2 more tips for early gameplay: get a candle or torch ASAP (if its a torch, make sure it is lit before doing this), drop them once combat starts (or before if you know its coming). This way you can dip your xbows with a bonus action, 1d4 fire damage on EACH weapon for 3 turns with ONE dip! This is viable until you get the gauntlets mentioned in the video, or is viable as long as you using different gloves (without fire dmg, such as Dark Justiciar Gauntlets). This is a huge damage boost as early as you can find a candle/torch. 2nd tip: start using Oil of Accuracy as soon as you can craft it, and move on to Diluted Oil of Sharpness later on as soon as you have the Risky Ring. +2 to attack rolls greatly helps mitigating the -5 penalty from sharpshooter, and if you have a party member casting bless on you, you won't have any trouble (even early game) hitting your targets. Application of the oil is also on a bonus action, but lasts 10turns, so do this first, then dip your xbow, before starting combat. Hope this helps, have fun!
I like the build but would go bard first up to 6th level. I think the damage in slashing flourish plus bonus shot with two weapon fighting would be > rogue main hand plus 2 off hand shot with sneak attack. With sneak attack, you have to do more micro to get the condition whereas flourish is point and click.
I totally see how that could have a higher damage output! I like to focus on attacking with my bonus actions so my main action can do spells, that way im doing both a the same time. Especially early game when the sharpshooter penalty is really known, being able to fairy fire AND shoot twice is crazy helpful
Same here. Also I like spells so it's always a plus to have it early in the game. I'd also like to add some more tips. I personally love this one half-drow because they get faerie fire for free and also darkness, and most importantly, proficiency with shields. You can have like a 20 on the AC pretty early by having someone cast Mage Armor on you, have a shield equipped, have 18 dex (start 17, and get the item that adds +1 to DEX permanently), and equip the cloth that gives you +2 to DEX, thus getting a 20. I mix in 2 fighter levels for action surge and archery fighting style too. I solo'd the encounter on top of moonrise tower in act 2 with this build. If you dont want that nage armor thing going on, definitely get the Yuanti-Scalemail. That on it's own gives you a 19 to AC. You'll lose out on the +2 DEX but whatever. Just an option if you favor a slightly higher AC instead of 20 DEX.
made a durge character for my second playthrough and just wanted a stealthy archer type build but then i randomly saw the hand crossbows and bought them in the grove or wherever and i absolutely fell in love. Even without this build the damage and range just feels silly. as long as i don't get bad rng and miss i can take down pretty much two normals mobs in one round, with just basic attacks so i can keep going forever
Swords bard builds are imo the strongest overall.. I can see why tief is good but I rather go two levels of fighter and 6 bard, this gives you action surge + archery fighting style so that helps a lot for landing the attacks, even un-hasted you can do 9 attacks in the first round.. At that point I feel there are many good paths, tief is an option, or you can go all the way to 10 bard for magical secrets, even something like two levels of divination wizard is quite good so you can learn spells from scrolls.. For items I usually focus a bit less on Damage (don't get me wrong damage will still be great) but this character is also usually my best controller so with helment of arcane acuity + the ring that lets you cast enchantment and illusion spells as bonus action you can fully stack arcane acuity turn one then use your bonus action to land any CC with 95% acuracy, I also swap from hand crossbows to two hander ones at that point (since there are usually just stronger two hand ones with extra effects) and I can still use my bonus action to cast a CC or do damage with things like dissonant whispers or vicious mockery (since they are enchantment spells). Even double swords bard team would probably be great having one as a more control oriented and one as a more DPS oriented.
Swords bards got a lotta attention in bg3, bards in dnd got a lotta shit thrown at them but finally now hella people are seeing how dope they really can be
Phalar Aluve! My love!!!!! I might try this but with a point in war cleric. I'm a sucker for longbows and having the option for another flourish using war priest charge/bonus action sounds fun!
