You should check out Global Warming (Live at Silver Cord), probably one of Joe Duplantier's best vocal performance that isn't gutturals/harsh and highly emotionally fueled.
Seriously, people need to suggest her the right songs. Because after her one reaction to The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe, I knew their heavier stuff is completely a bad pick for this channel
@@demondrug7788 Yeah, the best pick would be a song where Joe is not only growling, but also uses his beautiful clean voice. The Chant for example, Born in Winter or Silvera. Personally, as much as I love all of the Gojira stuff, The heaviest matter of the universe is probably the worst pick for Beth
I'm 61 and my son introduced me to this band through the album From Mars to Sirius. Specifically Flying Whales. It's so powerful to see them perform it live. There are these circle pits that form and they toss an inflatable whale amongst themselves before the epic drop. Wow. Mind blowing. Mario Duplantier on the drums....I call him Super Mario. He's just amazing. Joe's vocals are incredible and the lyrics are absolutely spot on. I love their morals and their opinions mirror my own on these environmental topics.

Seen Gojira a load of times, even though he does harsh vocals it does feel a lot like he's singing when he does it. He does occasionally sing cleanly like on the song Born In Winter.
Gojira's the band that got me into metal. I went into it thinking metal was just a bunch of angry screaming about whatever violent stuff the vocalist felt like that day while the drummer randomly smashes the hell out of his kit. They were the ones who taught me metal could have a great deal of depth of feeling and meaning. Magma in particular is one of those albums that makes me feel things that are really hard to describe.
Used to listen alot to Gojira 8-10 years ago... think I need to listen to the old albums again. On the border to death metal but the skill, the melody and the vocals (half growl) is fantastic.
Love seeing your analysis to some more Gojira ! Joe's voice is quite unique in metal (and the rest of the band is also always interesting, hello Mario) I've only seen them twice live even though they're from my country but some of my best concert memories come from them !
I got to see them at Good Things the other week. I didn't see all the bands but out of those I did, they had the best sound mix. Hanging out to see them again, it may be decades (living in Australia)
When I first read lyrics and knew what they were saying I cried, being in a rough spot in my life a lot of their songs are actually so uplifting and I fell in love with them before even realizing what they actually stand for. Legendary band
@@benvanzon3234 I don't remember if it was for this one in particular or another of their songs, but basically Joe said in an interview they don't do them live because the vocals can be extremely low pitched to pull of consistently.
Been somewhere like a year and a half ago that I watched a video from you. Here I guinely saw someone that is enjoying a metal song. Don't know, but was not something I expected based on the videos I saw from you in the past. Maybe these metal requests had a grasp on you overtime? Anyway glad to see someone coming from a different musical background getting to like heavy metal past the steorotypes.

I've seen them live about 4 times and I've been blown away each time. Their music is just so clever and their technique... Mario cannot be human... As for this song, the lyrics and how sad it is hits me every time!
Great reaction, great to hear you react to it! And yes you nailed it, at 7:47 it is technical death metal, one of the genres that Gojira display through their... well... "creations"!
Loved this one, Beth! Now I finally understand what you and Elizabeth Zahroff (The Charismatic Voice) mean when you talk about false vocal chords. THANK YOU! 😊. Also, I was just saying to my pal that I'm going to put together a TH-cam playlist of metal with progressive lyrics, starting with Gojira!! Also Anthrax, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine etc. I can share it here if folk would like 🙂
7:24 Courtney LaPlant from Spiritbox sings this way, you can hear her clean voice together with her screams, it’s a combination of false and vocal folds as you said, it’s a great technique as it gives you a better idea of the lyrics 😂
Enjoyed this. My sons a big Gojira fan, but I’ve not taken the opportunity to listen to them before. I’m comfortable with the likes of Amon Amarth, Slipknot, A7X etc. Besides, he hates it when I ‘steal his music’ as he accused me of before with A7X. Until I pointed out he was 2 when I first bought an album of theirs lol. Definitely going to give more attention to Gojira. ❤
I love their live studio performances of Global Warming and of Shooting Star (for the bbc radio i think), and i think they'd be great for a vocal analysis as they include more clean singing 😊. Shooting Star specially is pfffff so beautiful and devastating, specially if you have the context (the passing of the Duplantier brothers' mom).
Wish you would react to Global Warming (Live in the studio) or just the studio version of Born in winter, you can really appreciate Joe's versatility on those songs. Also, Joe reminds me of Chester Benington in terms of how much energy and effort their technique requires to make those sounds

He's a great vocalist. Try oroborus (official audio). He's able to scream but sing in a note at the same time. It's great. And listen to world to come and the way of all flesh (live) where he throat sings. He's awesome. Global warming live in studio is also great where he mixes clean singing and screaming
I’ve seen this band twice (the second time about a month ago), no live video comes close to capturing the sheer, profound, visceral power of this band live, you HAVE to see them in the flesh.
Death core tree huggers... who knew?!!! Dancing is an art form just like singing. So just like you often tell us, technique isn't the goal, expression is the goal. Whatever feels right for you, moving to the music, is the right thing to do =) You mentioned vocal coach for harsh vocals - then check out Kardashev, and then Kardavox Academy (the singer is a vocal coach too). Perhaps a conversation with him?
Trying to find an interview from a few years back with Joe Duplantier, the singer. He talks about his training and how he learned I believe it's Mongolian Throat Singing.
