The Dark Ritual was sold on site for $48,000.
Yeah, I was about to say that. That's an insane price to pay, but then again, I don't have that kind of money to just spend on cardboard. Or anything, really, so maybe that's just jealousy or envy?
I heard about this on mtggoldfish.
There's also a confirmed 7,000 sale on eBay from the week before
If there’s only 4 in existence, them this was definitely bought by a high-end dealer who will get it graded and slabbed and held onto for a sale of many multiples of that in a few years time!
The Urza's Brainstorm was bought up by one vendor. They have the full playset and iirc paid 30k to get the last one.
Checks TH-cam for something to watch. "New PK video - Came out 39 seconds ago!" Hot dang!
I will never forgive WOTC for making the Snapcaster Miku rare
it’s the bonus card for the winter drop, just wait a few months
What do you mean rare? I got it as the bonus card for one of mine
@@winniebowser4447 big if true, I hope so. Where did you hear that?
@sylverfyst Well, I've gotten one of all of the drops so far without getting one. Plus it's pretty expensive online.
@@runninsniperthe art appears more winter themed, and the collector number is in line with what the bonus card for the winter drop is set to be.
You missed the Snapcaster Mage Miku secret lair version, that card has a buying price of $2000+ in Japan, which could be in the top3 of this list.
Yeah. on TCG player the card has a $1115 asking price.
My wife and I both got a copy in our sld. Her's English and mine japanese.
I bought english and jp versions of both secret lairs, got the worst extra card every time :/
I managed to get the English one, but listing are random. It'd dropped to 800 in some areas and more in others. Mine came in damaged so I reached out to wizards.
I still believe it will be the winter bonus card
I have to believe
Secret lairs are great, they should do B&R announcements via secret lairs instead of blog posts
the early era of Secret Lair is done now.
we can expect them to do everything they can to squeeze money out of this sub-brand of theirs, while giving us less and less, on their way to as little as possible.
If Mystery Booster 2 isn't getting a Retail release, I'm seriously gonna have to reevaluate who I'm throwing my money at.
@@johnpisser1983only now? WOTC do this kind of stuff all the time.
@@MasterP86 WoTC did a tournament ruleset where you were forced to use cards from every release in a specific block if you wanted to qualify at all, back during the 'good days' of the game. The decline started as soon as Richard Garfield (PhD)'s concepts were printed on actual cardboard.
The original serialized secret lair card was the mirrored viscera seer. Those are "worth" a pretty penny
A textless Llanowar Elf is fine, since even my grandmother knows what it does, but a Urza's Saga? Did they add lead in the coffee machine at Wizards?
I really do hate how many of those cards ended up locked to "can you afford to go to a convention and still only have a CHANCE to get a copy?"
Hey Vince. Just so you know, that Dark Rit sold for 48k on site
I knew all this before watching the video, but somehow I was still overwhelmed and confused by Secret Lairs. Working as intended.
Alpha Shivan Dragon laughs at this (and is also one of many proofs that the Reserved List is a hoax).
Odd given they have maintained the cards on the actual list
This comment demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of the reserved list
That dark ritual apparently sold for $50k usd at the tournament.
Surprised that the Reverse print Viscera Seer serialized didnt make the top ten
Miku's Encore Electromancer is around $1k.
Norin the Wary as the "secret card" in the Outlaws Showcase Secret Lair set this spring was pretty fantastic flavor though. They tried to add him to the list, but he phased out.
Nice intro. I, too, have come in a Secret Lair.
That thoracle is absolutely gorgeous
No mention of the mirrored serialized Viscera Seer that was the first-ever serialized Magic card. Only 100 in existence and was included in the Phyrexian Praetors Secret Lair.
The dark ritual was sold at GenCon to a vender for $48,000.
@11:23 you kind of went drunk there for a second :D
This guy waffled for 5 minutes before the video actually gets going
I know all 4 of the Brainstorms were on consignment together as a playset. I don't remember the asking price, but they didn't sell. I saw Anuraag list his for sale after the fact.
You had a picture of the packaging for the serialized Merfolk of the Pearl Trident, but it wasn't included in the list (or I spaced out when you talked about it) It was released last summer (I have one from GenCon). It has pretty consistently been in the 500-700 range on eBay, after originally hitting the market at 1200.
It looks like one is on CardMarket for 5000 euros now though. Not going anywhere, imo, at that price.
That Wrenn and Six is available to buy at my LGS. An acquaintance of mine won it and immediately sold it off
The Secret Lair PlayTest Counterspell are listed for around $800. Not much, if any at all, sold data on them though.
