Thank you! It gave me the confidence to order the correct ice maker from Amazon and install it myself. I looked at a couple of other videos and thought your's explained and demonstrated the procedure best. I probably saved at least $150 by not having to pay a tech do it.
Same here as a few others, we have a Kenmore Fridge 795.73055.410, and the original ice maker part number was AEQ73110208 yet it was discontinued and replaced with the AEQ73110210. Your video helped out a lot, I was able to swap out our ice maker in 5 mins because of watching it. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Dan. This video was mostly spot on. A couple things I encountered. I have a Kenmore fridge that's made by LG. The Amazon model search for ice maker doesn't match up. I had to go to the Kenmore parts site to get model number of ice maker. As Kevin mentioned, there's just 4 screws to remove assembly from fridge and just loosen, without removing , top screw so you can just slide assembled unit under screw and water spout when reinstalling. When changing out icemaker from rear panel, there's 2 screws on top, behind tray. Remove the right screw. Mine had a thin piece of foam covering the temperature sensor bulb that I had to be careful not to destroy. I was sure my icemaker needed replacing because the gear, that twists the tray, would slip during last part of the dumping cycle. I would have never attempted this had it not been for this excellent video. Thanks, again!
I have a LG LMXS30776S fridge with an ice maker assembly P/N AEQ73110210. The ice maker quit working over the Xmas holiday. I found this clip and did the hair dryer trick mentioned in some of the comments here. I used a hair dryer for about 1 min to heat up the ice maker, especially the left side where the motor is. I also tapped on the motor to loosen any stickiness. After using the hair dryer, I pressed the "reset" button again and the unit began to move to dump out some ice there and I could hear the water fill it up again. Thought I want to confirm this hair dryer trick since it works great for me. Thanks Danny for posting this clip also.
Hi Dan. Good video but for anyone watching now, you do not have to remove the upper right screw to remove the ice maker assembly. That screw attaches the motor/tray assembly to the larger panel.
My icemaker recently froze up also. Reading the owners manual the suggested remedy was to replace water filter, which I did at a cost of $53 ! No deal, still jammed. This morning I took a hair dryer and applied heat to the gear box mechanism for about 1 to 2 minutes. Pressed the test button and the unit began to move. Pressing the test button again, it filled with water. This afternoon I was able to dispense ice!! Just thought I would share this, save some folks from having to buy a new unit up front.
WILLIAM SLATIC: holy crap man!! This did it for me and it only took 10-15 seconds!! I kept on pressing the reset button numerous times and it wasn’t working. I was at the point of giving up but I’m stoked that I found this post. Thanks a lot!!
Thanks William! Hair dryer worked for me too! After using hair dryer for about 3 min a small piece of ice fell out, and then about 2 minutes later the reset button worked again and now my dispenser is moving again!
This was terrific! Saved me a service call. Thank you so much! Thanks also to other people leaving comments. I tried the hair dryer/drying out trick and motor was still dead. Found the right part, but as you noted you must take the unit apart to see the part number. You will need to reuse the screws you used to take the kit apart from the backing plate.
This also works for the aeq72910414 which is a similar part and fitment. Thank you for this very helpful installation video. Buying and installing the part myself saved me over $500 and a one month repair wait.
Thanks for the video. Any idea what the blue wire/plastic probe does? Mine was inserted behind the foam upside down. It didn’t appear to clicked into anything.
Thank you for the video. I would reiterate how important it is to assure you get the part with the correct main connector. I received 2 with the wrong connector before I was able to find the right one. Search for your part based on the actual part number, instead of by the fridge model, which can get you the wrong part. The video was most helpful in reminding me where to route the wires.
Thank you Danny T I replace my ice maker last evening having watched your video one time. Couldn't have done it without your help and saved a bunch of $$. Thanks again for posting!
You don’t need to remove to screw in the top left (the one with the big white washer). Just loosen it and the ice maker slides down and out. It would have been nice to show the removal.
Thank you for this video. I have a different model but the instructions were nearly the same. I've never replace an ice maker before but you made it simple! It filled with water, now let's see if it makes ice. My old one literally broke the tray at the hinges because of ice buildup. I highly suggest clearing of this ice every 6 months to year.
Read the comments on here about using a hair dryer for a few minutes on it. So glad I tried it because it worked! First time it's ever done. Now I know, thanks!