War cleric is so dope! I also love longbows, I’m bummed that handcross bows got so broken cuz now no one makes bow builds and it’s like, so lame! There’s so many dope bows
If you do wood elf you get longbow proficiency, then with titan string bow, strength elixirs, 16 dex and +2 dex armor, arcane synergy / 18 charisma from Ethel, the +2 damage on bow gloves (which also gives proficiency but there's better stuff later), caustic ring, and then sharpshooter you can absolutely murder people by the end of act 1. It's like +4 damage from dex, +5 from strength elixir, +10 from sharpshooter, +2 from from gloves, +4 from charisma, +1 from the bow itself and +2 from caustic for a total of +27 and none of that is from damage rolls so it's super consistent damage. You can routinely just massacre someone if you're sneaking / have advantage and use your flourish. It's like an easy ~120 damage per turn with extra attack and flourishes at level 6 bard.
for an earlier amulet option you could use the Amulet of the Harpers that you can get in Act 2 from Quartermaster Tali at Last light Inn. It gives you advantage on wisdom saving throws which will help with the disadvantage from the risky ring. Wisdom Savings throws are generally the worst type of saving throws to fail so its a good option until you can get Fey Semblance amulet. Alternatively play as a gnome and you'll have built in advantage on Wisdom, intelligence and Charisma saving throws.
Not bad! I had a brief look through the comments and i haven't seen anyone mention the BHAALIST armour (Dark urge only but Dark urge is the strongest character with the smoothest progression since they get access to items/abilities that no other character does like deathstalkers mantle which is OP early on). This works on most bosses as well, even the dragon at the end. I killed it in one turn with Astarion only in honour mode. You can also consider the broodmother's amulet as well for extra 1d4 poison (casting mass healing word before the gunslinger's action will enable it). If you get both of the piercing crossbows 'hellfire hand crossbow' and 'firestoker' and get someone with this armour to debuff (shadowheart lets be real) the damage in unbelievable. Also Astarion is the best character for this since he gets the extra 1-10 necrotic damage after you kill cazador, one of the easiest fights in act 3. You can pretty much do it at the very start just by casting daylight on him and ascending astarion. Enjoy the slaughter!

Really great build and similar to my current tav build but if you want more attacks, I would go 2 fighter (for action surge), 6 bard and 4 rogue. Or you could go 3 rogue and get a subclass (either battle master or champion) for fighter if you don't mind losing the feat

you were right not to use cross bows. the bard ability takes its stats from the main hard bow only, so doing this is a long bow makes the build immensely stronger. Not to mention that you can change: the initial rogue subclass to ambusher giving you a more damage opening round as well are a reset after combat starts, change the fighting style to archery giving you more damage over all your shots, long bows give you significantly more range as well as a better weapon skill from brace (which is savage attacker but for ranged). Cross bows are thematically really cool, but in are a damage/ utility loss when compared to a longbow.
I love a good long bow! But If he had a bow he would have 4 attacks hasted, because he has two bonus actions I will always have more shots and just a game of numbers, the hand crossbows output more damage everytime. Dont get me wrong though I LOVE using bows but its been a known thing in the meta that handcrossbows with sharpshooter out damage everything weapon wise
@rollforbooty that's not at all true. Titanstring bow and a strength elixir will out damage any cross bow now. Your build has to invest 3 entire levels in rogue to get a bonus action, which can be used once per round of combat. That's a single shot. Cross bows very excellent before they were nerfed hard, and with the nerf to addition action's attacks in honor mode it's made bloodlust exilir alot less attractive from a raw damage point of view to bow users. Your build while being thematically cool, is very much burst damage orientated. Opening round of combat with your build would general consist of: 6 HM attacks (2 action, 2 action surge, 1 bloodlust, 1 haste) and 2 OH attacks. Which would become 5 flourishes, 1 HM, 2 OH. 13D6 (45.5) + 91 [weapon+prof 7 per instance]+39 (Arcane dia)+ 26D4 (65) ([PA+Gloves] = 240.5 Vs Titanstring w/exilir (Hill giant) (with 3 spare levels and no weapon in either hand) 5HM 10D8 (45)+ 60 [weapon+prof 6 per instance] + 50 (titanstring) + 39 [Acance dia] + 10D4 (25) [Gloves] = 219. Due to the long bows brace ability that average base damage will be significantly higher. I rest my case ❤️
i suppose i can switch between the two options depending if i have a large number of enemies to kill (hand crossbows) or a fight where i wanna put all my focus into downing one specific enemy (two-handed crossbow / longbow)? either way, i’ve been trying out duel-wielding crossbows for the moment and i’m having so much fun with the playstyle!
