[TAS] NES Zelda II: The Adventure of Link "100%" by Arc & Inzult in

  • This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/4425M
    TAS originally published on 2021-04-02
    Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is quite different from most of the early games in the Legend of Zelda series. It combines an overworld view with side-scrolling platform stages. In addition, the character can gain experience and levels, visit towns, and earn spells and items which are needed to proceed.
    Instead of aiming purely for speed, Arc ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/Arc ) and Inzult ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/I... ) take a more comfortable journey through Hyrule in this movie, collecting every item, visiting every palace, and more along the way. Don't confuse "comfortable" with "slow" however, as the authors' extensive understanding of the game (seriously, check out the submission notes ( tasvideos.org/7039S )!) helps Link finish his quest at top speed.
    If you'd like to watch a movie focusing entirely on speed, check out the authors' any% run:
    --------
    You can watch the complete run being played back on a console ( • [TAS Verified] NES Zel... ).

    People have been crapping all over this game for decades, but I have always loved it. I had both Zelda games growing up, so I learned to love them both.
    If folk would just decouple this game from the fact that it's a Zelda game and judge it on its own merit, they'd find its actually a decent game. People are so wrapped around the fact that its just so different from the original and lose sight of the game in and of itself. It isn't a masterpiece, but it's not terrible either.

      I did like the original Zelda growing up, but honestly, I always liked Zelda II just a little bit more. Something about the jumping aspects and the combat was just very fun and satisfying.

    I have to say that this is, by far, the best run I've seen of this game so far. It's just so entertaining to see all the quirky glitches (or whatever you want to call them) while you're playing. I just like the quick pace to it all and how fast you take out the bosses. It's nice being able to watch a playthrough without the hassle, if that makes any sense.
    I also love the point management and how you consistently kill yourself to save time lol. Great video!

    I just love how TAS speedrunners pushes buttons to do stuff, like jumping, throwing projectiles, and other things, to the beat of the music. :)
    And somehow, the subtitles for this video are mimicking what the music is "saying".

    • @ZinbobDan
      @ZinbobDan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a glitch. Human players can pull it off consistently with the fairy spell, but would more likely just exit the screen normally if trying to do what the TAS is doing.

    • @Dekaide44
      @Dekaide44 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZinbobDan I thought glitch was pressing the spell list right when you exit.

    • @ZinbobDan
      @ZinbobDan ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Dekaide44 that is part of the set up used by humans to pull off the glitch in RTA runs, without using the fairy spell. The player must let go of the direction they are leaving the screen the frame after they reach the exact pixel where the screen transition, and then press the opposite direction the very next frame. To make this easier, the player will pause on the frame they reach the screen transition. Then they can press and hold the opposite direction to buffer the input for the frame after they unpause.

    • @mncdssctn9110
      @mncdssctn9110 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there’s more stabs than that. It’s just that it’s done so fast that there’s barely any animation unless you go frame by frame. That’s the beauty of a TAS. And warping to King’s tomb is called the healer glitch which human runners also do in many categories.

      It's a speed run being in fairy skips the animation link holding the item up standing in place for a second or 2 so it does speed up the run slightly. And since he had the magic to spare still had exactly enough for the thunderbird that's also TAS for you at times he does this purposely.
