Apologies for the sound. During compression for upload.
the sound/mic compression noise got very destorted and i couldnt tell until it uploaded fully ( some of you noticed the first video uploaded sideways also 😂). So i dunno whats going on with TH-cam or my software... but ill try and avoiding it in the future. Thanks friends! ❤
Yea, upload can mess with things 🥹
didn’t even notice
I was in on Sunday, grabbed a couple!
How long does this code last? I have a long way to go before I'm ready for livestock but imma need these for sure

Babe wake up new snail just dropped
Lol
Im so happy someone has finally given these snails the attention they deserve! Thank you, these are beautiful snails and will change the aquarium hobby.
I bought 2 of these almost 8months ago. now i have 13.
What a like about these it’s easy take care of the orange and black color and some blueberry color shell is absolutely nice. they’re no the Heavy algae eater but is just nice to see them roaming around of your aquarium.
I agree 100%
what I appreciate about you is that you educate us scientifically and you give us the freedom to take risks in fish keeping (of course always being ready to admit mistakes, and separate fish that won’t go together). my failure is that I haven’t found a good place to buy live plants (cheapish) but that’s my next step. Also, I’m going to go down to our local canal and see if I can dig up a few.
Those are cute and colorful snails. Here in my nation, there's this endemic kind of "pond/mud snail" known locally as "Birabid" (Bullastra Cummingiana) these snails are somewhat popular to local hobbyists but I think it's still not largely known by hobbyists outside of my country. Cute and entertaining little snails with unique squishy and glutinous look on their shells
Very cool! Are you in The Philippines? That's the only place I think I've seen them. Maybe Taiwan hobbyist too? But yeah those are neat looking!
@@Fishtory Yes, I live in the island of Luzon
Oooooh i want one so bad! I have mysteries and nerites, and these would do so well in my tanks. Will have to keep my eyes peeled!
Fish4ever is where a commenter above said s/he's already ordered some. I'm cking it out when I finish watching this. 😊
Good luck!
They are fascinating. I’m looking into getting live-bearing snails. They remind me of piano snails that I think are also pretty.
I was seeing if you had a video about these snails a week or so ago. Great timing Alex! It's like you read my mind!
Hope you enjoy!
Hope you enjoy!
@@Fishtory It's awesome! I've been considering getting some.
They're stunning little buggers!!
Yeah they grow up looking somewhat plain on the shell...but I think it's due to my water parameters and their diets. Wild ones stay more purple to dark red shelled
Daryl went from slaying zombies to growing aquarium animals i love this epilogue.
Lol
So funny you just posted this, I just got my hands on 3 blueberry snails myself from Chan, one of his Mods ordered them for me, getting them tomorrow from him!!!! I'm so excited! I so hope they reproduce ! Thank you for this video.
Have fun! Oh and tell Cheng I say hello next time :) I'm trying to get him to sponsor an aquascape, or let me do one in his store for the channel haha
wow Jackie Chan sold you snails ? Amazing.
@@markvanderstelt8999 Actually I missed the G. Should have been Chang. My bad! haha. Got them today, they are amazing.
Rabbit snails give live birth too 😂 and are some of my favorites. I can't wait for these to be become more readily available.
Yes they are super cool
I just got these from Fish4Ever!! She also had the breeding pair available so I got a male and female and they gave birth in the bag! Thanks for the video!
They have such cute antenna! Livebearing snails are so wild! Thanks for the video!
Right?!
I love all my snails!! I need these!
I only have like 3 species of snails, i need more!!
They are awesome get them! But they are excellent hiders and more nocturnal for me
Moonlight aquatics has em. Tell them I say hello please 🙏
i keep trap door snails. They are so cute
YES! So happy to see this video on BB Snails from you Alex. Great info. I preordered some from Fish4Ever.
Yay. Got my answer. Would you pls post how they are when you get em? 😂
@@vblackwell3347 for sure for sure!
Moonlight Aquatics has them in stock.
Moonlight aquatics has em for 14.99 I believe. Tell em alex sent yuh
@@Fishtory That is where I got mine!
Oh man! So happy for this video. I've been considering trying to get them, but just so many unanswered questions.
Glad it was helpful!
@Fishtory doing some additional reading (reddit) some people seem to say they are hard to care for. However lacked any additional information (if the tank was seasoned, what the parameters etc). If I can find any (Canada) I going to give them a shot. Found a few places that had them before your video, but they are all sold out now.
I want one of these soooo much. I adore snails
Oh yes. All part of the eco system.
These look amazing. It is always exciting to see something new appear in the hobby!
Amazing! I just heard about these today and searched them and low and behold you have a video on them from just 10hrs ago. So cool and hope I can find some soon.
Awesome! Thank you for stopping by, and Goodluck!
they look marine with their colours
Right?!
Awesome! Such a cool snail, I want 3!