I just learned there are HAND crossbows lol. I only have light or heavy. Any ideas where I can find HAND crossbows now that I’m in ACT 2? Going to respect Shadowheart as a gunslinger as I’m now a Red Mage 😀
Dammon usually sells some! The Devil in the gauntlet drops a magic one, and the halfling in moonrise towers sells the other magic one! Those are the two best in the game
Missing out on 2 feats there! Just for a free invis and shot at the start of a battle. I can see though with a specific play style how that would be best though!
there's nothing I can think of that would go well with this build specifically, just use regular good items. I used the medium adamantine armor and later the helldusk armor, and the cloak of protection, and a +3 shield (there's at least 2 in the game). ring of protection could be good, though you have to do something less than moral to get it. Using this build I got up to 27 AC w these items and buffs. you could also use the invis cape you get on a durge run. the band of the mystic scoundrel is great for bards because it lets you cast an illusion spell with a bonus action after a weapon attack, but you're mostly using your bonus action for shooting w this build. caustic band is good for a bit of extra damage, and will compound with how many attacks you'll be doing. Killer's sweetheart ring is also good for a free crit. srry this was long I hope it helps!
Hey i really love your builds but id like to run your magic missile build in the same party as my gunsinger but they both want to use the stormy clamour boots, any suggestions on who i should prioritize to have them and if you had any alternative boot suggestions for whoever doesnt recieve them?
Question, am new the BG3 and just got it on PS and was wondering if this Build is still viable? I had accidentally started a campaign with friends and chose rogue and have been kinda felt underwhelmed. Hoping to find vids to make the experience more fun
Oh for sure, literally change nothing and just use swords and youre good! Just make sure you put expertise in stealth. Id prolly use the Justisar short sword from the gauntlet its super good with the risky ring
@@rollforbooty my man thanks, your builds are awesome and live the fact you can change play styles an they are still viable, thanks for getting back to me
@rollforbooty that didn't work but it's cool. I just got firestoker and I'm heading to act 2 for the next one. I guess I'll try this out once I reach the tower
You could! Sneak attack goes down, you loose your reaction defense move, 4th lvl spells, a bunch of slots, but you totally could! It would be pretty strong too

@@Insomniay0 omg thank you so much :) I literally go through every item in the game and try to make connections to other spells or accessories one by one lol
I did this but 8 Swords Bard 4 battle master. twf+archery and battle master stuff comes back on short rest also pick up Precision Attack + Sharpshooter does more than some sneak attack
Just focus on finding hand crossbows from venders and getting the best light armor you can find until you can start collecting the items in the video. Sharpshooter is gonna effect your aim so as I said try to use bless to counter that, the wellspring ring Volo sells turns heals to blesses so you can wear it and take potions to bless yourself
Instead of 6 levels in rogue you can go 4 rogue and 2 fighter. This gives you dual weapon fightijf style which lets you use your modifer for offhand and gives you action surge But other than that i love this build! I didnt think of using the diadem of arcane synergy
You get two weapon fighting from bard, but you can stack archery style for a +2 to attack rolls. Alternatively you can choose defense for extra AC. Not to mention the shield and heavy armor proficiency.
With your main action, use Fairy Fire. Itll give you adv, and you can shot them still twice with your bonus action Also I use the whispering promise ring and have the gunsinger either use his bonus action to use healing word, or just drink a potion. Thatll give you bless and that will help a LOT. Other than that, use darkness or hunger of hadar and where the eversight ring to see in it, that will give you advantage. You can also use the mask you get from the devils fee second story and the gloves you get from purchasing at the dragons axe, totally blanking on the names of them rn but thats act 3.
@@charlydiaz8347 the Mystra statue? It should, plus the donation box at the other temple, but I believe these buffs last only a long rest so be careful!