I put in the new ice maker and I'm waiting for ice. My old one was a AEQ73110210 and the new one was a AEQ73110211 FYI. I'm guessing they made an update. The main plug was the same. Thanks for your video, it was a real help installing the new ice maker.
This video was extremely helpful. It was nice and has many details. Thank you! I'm sure others who need to replace their LG ice maker will find this video useful too.
Thanks for the video! Mine ended up working after unplugging and replugging in the fridge itself. I got the idea off the manufacturers site for troubleshooting. Reason being sometimes a voltage surge will shut off the motor and I remember out power going out a while back around the time it stopped working. Whew! Glad it was an easy fix for me, hope this helps anyone else out there too. having same issue.
We have the same fridge I replaced the ice maker as shown, it fit, fills with water but won't drop the ice? It drops if I hold the reset button for 3 seconds? What did I do wrong? Thanks. Great video!
QUESTION: When the tray cycles through, it twists. I assume this is normal operation to release the cubes? Hey, thanks for the great video. Went on vacation and forgot to turn it off! I used a hair dryer before I watched your video. I was ready to replace the whole shebang BUT... I didn't know about the test button! Great tip. I unfroze things and pushed the test button and it worked! The water is freezing now for the ultimate test. Fingers crossed. Thanks again for making the video and sharing your expertise.
If you’re still having trouble with the ice bucket freezing and clumping up, specifically on the right side of the bucket, that’s an indicator that you likely have calcium buildup on the end of the fill tube and it’s splashing over when filling. The front dispenser will usually be coming out like a jet steam too. Stick a small eyeglasses screwdriver or something similar about 1/4” up inside the tube and rotate it around to clear the tube. You’ll see the calcium buildup break away and the water will start coming out better. Do the same thing for the ice maker fill tube. Remove the icemaker and you’ll have access to the tube. This is very common. And before you say “but I have a water softener....” I’ll tell you most water softeners bypass the fridge so you don’t have salty softened water for drinking and ice cubes.
If you came here getting ready to order the replacement part try something. Take out your ice maker assembly- let it thaw on the counter for a few hours- reconnect it and test it. Ive found that some condensation at some point got in the works, froze, and made the motor seize up. Works just fine after thawing/drying out.
Kevin Gray, I almost don’t believe it but this worked for me... removed the assembly and let it sit overnight, put it back in and it’s working fine. (It was NOT iced up in the least.)
Great help. Thanks! Not exactly the same as mine, but close enough. I have LG LFX28978ST and had to get part AEQ73110205 due to the connector type. Very important to confirm connector type, which you point out. Thanks again.
GREAT VID! Thanks! Like most commenting on this vid & others - mine just stopped working after 2yrs(ironic - 1 month after warranty expired!!!) YES - The TEST button(its not a RESET button) allowed it to fully operate - rotate, dump ice and fill. The next problem is it will not perform this on its own! No ice dumped after 8 hours of waiting. Lifes' NOT GOOD!!
Update: LG Tech is coming out to hopefully replace the compressor. Cooling was erratic with 54 deg to 40 deg at times. Fridge should be 33 deg & ice a -1 The ice maker WILL NOT OPERATE if the sensor reading shows warmer. I have been informed by a friend who is a certified tech(hey - they see this all the time) that LG & Samsung are both terrible with compressors going out with in 18 months!!
I was worried. I chisled some ice of the inside door of the ice compartment. It would make noise. I tried turning the ice maker on and off. I left it open for a little bit and notice a little ice on the lip where it turns. Anyhow, after seeing your video about the small reset button underneath the motor, the unit turned completely. Looks like it's working just fine now. If it doesn't turn after making ice, then I will look into replacing, but for now it's working again. Thanks!
nice job, thank you very much for the detailed DIY, certainly save us a service call. Our mistake was relying on LG site for model# to buy, note to self...next time be sure ALL connections look the same..we had to order a different part but 2nd time around we had it downpat...
I thought the ice maker in my similar LG refrigerator was broken. It turned out that the machine was simply jammed/frozen. While watching your video, I saw the location of the test button. Having had the door open for a while, things must have thawed enough that when I pressed that switch, the mechanism rotated nearly all the way around. I was then able to clear the remaining jam and my ice maker appears to be working properly once again. Makes me wonder why LG doesn't mention that test button in their manual. Anyway, thank you so much for posting such a detailed video. Now, if my ice maker ever does break, I know how to replace it myself.