That's perfect
Really interesting little snail there with a lot of plus points. Breed different colour variants in the future and they could be at the top of the pile ! Great video Alex
I agree! Fingers crossed. Cheers
I love these Alexander, they are so cool to look at!
Lovely snails! But what I'm dying to see are those new koi sunburst type shrimp Chris has spotlighted on his channel. Those are some seriously cool creatures!
Oh I know! He's coming to Seattle and I'm gonna beg him with all my night haha
I am truly not a snail fan, but I’ve come to tolerate some species of them. This is one that I would love to add to my planted tanks.
Yeah exactly haha. Same here
Breeding them as well.
Good bye nertite snail, see you later mystery snail, hello beautiful and useful creature!
😅
Oh, these are cool. It is always cool to see new snails!
Thanks for the info on these cuties! Yes I think snails are cute and NOT sorry, I have quite a collection in all my tanks! But no live plant eaters need apply😁☮❤🐠🦐🪴🐌
Haha you tell em' ! ( me) snails are people too
@@Fishtory indeed they are and important ones at that! All hail the snail nation 😆
Ooh, these are astonishing! Thank you Alex and Chris for sharing this one for us!
You have me sold on a blueberry snail. Im heading out next weekend to the city so maybe ill find one. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work.
I found some on ebay in case that helps
Moonlight aquatics. Tell em alex says hi
I just checked out moonlight aquatics and was going to purchase until I noticed the $60 shipping.
Excellent video! The whole transition gender snail thing was a interesting thouhgt, we need more research and hobbiest breeding them
It's pretty nuts, but snails are ancient and notorious for odd reproduction lol
Yeah lol basically underwater rabbits for most species
Love how that shrimp basically just climbs over the snail. I just love the symbiosis of a community aquarium
I just ordered some and I had them in a burger rock so I can watch them
They immediately had two babies and I'm just so thrilled I'm really excited to observe them
They look and sound amazing!!! I'll have to check them out. Thank you Alex
I just got some of these today, so excited to see them grow and make babies!
Congrats 👏
Thank you, this was very interesting. I was thinking about getting these.
Thanks to you, I just ordered my blueberry snail (and other critters) from Moonlight Aquatics. Thanks so much for the detail care guide and all your aquatic nerdfest vids :-) cheers from Michigan
Glad I could help! Did you get the 10% off too? " FISHTORY10" Code
@@Fishtory well, I knew about the discount but didn’t use it cause I can afford it and wanted to help out his new business. Thanks again, you take this hobby to a whole other level
Neat trapdoor snail, love the spots!
I've been keeping the Japanese trapdoor, which is similar , and lives well in cooler water (my main colony is in a tub out in an unheated greenhouse, which also holds white cloud minnows).
I would definitely like to try the blueberry, if and when I get the right conditions:)
Very cool!
Fascinating!! Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for stopping in!
Wow that's amazing snail and Chris is a awesome guy I've seen lots of his videos and afew videos when he's been with Cory from aquarium co-op. Thanks Alex for sharing
I’ve had snails like this for a while, probably a different species but look similar with the live birth and everything.
Moonlight Aquatics has them in stock today for $11.99 plus shipping but I decided that I'm not in a hurry to grab them today as I already have a healthy population of rabbit snails that have given birth and golden mystery snails as well as black devil spike snails. But I'm getting ready to set up my 60 gallon tall tank and got on an email waiting list for blueberry snails at Aqua Imports for $7.99 plus shipping. I'm just going to put blueberry snails in that tank and not the other species of snails I keep. I watch all of your videos and thanks for this latest one.
So cool!! Maybe one day I will have some.
And that is pretty awesome discovering a new kind of snail.
There's a lot of them out there
Awesome video!! I just got a little group of these snails and one of them gave birth to two small snails!! Has anyone ever had one give birth to two or more? Either way it’s exciting!!
Yes. I had twins occur from one mother, oddly they were 2 different sizes slightly too
Love me some snails they are just interesting
The older I get, the more I enjoy just observing the less flashy animals
awesome!! i just came across these snails online and was wondering where they came from! thanks for the amazing video as usual!
Glad I could help!
i got mine today and it gave birth to two little babies at once
Oh whoa! I've never seen that. Very cool. Twins
So cute, and such an amazing shade of blue! Would love to get these one day myself 🥰
tysm for doing this video!! this snail is on my wishlist! 🙏
My pleasure 😊 cheers
the food scraping tooth-thing is called a radula.
Thank you for the video. Great information you shared. I am looking forward to finding some and working with them
This is so informative! Great job, fantastic reporting!🌻🌼🐝 Keep it up 🙌
Thank you! Will do!
wow, I was curious about those soil colored debris and curly cues. I thought they were trying to pull in food but it didn’t look like food; but that’s their waste, I get it. Also, the individualistic mechanisms of different aquarium species is so important to a well-balanced aquarium and I appreciate all the hard work you put into signifying the differences.