Im fairly sure you dont need two weapon fighting for hand crossbows , i think your offhand automatically grts the modifier, so you could take archery for extra damage
You do now, they fixed it so you will need two weapon fighting to use your dex mod on your off hand ranged. That was implemented in patch 4, but we went a long time not needing it
@@stevemurray7434 dammon usually has them in stock for you to buy, there’s a devil in the gauntlet that drops the +2 hellfire one. The other one is ne’er misser and you can buy that from the halfing at moonrise towers :)
Yeaaahhh, this was for sure gonna be my backup build on my main. I ended up going gloomstalker because i already had a bard, but man this does look like a good time. Bards are wildly underrated as combat classes imo.
Does this build have very many dead levels? I can't imagine it does since rogue is a pretty strong class up until other martials get their extra attack at 5, but at that point you've already started working towards bard. I guess maybe between bard 1 and 3 would be dead levels, but it seems to do its job at any other point in time
Sometimes I use haste, sometimes you can use a blood lust potion, this character can use his action to use items like screech and shoot with his bonus action becuase he has two weapons in his hands. He has two bonus actions too so he can shoot a few times
I can't even get to balder's gate before I can beat the game. 50min. credit video LOL. I can't get past Lvl 8 with Kale and his heart attack and boom game over. Moon towers is easy at lvl 8 I can't imagine being lvl 12. Am I missing something and beating the giant worm is not the end of the game?
for what we need 5 lvl rogue,7 bard if we dont care about spells and sneak attack- we range fighter. we can to 4 rogue+6 bard+2 warrior who gives us action surge+second fight style (archery+dual hand),next what a hell with start dex and charisma? Just why u all use 17 and 15 and up with feat to 18 and 16? why its not a 16 and 16? u have anyway +3 bonus on start in dex but lose +1 in charisma cos u have only 15,and u anyway use u feat for 18 dex in future,if u say me what u have +1 from witch hair that cos 17 and 15 i answer - u anyway have -1 charisma in start where spells for this build is more effective than after first act. literally have a -1 when u need more charisma, and add when u dont care about charisma. sry its not a strongest build dude its a minimal version of sharpshooter bard build who maiden in first day of release of game.
Thank you for being one of the few people that actually gives the gear for the build instead of just stats that we cant use with just any equipment.
Absolutely! I didn’t when I started but I’ve been lucky to get some really good constructive feedback from the awesome people who watch my videos
Yungirs crossbow and the firestoker have good synergy since firestoker does extra damage on burning targets
Ne'er misser is better because the +1 is more important to offset sharpshooter

going super well actually. Level 8 now and just tweaked it a tad. I plan to get bard to 7 to get greater invisibility since mine is a lightfoot halling(advantage), expertice on stealth and max dex. May sacrifice the last feat for 1 level of sorcerer to get agathys, shield and jump spells.
My character is meant to be a debt collector in baldur's gate for a guild so his spells are more about navigation and infiltration rather than offense while still having a silver tongue with deception and persuasion being expertice aswell(albeit, I plan to leave it at 16 charisma or 14).
His spells would be:
-Shield
-Enhance leap
-Armour of agathys

This is similar to my bard 2 weapon xbows but my last 2 levels went into fighter for archery and action surge, really fun class to play
Nice! The archery fighting style really kicks ass, I wish I mentioned grabbing the gloves of archery in the first act I totally spaced on them
omg this is near identical to the build i’m using now and WHY did i not think about dual wielding crossbows?? THANK YOU!
Hell yeah dude! Slip those on and check out how crazy it gets!
you were right not to use cross bows. the bard ability takes its stats from the main hard bow only, so doing this is a long bow makes the build immensely stronger.
13D6 (45.5) + 91 [weapon+prof 7 per instance]+39 (Arcane dia)+ 26D4 (65) ([PA+Gloves] = 240.5
Vs
Titanstring w/exilir (Hill giant) (with 3 spare levels and no weapon in either hand)
5HM
10D8 (45)+ 60 [weapon+prof 6 per instance] + 50 (titanstring) + 39 [Acance dia] + 10D4 (25) [Gloves] = 219.
Swords Bard too OP. can't believe you get to have that many attacks AND get full spell progression
bruh for real, way too strong lol bards where a joke in dnd and im so stoked to see everyone realize how dope they are
hope they don't nerf this in BG3. Im in the middle of a run and want to do a Swords bard next playthrough lol
I really dont think they will! Its so by the book dnd that nerfing it would get a lotta us nerds upset lol
So basically you made buster scruggs into bg3
That's my 1st run Tav a pleasure to play
Every game I play, this is astarian lolol hes never played anything else ive no idea what other dialog he has hahaha
It's a bit outplayed, but I'd still put two levels in fighter for action surge
You can always tweek it however you wanna! Fighter would get you archery fighting style too
At level 4 did you take tavern brawler? You were moving too fast to be able to tell.