Dan-very helpful installation video-I installed the ice maker. However, when I tested it, the ice making tray spins but once it gets to the upside down position, it begins to bind up on the right side. The left side continues but the right side binds and looks as if it is going to snap. Any advice?
That's normal. One side of the tray twist to break the ice off. If you think about it, take a ice tray and try to turn it upside down, it won't fall off unless you twist it.
This is awesome! Anyone know if the measuring meter thing he says at 1:49 is the thermostat? I need to purchase a new one but want to make sure I’m buying the correct piece
Thanks man!!! your friggin awesome for posting this. I tried the Hair Dryer no luck and ended up pulling apart the whole motor assembly and hooking up the motor to old 5Volt power supply - it didn't want to work at first but then started a continuous spin. I'm guessing maybe I should have kept the hair dryer on longer or maybe it just needed a few more volts to get that motor turning??? either way, Put it all back together and it works. Would have never done it without this video.... THANKS AGAIN!
It won't empty the ice for you. Depending on your model, you might have access to the ice tray where you can flip it manually, but its probably better to get a new motor or a manual ice tray if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a new motor.
Hello, I have the same refrigerator that you show in the video. Mi ice is like too high/tall, so when it's done it goes down like a block and not individual. So the machine can never broke them. How can I down the level of water to have the ice with less high/tall?
On the left side of the assembly, there are two white wires encased in a clear flexible tube that cause the tray to twist at the end of the flip. It also causes the assembly to pull away from the upper left rear. Is this normal? If not, how is this issue fixed?
Good stuff, Danny. Ours does everything but DUMP the ice on its own. If I hold the test button for 3 seconds, the unit turns over, dumps ice, returns to normal position, and refills. New ice cubes are formed but never dumped.... might replace the unit as you are doing.
Same as mine. LG tech support has no clue and says it needs a service call. I just got done taking out the ice maker and ordering the replacement. Thanks for the video, Danny!
Alan Meijer im having the same problem, it makes ice but doesn’t dump them out, the only way to dump them is by hitting the reset but then it happens all over again, I tried cleaning the sensors but nothing helps might just need to replace it
Isabel Robles ours started by not dumping ice then our freezer and fridge started getting hot and everything melting. The tech come out and saw that it was leaking freon so it started cooling again and now it dumps ice and everything works
Isabel Robles we bought our lg at sears and used their service repair guy, but I think if you have several problems like 3 with a fridge they replace it with a new one but anyways we got ours about 2 years ago and our 2 year warranty expired right before this happened to us but could be the same problem as us or the compressor which is causing your fridge to not cool just keep an eye on the fridge and freezer temp because our food went bad too
Isabel Robles no I have no idea I would just call Lowe’s and ask or see because ours was around 4K and it’s nice only I would’ve expected atleast more years of use with no problems but I was wrong lol
Mine goes through the motion but when dumping the ice it seems to twist the ice tray like you used to with old fashioned ice trays. Is it supposed to bind up or twist the tray on the right side? Your video cuts short of where mine seem to bind or twist.
@@jsandsintl yes, the condenser coil on the back of the fridge was packed with dust and was causing the fridge to not work very efficiently. After cleaning the fridge and ice maker started working way better. If that isn’t the problem, try unplugging it for a few minutes to reset it.
I changed the water filter than the ice maker did not work so I tried the blow dryer method and it seemed to move a little more than it did before, but not flip with the test button. So I pulled it out removing the four screws and shook two more pieces of ice out than put back in and it did work with the test button but it seemed as if it was binding. Is it suppose to twist at the end of the flip ? I thought it was going to break.
On the left side of the assembly, there are two white wires encased in a clear flexible tube that causes the tray to twist at the end of the flip. It also causes the assembly to pull away from the upper left rear. Is this normal? If not, how is this issue fixed?
can anyone help? i took apart my ice maker but i feel like the motor is giving out. i hit the test button and it works fine! but when i turn it off and on, the ice tray doesnt release the cubes. it gets stuck :( someone help! i think its the motor, but I'm confused to why it works when i test it
What do you mean it gets stuck? If it’s getting stuck upside down, it’s bad, needs replaced. If it rotates upside down, drops cubes, goes back upright, and fills - that typically means the icemaker is fine and something else is telling it not to cycle. If you’re hitting the reset button and it rotates, twists, and drops the cubes just fine, it means your freezer isn’t cold enough. The ice room needs to be below 15 degrees for it to cycle properly on its own. Usually what you will see, if this is the case, is the ice cube tray will be slightly tipped backwards but won’t complete the cycle without pressing the test button.