I was explaining to someone today just how much value old secret lairs were worth. At the time, the 39.99 price tag meant that if you bought it, you were effectively buying a Sliver Overlord plus shipping. The Ur-Dragon was free. The Reaper King was free. The bonus card(Which could be a stained glass Nicol Bolas Dragon God) Was free. Then the value started dropping down and conveniently each drop was worth about as much as buying the cards was but with special art. Now they don't even do that. Sometimes the drops have literal actual garbage in them(I recall one of the LOTR drops maxing out at like a dollar's worth of cards) sometimes they're worth it for other reasons, like the Dan Frazier signets. But you could always choose to buy them or not. Now they sell out so I guess it doesn't matter if they have reprint value or not.
I like getting these Secret Lairs in the mail at home, especially when work is busy and it’s a delightful surprise and some are great in my cube or collection. Been ordering them off and on there for a year or two. Favourite ones so far: Jurassic World, Bob Ross, Pride Across the Multiverse, Fallout, Princess Bride, and My Little Ponies
I wouldn't call Meyoco's art anime, it's just cute. Also, clouds. Pink clouds.
nope that shivan dragon sale was legit, it was my friend who's an obsessive dragon hoarder/collector lol
Brain storms are like 25k and the Dark Rits sold for 48k
Dark ritual sold for $48000 onsite last week I believe
Seeing as there's only 4 of those Brainstorms, I could see them going for $15k or more. I mean, the serialized TOR sold for 2mil... The whales are hungry.
The signed baseball versions did replace the extra card.
Pretty sure i saw going around on reddit that someone was asking 200K for the brainstorm. Which is absurd.
There's a Serialized Shivan on StarCity right now for $750 USD.
As always, this is never the fault of the publisher but the 2nd market seller that prices astronomically based on some arbitrary valuation. If someone obtains the only copy of a card that exists in the world and uses it to light a joint, it would be worth $0 on the secondary market and would always have been worth $0 (or the price of ink and cardboard) from start to finish.
Scalpers are like oh baby time to make 20 accounts and get my software ready to buy as many as possible in seconds
Seeing Fay Dalton's name on the Liliana >.>
The anime shadowborn is actually so expensive as it's only obtainable in Look at the Kitties Secret Lair, which on its own is super desirable
I don't believe there was a serialized card at Chicago MagicCon either, at least I didn't see anything posted about one.
TOA Magic had the playset of the Brainstorms on display at Chicago for 400k - I think they were trying to sell them on consignment for the owner.
theres a picture i found in google of a dude who has all 4 copies of the urza brainstorm and he wants 400k for all four.
More interested in the most expensive Secret Lair cards that came out of the normal package and were not "special rare inserts" or event winners.
9:27 Yeah my LGS had one of these in the case under the register. After almost a year of seeing it and thinking about jumping on it, they were having a huge discount day and I snagged it for just under 200$ I think.
If I was into Fallout, I would purchase that Mana Vault in a heartbeat.
WOTC knows there are a lot of suckers out there (like me) with plenty of disposable income to spare 😂
Alright Jimmy Big Bollock - if you have so much cash to throw around, join my Patreon.
Yeah I got scalped on Ebay for both Miku Secret Lairs on Ebay. The second ones less so but still could not miss those
People like you are the problem of pretty much every hobby
I pop laxatives to feel something too!
Not as much as the Brainstorm/Murktide, but the Ugin, The Spirit Dragon Showdown foil recently sold for ~$900
Countdown Kit Chrome Mox is pretty close with Opal, regular are around $95 with foils being around $140, Its a bit like Jace though where they the foil/nonfoil was random so if you counted the foil it would be 10th
Dark ritual was sold for 48,000
Being 100% proxies already feels pretty good. Then I see videos like this and think "It's going to be great sliding a piece of printer paper with that 4-digit art on it into a sleeve."
you’re weird man
While for play purposes, I really support this, but some ppl just like to collect. I have all Phyrexian Praetors and some other cards I just wanted to have. And I just now use proxies of them in my decks, lol.
Proxies are great, but the real deal is *chefs kiss*
Wow you are so cool you should give yourself a medal
You're 100% they aren't proxies. Touch some grass
@vince, did you happen to get a mana vault? Just curious as I know you are a big fallout fan and I recall you saying you were going to get the secret lairs?
Nope. Iirc, I got double Wastes. 🙃
@@PleasantKenobi damn, sorry dude. I guess it’s better than nothing though.