6 Bard (College of Swords)/ 3 Rogue (Assassin)/ 3 Ranger (Gloomstalker) = Winner.
Missing out on 2 feats there! Just for a free invis and shot at the start of a battle. I can see though with a specific play style how that would be best though!
I didnt see what the feat was in level 4?
Same
@@camdensedmilk it says "Sharpshooter feat get at level 4" big as hell for like 15 seconds
What chest armor, cape, shield, and 2nd ring would you suggest with this build?
there's nothing I can think of that would go well with this build specifically, just use regular good items.
I would give the boots to the Gunsinger and give the Gloves of belligerent skies to the wizard! Sorry for the late reply sorry!
Question, am new the BG3 and just got it on PS and was wondering if this Build is still viable? I had accidentally started a campaign with friends and chose rogue and have been kinda felt underwhelmed. Hoping to find vids to make the experience more fun
Just curious as this build is epic but would there be a way I could use this as a more melee or stealth backstab style build?
Oh for sure, literally change nothing and just use swords and youre good! Just make sure you put expertise in stealth. Id prolly use the Justisar short sword from the gauntlet its super good with the risky ring
@@rollforbooty my man thanks, your builds are awesome and live the fact you can change play styles an they are still viable, thanks for getting back to me
I've looked all over for hand crossbows and I can't find them on honour mode act 1.
Take a long rest and retalk to the venders! Their inventory sometimes can refresh that way
@rollforbooty that didn't work but it's cool. I just got firestoker and I'm heading to act 2 for the next one.
I guess I'll try this out once I reach the tower
@@Bigmatt7 did you try more than once? Cuz it can take a few days sometimes, it’s all randomized
@rollforbooty yep, did ten partial long rests but Derryty Bonecloak has none in underdark

I might try it. My sorlock build is too much fun atm tho. I mow down anything in my path
Run them both! Party can have 4 people! Just reclass Astarian thats who I have running Gunsinger rn
is there a particular background you need to choose when making this class or does that not really matter?
For this one nope! Do what your heart desires!
@@rollforbooty thank you!
Full helldusk set with hellfire greataxe. Warlock pact of the blade+fighter
cool!
What about the last two levels in fighter for archery fighting style and action surge?
You could! Sneak attack goes down, you loose your reaction defense move, 4th lvl spells, a bunch of slots, but you totally could! It would be pretty strong too
It’s really a shame that there are only 3 unique hand crossbows in the game
Its such a shame, I feel like they should have known we where gonna love them lol maybe they did it so it wouldnt be even more broken lol
@@rollforbootyYou make some of the best BG3 videos I have seen. I think you’re going to have a really good 2024 with this channel my dude
@@rollforbootyLike I remember you did something cool with the Titanstring Bow and used the Hill Giant Club as a stat stick. Like who thinks of that? Brilliant man 🫡
@@Insomniay0 omg thank you so much :) I literally go through every item in the game and try to make connections to other spells or accessories one by one lol
4 if you count the +2 Hand Crossbow XD
I did this but 8 Swords Bard 4 battle master. twf+archery and battle master stuff comes back on short rest also pick up Precision Attack + Sharpshooter does more than some sneak attack
Nice! Those too really can save your ass before risky ring too
Do you have a non bard build. I just have so many multi class bards that I want something different lol
Did you look at my 70+ playlist? I’ve got EVERYTHING lol
Why don’t you tell me what you are wanting to play and I’ll link yuh
@@rollforbooty best tank build?
What is the armor you have?
this is a really solid build however I don't think it can beat my strongest build: monk
Lololol
I swear I've tried so many builds yet open hand monk has always been on top@@rollforbooty
started using this build, wondering how it will fair through act 1? and what type of egar should i get
Just focus on finding hand crossbows from venders and getting the best light armor you can find until you can start collecting the items in the video. Sharpshooter is gonna effect your aim so as I said try to use bless to counter that, the wellspring ring Volo sells turns heals to blesses so you can wear it and take potions to bless yourself
Yes i've equipped the ring on shadowheart, what light armour would you recommend?
