))_

    • @stephinwonderland49
      @stephinwonderland49 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 that's a great way of looking at it. Sourcebooks isn't part of the big 5 publishers (since I don't think the prh/Simon merge has happened) but I personally distinguish it by traditionally published (query for an agent and an agent then sells you to a publisher and the author has very little say in anything other than doing the writing) versus self-published which I call indie since they're indie authors (where the author hires everything out and publishes themselves and keeping all the control in what happens to the entire project).
      But, yes it can get very confusing at times! 🤣

    • @jaginaiaelectrizs6341
      @jaginaiaelectrizs6341 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephinwonderland49 👍🏻🙂 Thanks!
      Well, I mean... I think some small/indie publishers do actually still accept submissions even without requiring the author to have an agent first, too, though(and there are indie publishing houses out there that do still give authors much more self-involvement / final-say/deciding-power or such than other proper big-name traditional publishers do too).😅🤭😁
      But, yeah, I think the trend these days-since self-pub really took off-generally IS to [at least colloquially ]think of indie as self-pub ... and just using a publisher in general as being trad-pub, even if it's not one of the big whatever-number publishers.
      I guess maybe that's just the way that terminology usage naturally evolves over time though, sometimes; and maybe why languages that aren't still in common use are considered "dead"-languages, because they don't really continue adapting/evolving over time like that. ^--^
      It's kinda like "that's sweet" meaning either 'that's nice' _or_ 'that's really not nice at all'-context is super necessary, sometimes. (Or like certain same terms or acronyms or other abbreviations sometimes meaning drastically different things within different fields or niches of work/interests.) Loll
      I just find it interesting, because I first started really wanting to learn more about indie/non-big-X#/ published books right about when self-publishing was really taking off...and the crossover in terminology usages really complicated the ease of doing that oftentimes for me, because sometimes people don't specify what they mean by "indie" at all, so I was basically still left just researching the publishing behind every book individually for myself or simply choosing not to care too much personally how it was or wasn't published! 🤭🤣 (That's just my own personal woe though, I guess😂-I totally get why so many people can make the distinction differently.😊 I'm just always finding myself compelled to look for clarification, myself Lol)

      That's what I love about Chandler-she doesn't hold back her own opinion, but she also doesn't make it feel unsafe at all to have your own opinion whether that opinion is totally the same _or_ differs completely from her own either.! (And even if you might have different opinions about some things, you know her reasons are pretty much always going to be ones that you can respect[ because she never makes it feel like she thinks herself an absolutely infallible authority on literature or entertainment or whatever nor does she ever make it feel like it's not okay to like what you like even if what you like maybe isn't always the bestest book ever or such she always feels as casual or down-to-earth as just talking books with a friend], even if/when things did sometimes land a bit differently with one's own self personally!) ^-^

The exaggeration and drama or exaggeration is normal in Bollywood movies but there's a reason for it. Personally, I can't stand the over the top drama ... For unnecessary shit. Personally, I don't love Nisha Sharma's books

    Are people named Knox in the real world? It’s a name I’ve ONLY ever come across in romance novels (always the hero).

      @@chandlerainsley The more you learn, I guess, some days! 😅🤭🤭😊
      (It just makes me think of Dr. Seuss / 'Fox in Socks', myself!🤣)
      It's funny how easy it is to forget, at times, that names can vary so much just based on region and/or country alone; unconscious/subjective biases can be really something unexpectedly sneaky like that.😅😅 😁😁😁

    THANK YOU FOR LISTENING by JULIA WHELAN was sooo goood! I loved the book, and especially, the autor-narrated audiobook. It made me tear up, I laughed, I ugly-cried, I squeaked and squealed :D If only there was more hot on-page sex, it would be somewhere in my ultimate top of romances EVER. Still, it was not one of those sexless books that have no heat - there were scorching hot scenes without being explicit, which might be even harder to write if one thinks about it… This girlie needs the on page hanky-panky though… Still, I absolutely highly recommed this book, screaming this from the rooftops y'all! The emotions are real, hero - swoony, heroine - damn interesting, and the plot - really original

    ‘Funny You Should Ask” felt very fan fiction-y to me, and not in a good way. It’s also weird to me that she stole someone’s else story and didn’t deviate much, but then didn’t acknowledge the original writer.

    I wanted to read Funny You Should Ask because the guy is supposed to kinda be Chris Evans, but I just couldn't get over the fact that his name is Gabe 💀

    I’m so disappointed You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty didn’t work for you. I do think that the story felt more like a healing journey rather than one trying to be submerged in grief and this was about Feyi learning how to reclaim herself after being lost for so long. Which is probably why things felt so surface level but I really liked it! Love ur videos 💕

    It's funny but my first (and only) Ana Huang novel was Twisted Hate and I picked this particular one up because it was nominated, but ultimately I felt the exact same way about it that you did. I had basically written her off as an author because it left such a bad taste in my mouth. I still don't know if I will try anything else from her.

    I agree with your review on the American Roommate Experiment. Everything but some part at the middle is horrible. They are immature and in the end Lucas becomes just a neanderthal.