I found this video in trying to take out the ice maker. It froze full of water. It would not turn fully. My main problem is getting it out. For those with the same problem. The start of the putting it in is at 4:15 ish.
Any idea what temperature this ice maker holds? I am not hooking up the ice maker, and they don't make one without ice maker. So, I'd like to rip out the assembly in there and convert it into a usable space.
@Kenny Holt - that usually means you have a sealed system issue. If the ice room gets above 15 degrees it will automatically stop the icemaker as a safety precaution so it doesn’t keep pouring water. Put a thermometer in your freezer - it should be within 5 degrees of your setting on front. If it’s set at 0 and you’re temp in freezer is 20, it’s likely a sealed system issue and it’s under warranty. Call LGs 800 warranty number on the label inside the fridge. Compressor is typically covered for 10 years and coils for 7 (see owners manual)
I have the same ice maker and refrigerator. I had gotten a warranty and called them to fix both makers due to not working properly. They serviced my craft ice maker but never did anything to the top maker saying it was a water supply issue! 😢😡. If it was a water supply issue, I would not have a ton of craft ice in the tray and full balls after they replaced it. Backstory: the craft ice was only giving half or less than half balls and only maybe 2 or 3 on the setting of 6. Now I get full 6 balls a day! My top ice maker never fills up the bin like I'm imagine it should after a full night of running. I have to put it on Ice plus and still don't get a full bin of ice. So, is my ice maker broken? Monday, 3-18-24, my extended warranty is over. Would it be wise to just find and purchase a new maker and install myself? I even called LG service, and they said I need to go back to the store for the warranty for where I purchased it. I told them they already repaired the craft ice maker and don't have a record of it!!!! This irks me so bad!!
It sounds like a bad sensor or something not triggering to dispense more water onto the ice tray. Definitely call LG or the store you've purchased from again to see what they can do. If its a bad water supply. Have them check the PSI in your water lines and see if that matches the minimal refrigerator's recommended spec.
@@YoDan thank you. I don't think it is a water issue since I get 6 balls a day in my craft ice maker. But I will check. Just need to find a new ice maker for my model and do myself since the warranty is over on Monday
When removing the icemaker I find it impossible to remove the multi-pin connection attached to the icemaker from the main connection within the refrigerator body. Any suggestions? Is it just full with force to disconnect?
The multi-pin connection is "locked" to the main connection with a tabbed connector that is not really obvious. The tabs need to be "squeezed" to free it up. The "click" when reconnecting that he talks about in the video is these tabs locking into place.
The clip is in the middle of the top of the connector and is released by pushing down on the top of it. It has a gap in it that looks like a screwdriver slot, but it’s not!
Yes you should turn the water off. Fun fact....if you take the unit out to see the model number (listed on back), you will get error code E15.....and your fridge will stop working! So don't remove it and leave it out while you wait for the replacement to arrive!
Browsing found this useful video, but with a different problem, my ice cubes have a funny garlic taste and i have cleaned the ice bucket so many times. Has anyone had the same problem with their LG ice maker? BTW I read that it might be a plastic part in the ice maker giving it that foul taste, any suggestions?
how am i supposed to know what kind of fridge this was? i couldn't see the fridge before you took it all the way apart. sure you described it, but every fridge looks different
I used the hairdryer - didn’t work, then reset button - didn’t work, lastly i dismantle the whole damn thing, then just started peeing on me 😂 now it works
My refrigerator creates ice, but doesn't drop it into the dispenser bin below (it works when I force it with the reset button underneath). I had a repairman come out to diagnose it, and he said the issue is that the icemaker needs to be replaced (I assumed it was the ice level sensors, but that's attached to the entire unit). I bought a new unit online and replaced it with ease thanks to your video instructions. However, it didn't resolve the issue; the same problem occurs (where it fills up the ice tray, freezes, but doesn't automatically dispense it in the bin below). Did anyone experience the same problem, and if so, how did you fix it?
Michael Glick I have the same behavior. Replaced the ice maker, and everything *seems* to be working: tray fills, ice freezes, hit the test button and I get the “ding” and the tray dumps and refills. But it won’t do it on its own. Left alone, it just freezes a tray of ice cubes, but never dumps them out. Anyone have any suggestions on what to try?