@@rollforbooty
Instead of 6 levels in rogue you can go 4 rogue and 2 fighter. This gives you dual weapon fightijf style which lets you use your modifer for offhand and gives you action surge
But other than that i love this build! I didnt think of using the diadem of arcane synergy
He has the two weapon fighting style from bard, but action surge is always handy! Thanks a ton by the way im glad you liked it!!
@@rollforbooty oh no way I didn't know you can do it via bard! Thanks for the tip!
@@MysticLegend31 yeah of course! Takes longer though!
You get two weapon fighting from bard, but you can stack archery style for a +2 to attack rolls. Alternatively you can choose defense for extra AC. Not to mention the shield and heavy armor proficiency.
Any way to improve hit chance without risky ring I have it in other character and I'm having a bad time landing shots
With your main action, use Fairy Fire. Itll give you adv, and you can shot them still twice with your bonus action
Also I use the whispering promise ring and have the gunsinger either use his bonus action to use healing word, or just drink a potion.
@@rollforbooty So the statue in chapter 3 should help
@@charlydiaz8347 the Mystra statue? It should, plus the donation box at the other temple, but I believe these buffs last only a long rest so be careful!
@@rollforbooty the statue that you can buy in the circus, it gives a bless buff each time you long rest and it's permanent.

What mods are you using? like with more spells?
This build isnt using mods, but my computer has a mod called 5e Spells that puts in all the dnd spells larian skipped! Its hella fun
@@rollforbooty thanks so much
@@munintheraven8812 here’s a link! www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/125
Im fairly sure you dont need two weapon fighting for hand crossbows , i think your offhand automatically grts the modifier, so you could take archery for extra damage
You do now, they fixed it so you will need two weapon fighting to use your dex mod on your off hand ranged. That was implemented in patch 4, but we went a long time not needing it
Do you know where to find Hand crossbows? I’m now in Act 2 and want to respec Shadowheart to this
@@stevemurray7434 dammon usually has them in stock for you to buy, there’s a devil in the gauntlet that drops the +2 hellfire one. The other one is ne’er misser and you can buy that from the halfing at moonrise towers :)
@@rollforbootythanks!!
Yeaaahhh, this was for sure gonna be my backup build on my main. I ended up going gloomstalker because i already had a bard, but man this does look like a good time. Bards are wildly underrated as combat classes imo.
Dude for sure! Bards can be the best in both if you use them correctly!
Does this build have very many dead levels? I can't imagine it does since rogue is a pretty strong class up until other martials get their extra attack at 5, but at that point you've already started working towards bard. I guess maybe between bard 1 and 3 would be dead levels, but it seems to do its job at any other point in time
I don’t think there’s any “dead levels” really. I’m least excited about the last 2 lol
I did 4 thief, 5 gloomstalker ranger, 2 levels fighter. Man it is a lot of fun
I did gloomstalker the first time made this build and called it Gunslinger, it’s hella strong
How are you having 2 actions to cast screech and then attack? Do you drink potions? Or have other party members cast haste on you?
Sometimes I use haste, sometimes you can use a blood lust potion, this character can use his action to use items like screech and shoot with his bonus action becuase he has two weapons in his hands. He has two bonus actions too so he can shoot a few times
I can't even get to balder's gate before I can beat the game. 50min. credit video LOL. I can't get past Lvl 8 with Kale and his heart attack and boom game over. Moon towers is easy at lvl 8 I can't imagine being lvl 12. Am I missing something and beating the giant worm is not the end of the game?
Yeah definitely not the end of the game my friend, dont use gales explode and just keep playing
@@rollforbooty ok thank you.
Umm..where's the gun? All I see is a crossbow.
squint harder at it and it looks like a gun lol
Why the AI image, tho?
for what we need 5 lvl rogue,7 bard if we dont care about spells and sneak attack- we range fighter. we can to 4 rogue+6 bard+2 warrior who gives us action surge+second fight style (archery+dual hand),next what a hell with start dex and charisma?