What I'm hearing is that aside from 2 cards you have to win the secret lair lottery to have value
Gambling with extra steps. Which is kinda what Boosters have always been but shhh.
I'm with you on the completely outside the anime/mtg nerd "circle" as you called it. I have absolutely zero interest in anime.
I also find it funny how not watching anime has become a fairly rare thing In the past few years as opposed to a decade ago where weebs were relentlessly bullied
the foil ugin is pretty pricy
I remember someone posted on reddit a Vender with all the Urza Brainstorm at 250,000 each (may be wrong about the price)
Wrenn and six has foil and none foil versions.
Opened two Fallout secret lairs but no mana vault luck. Wish I knew about the Elesh Norn, I missed on that one but I’ve been buying Secret Lairs more lately. Brain Dead foil bundle just showed up. Wanted a chaos warp but I only pulled evolving wilds.
Nah man, my proxy SL Shivan Dragon cost like ten cents
I got a proxy of that Dark Ritual! It’s so beautiful
People when rare cards from a collectible card game are rare and expensive: 😱
Skipped 30th anniversary retro foil chrome mox? Its currently worth more than the etched opal.
5 minutes until the first card Jesus Christ dude
8:58 what in the high guardian spice is that art?
Don't you dare compare that dumpster fire to this work of art. It's just a mage under a cloudy sky in a dark forest. What's the deal?
Im glad i own a mana vault but the holo is miss cut
I am the proud owner of the Shiven Dragon #295/295
"I'm not a weeb" hmmmm sounds like something a weeb would say...
You know, I'm just not vibing with every vid needing to have some sort of joke about actual shit.
secret lair is just hasblo selling singles to screw LGS
Sweet, thanks for the list. I'll go update my proxy order now
I hate how secret lairs have the "lottery" cards now. If they're going to make a flavor bonus card, it should be included in the secret lair it goes with. Not a chance to get it. I really wanted the mana vault and I feel that in one of the three that I bought, I should've gotten it.
2:22
Well, well. Glad I don't collect such cards, I'd have to work a few extra jobs then and have no time to enjoy the cards anymore. Lose-lose 😀
New approach by wotc - Screw the players.
it's been going on for a while now no
The whole "Wont anyone care about the readability for new players!!" feels like pearl clutching.
Not really. It's a very fair observation for the on boarding of new players through a haze of cognitive load. Hence why I pointed out Secret Lairs being a good spot for the more bizzaro stuff.
New players, schmew players. Stop making me work harder to parse my commander games.
@@PleasantKenobi I remember as a kid when I could pick and choose out of 4 different booster boxes at my LGS.
Now when I think of getting back into magic there's like 20 products I could get and Foundations seems like the only clear one to get. But before that was released, I was really choice paralyzed.
Can't imagine what it would've been like if on the school yard I was the sucker who bought the Assassin's Creed packs while my classmates picked the Modern Horizons ones 😂
That’s a lot of self-loathing of your G.I. tract just to feel something, boss. lmao
In the serialized group there'd one guy who has over 20 of those shivans as it's his collector card. He has a significant collection of alpha beta and unlimited ones as well as summers
secret lehh
fun fact, you cannot scalp a cosmetic upgrade to a card game
Yes you can. You can scalp anything.
@@PleasantKenobi no you cant, thats not what that word means. you "scalp" tickets to a show or sports event because if you dont buy it now your chance goes away forever as the event is a one time deal. by that logic every card pulled out of a 5 dollar pack sold over 5 dollars is a scalp. market will adjust the values of the secret lairs regardless of who buys them or not.
@@jarad9946 I get sold a limited 1000 quantities of a sexified set of cards a certain group of people is willing to buy in a certain time frame afterwards they will never be sold by the official source again.
800 of those quantities are bought up by speculators.
200 actual fans and consumers get what they want.
1400 people are left unhappy, because they too wanted to have the sexified cards.
Oh hey 800 sets of the cards are being sold on the secondary market at surplus price.
I wonder if people have a word to describe this process...
And whether it has been used by the general public for goods which are available at limited stock... No. Can't think of one. Too bad languages and the meanings of words can't change over time. Otherwise I could use this "scalping" term. And maybe others would too.
Nintendo Switches were available in limited stock numbers before Christmas.
But Nintendo Switches aren't made to be Christmas presents, they're just video-game consoles.
So all those articles about aftermarket resellers being "scalpers" were just fundamentally wrong! Checkmate 😎
Is that what you said to yourself when that happened.
Because I doubt anyone cared
