I have always struggled with electrical circuitry. And I’ve watched many videos over my years to learn from. This was one of the most educational videos I have ever watched for me, because I really have a hard time following circuitry
Hi my name is Roy I have a2004 Nissan central 1.8l that has a no no spark condition I have so far tried to fix it my self changing the crankshaft position sensor a nd camshaft position sensor I also replaced the fuel pump and checked the computer and there is still no spark so there's got to be a short in the wiring either by the fuel injectors or the coil plug wires any insight would help
@@rosarioinserra2599 You probably have an open circuit not a short circuit. At this point more guessing would result in more wasted time & money. Take it to a good diagnostic shop

I 've had this short tool for years and never used it. Now that I've seen you use it, I will be using it for all my shorted circuits. I too own a Power Probe II and use it constantly for trailer light glitches. Love it. Thanks for the lesson, Sir.

This has to be the absolute best demonstration I've ever seen to solve an active short. Aka grounded power or vise versa on any circuit. You should be given the medal of honor alongside a title of greatest teacher of the year award. I'm 43 and have had this one problem blocking my mechanic skills keeping me held on a level of frustration that's caused several vehicles to receive body damage from my impatience. You sir have my allegence and upmost respect. I'm forever indebted to your knowledge and will seek more of your intellectually advanced demonstrations of superior mechanical abilities from this day forward with a guaranteed solution and satisfaction I've never had before. Thank you Sir for giving this wisdom to me and sharing your video with the world for others to seek if they are willing to learn how to do things themselves and not be dependent on the system in any way.

I agree. Excellent teacher. I learned more than I've ever known about wiring and shorts... and I've worked on my cars for decades. I didn't think I could understand electrical until he explained it so well. I'm very grateful for this.
You gave me the confidence to chase my short. The source of my short was the damn sun visor. The voltmeter confirmed it 5 minutes later. I'm glad to have my lights and clock back. Thank you! I love how detailed you get. It's very satisifying for a technical person like myself.

That was one of the best videos I've seen! You covered every step tracing that short in detail the way it should be explained. The little amp meter really did it's job. Emphasizing at very start that; in this case, we were working with amps and not volts got us viewers oriented. Some of us may have jumped right away into using a volt meter and we would have been lost from step one. Thank You.
Best tester ever just wish I found this video first. Once I connected your tested found the short IMMEDIATELY. I purchased a tone testers which failed to find the short. Thanks again for helping me get the car started. The dealer couldn't figure it out and charged me an hourly fee.....Glad I was determined to find something to give me the clue. Your tester surely did that....I can't say enough about this but it works darn GREAT
What a raw display of power! This is very similar to my college days. I had instructors that were ex military. I learned so much from those guys. You have been an instructor before or should consider becoming one now. I'm 74. My instructors helped developed the redstone rocket. I had the ability to be good but they, by being teachers of a very high level opened doors for me that I had only been able to dream about.
You are an excellent teacher Wayne. Most of the time when guys say they can fix something, they usually can't, and usually end up creating more problems.

Very good lesson, thank you. One note about the use of the word “short”. In trade school 60 years ago they explained that there are three terms for electrical problems. Short, open and ground. Short- is copper to copper. Open- is copper to nothing. Ground - is copper to steel. With your situation you did not know if you had a short or grounded circuit, until you found the problem.
This video is WAY under viewed. This tool RULES!!! I send people to it all the time. I bought this from a guy and he said he replaced the dash, and there Is something rattling like crazy when I hit certain bumps.maybe he changed the heater core and didn't bolt everything back up. Sometimes a good deal Isn't worth the trouble. Love your videos. They really help us poor folk.
Thanks for your comments. Yes, some people leave out clips and bolts, usually because when they remove them they put them all in a container. when going back together they go out of order and end up with "extra" bolts.

Great illustrations you got there,quite informative ....reminds me when i too had an active short for sometime back, then luckily as i was working on the sump guard saw a spark from the positive cable running directly from the battery touching the exhaust manifold. Saved me a trip to the mechanic. Loose cables and the exhaust manifolds are never great friends.

If only I had seen this video the day it was posted. I've got a '94 Grand Cherokee, that had a dead short which started acting out on the 17th. Kept blowing the 40A ignition switch fuse. Finally tracked it down, but without the diagram or the knowledge of how to read one, finding the short was difficult. Finally did find it though. Thanks for the great vids. Wish every mechanic had as much common sense/knowledge as you do!

You and I started fixing cars before all the computer-assisted controls and diagnostics. All we had was our minds and what the old timers taught us. DUDE!!! I've dealt with electrical for over thirty years now. I'm a marine technician. I must admit that some parts of electrical stuff is a mystery to me. I have a '99 Jeep with electrical issues. I have tried repeatedly with no luck. This video gives me hope. Your explanations are clear, concise easy to understand. I learned more from this video than anyone else, I think. Outstanding representation of how to trace a short using those darn waterflow diagrams I never understood and wrongly used voltmeters. You are right. No substitute for proper troubleshooting knowledge. I'm reading this on my I-phone now. When I get to my pc I'll order the tool and gladly buy it there. Alan

Awesome video. I haven't seen one of those short finders in years. I can remember using a heavy duty turn signal and a test light . Blast from the past. Some logical thinking.

The tool is great, but where do you get such detailed wiring diagrams? In my Haynes book, I don't see such details.
Excellent video that details trouble shooting technique that can be duplicated by anyone. I find shorts differently, but your system is low cost & doesn't require advanced electrical/electronic training. Well done, as always.

DUDE!!! I've dealt with electrical for over thirty years now. I'm a marine technician. I must admit that some parts of electrical stuff is a mystery to me. I have a '99 Jeep with electrical issues. I have tried repeatedly with no luck. This video gives me hope. Your explanations are clear, concise easy to understand. I learned more from this video than anyone else, I think. Your very thorough explanations of the drawings and the use of the testing tools was very helpful. Thanks again. I've already subscribed and I will be visiting the links to buy one of those testers. Such a simple yet cool tool.

Outstanding representation of how to trace a short using those darn waterflow diagrams I never understood and wrongly used voltmeters. You are right. No substitute for proper troubleshooting knowledge. I'm reading this on my I-phone now. When I get to my pc I'll order the tool and gladly buy it there.

3 dislikes on this video? What's to dislike? This is an excellent video on finding a direct short. The only way someone could dislike it is strickly from JEALOUSY. I see this on TH-cam all the time. It must be some small-minded way of showing superior knowledge to the one posting the video. Best video I have ever seen on finding a direct short.
Awesome video. I haven't seen one of those short finders in years. I can remember using a heavy duty turn signal and a test light . Blast from the past. Some logical thinking.

you are one true master tech. I had taken the test and never made it , missed the tests by 6 to well no morer than 6 each test!! I was really upset. So with my experience I certified myself,lol, i like this video!! very informative!!