@@DinizLand The issue was that my compressor was slowly dying. The freezer couldn't get cold enough to make ice. We had to ultimately replace the refrigerator with a new one :(
Just another helpful hint. While you are replacing this...just go ahead and replace the entire fridge and save yourself some headaches with this terrible company.

THANK YOU, DANNY! I just replaced my ice maker all by myself!
@@YoDan ok! Thanks. I did not see that done on your video! Man do I feel dumb!
@@treyledbetter7527 It does, it was just edited out of the video.
thank you so much, you helped me fixed my problem, GOD BLESS YOU
Thanks! This made it so easy. You’re a life saver.
Great instructions, helped me change mine quick and easy. Thanks!
Hey Dan what happened when the motor is stopped working what are the effect in the ice maker
It won't empty the ice for you. Depending on your model, you might have access to the ice tray where you can flip it manually, but its probably better to get a new motor or a manual ice tray if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a new motor.
Question idid take my apart . To look fot thi part number. Didn't have a part number. On the back . We're do you go to find it.
Danny do I need to shut the water off to my fridge before I pull the icemaker out to change it? It's the LG type like you showed. Thanks for the video
Dude! you saved me a couple hundred bucks. thanks!
Hello, I have the same refrigerator that you show in the video. Mi ice is like too high/tall, so when it's done it goes down like a block and not individual. So the machine can never broke them. How can I down the level of water to have the ice with less high/tall?
Great video. I will have to replace mine soon. Thanks for posting this.
thank you for the video my test button was hidden but i found and it worked thank you again
my ice tray cracked, cna I just replace that?
Our ice tray broke and can we just order a new one for our slim line Kenmore Elite.
Pretty dang good video. Thanks for posting it.
Np, hope it helps
This was perfect. You saved me hundreds.
Mine does the same. Did you figure out how to fix this problem?

This is probably a long shot, but you don't happen to have the ice tray portion of your old unit, do you? Mine cracked and is leaking.
Sorry, no I don't.
No worries. Thanks!
can anyone help?
i took apart my ice maker but i feel like the motor is giving out. i hit the test button and it works fine!
but when i turn it off and on, the ice tray doesnt release the cubes. it gets stuck :(
someone help! i think its the motor, but I'm confused to why it works when i test it
What do you mean it gets stuck?
Hair dryer worked for me after a few minutes of the hair dryer and turning the switch off and letting it reset walla it worked!
Hair dryer also worked for me... saved me from changing the whole ice maker. Thanks for the tip!
Hair dryer worked for me last night after a few minutes as well. Saved me a couple of hundred dollar repair.
Any idea what temperature this ice maker holds? I am not hooking up the ice maker, and they don't make one without ice maker. So, I'd like to rip out the assembly in there and convert it into a usable space.
Won’t work
Anyone know if this will work for a lfx25978st? Can’t seem to find any real information on it.
Mine fills up but doesnt dump ice, when I reset it dumps ice and fills up with water....then it doesnt dump ice again
Same here.
That's what mine does! Any solution to this? What did you two have to do to fix it?
Kenny Holt unfortunately I had to get a new fridge. Temperature sensor went bad AND it was leaking coolant (slowly). I bought a new Kitchenaid.
It ended being it needed a new compressor, I was lucky it was under warranty.
Worked just like you said. Thank you!!!
Thanks, your video helped a lot
Amazing video thank you
I have the same ice maker and refrigerator.
Thank you for the video! Very helpful!!
Yes you should turn the water off.
Fun fact....if you take the unit out to see the model number (listed on back), you will get error code E15.....and your fridge will stop working! So don't remove it and leave it out while you wait for the replacement to arrive!
Thank you. Sure made it look easy. .
Super helpful!!!!
BUFFALO BILL maybe replacing the filter?
how am i supposed to know what kind of fridge this was? i couldn't see the fridge before you took it all the way apart. sure you described it, but every fridge looks different
The brand is listed on the title.
I used the hairdryer - didn’t work, then reset button - didn’t work, lastly i dismantle the whole damn thing, then just started peeing on me 😂 now it works
can somebody please help me how to make my ice maker work I reset it and it's not working
I replaced mine and now water wont drop into the tray to make the cubes
I had to hit the test button apparantly. Thx for showing that
Thank you!!
Anyone else click the reset button and the tray stops upside down but won't return back to normal?
Wondering if you ever found a solution.. this is what mine has started doing.