Why are snails so fascinating?!?❤😂🎉
I am lucky to have a few in my aquarium since 4 months, but I was given only limited explanation. Thanks a lot for your video, I know much more now and will check right now who is he or she ^^.
You are welcome. Exciting ... Snail reveal party!
I have 2 ❤
Good stuff glad I found your channel
Definitely subscribed
Awesome, thank you!
Had no idea there were livebearing snails. These are very nice looking too!
There is a very popular livebearing snail that is available at many pet shops and definitely online. It is the Malaysian Livebearing Trumpet snail (Melanoides tuberculata). They do not eat plants, they spend a lot of the daytime in the substrate, and are mostly active at night. They will help keep your substrate clean, and help clean the glass at night.
Very cool
Another awesome video. Thankyou :)
My pleasure!
So how do we get some?😉
Search online, they are very very limited.
Moonlight aquatics online, say I sent yuh hehe
Also, I'm sure more companies are dying to get ahold of them any day now.
I got some from Fish4Ever’s site, it’s actually cheaper because she has priority mail as an option but I think some sellers only have 1 day shipping
I want some !! 😍
Got me 4 a few days ago !!😁 Hoping they end up having babys😁
I'm sure a few will hehe
Fascinating - can't have one though because my ph is too low. I will add that to my fantasy set up with shell dweller chiclids...
I think the cichlids may "renovate" these shells lol. But it may work haha
@@Fishtory I don't believe shell dwellers eat snails. Some people keep them with nerites. I'm guessing from the colouration that these ones might be somewhat disagreeable to consume in any event.
This is huge news! 😢 Have been looking for the ideal burrowing snail for months. All snails had at least just one aspect that deterred me from them. I gave up on finding a snail that checked all the boxes until now
Glad to hear it
Thanks!
No problem!. And thank you so much for your support
thank you for this video, been waiting for a good care video for thise beauties , i hope they come to sweden
Oh, how darling. Will they be readily available commercially soon? I haven't gotten to the end of the video, so that may have already been answered. Still, I luv Mystery Snails.
😊
Yes indeed. I can get dozens at the moment. But they're pricey still
This is beyond fascinating!!!
This is so fascinating. I want some, but my tank has a pH of 6.4-6.5, would they tolerate that you think?
No they seem to really need close to neutral.
Beautyfull snail. One warning though, after keeping snails witn antennas i tanks with guppies, that was a big mistake. The guppies ate the antennas, and with open wound, they fell prey to the rest of the fish, and I lost my spixi snails (not the apple spixi snail.)
Good point! This species is relatively shy, but I have no idea If that would assist in protecting the snails at all
In my area(west java, Indonesia) they're edible and delicious, people have been consuming it for a long time
Thank you for all the explanation, you're may be the only one who made a video about this snail. My question is about sexing the males and females, i got one snail for now because it's still expensive in canada (20$ each), and I read on internet that males have thicker right antenna, the female have a small pocket to hold babies, your methode is easyer I think
I just prefer antenna length
@@Fishtory thanks for every piece of information you gave us her.
I have a small problem, is it normal for them to stay in the same place in my fish tank for more than 8h, my femal is on the top corner and is half in water and half in the air
@@Fishtory good news! She got a baby today!! A small snail like her!!!
They're sold out at Moonlight 😭 Can't wait to get my hands on these.
Friday hopefully the shipment lands I think
@@Fishtory I got some from Fish4Ever but one was DOA and one still hasn't come out of its shell in the last three days. I'm going to order some from Moonlight and hopefully my replacements from Fish4Ever come alive.
I love the stripes on the actual snail body very beautiful.. just saying, when I was young girl my brothers chased me around the yard with crayfish they caught in the river, and so to this day I am terrified of Cray fish lol also, maybe seemingly random question, how do you vacuum your aquarium without sucking up your shrimp? I feel like the answer is: if you plant well enough, you don’t have to vacuum very often.
Thanks!
Great video. I can't wait for another year or two till these are all over the Florida canals so I can get mine for free😂
Lol
Thanks, Alex (and @Chris Lukhaup)!
Cool for a snail 🐌 😎
Freshwater snails are soo underrated in the fishy hobby
Meanwhile, saltwater snails are living it large in the fishy hobby 😎
Nice info 👍
Really pretty/cute but not overwhelming, it can't be a high priority for me, over so many things on my lists, but this creature is adding my getting a stably warm fish tank setup onto said lists. Maybe by the summer of 2026 ACE ?
Really cool. They look sort of like mystery snails (which I love) but breed and aerate the soil similarly to mtg snails which I like but darn they breed fast. Lol. Can’t wait to get my hands on some
Moonlight aquatics, let them know I sent yuh
@@Fishtory cool. Ty
These are awesome. I got 3 adults from Moonlight Aquatics and bonus two very small babies - however I stupidly put them in a tank that has some ramshorn/bladder snails. Do you have any good pictures or suggestions on how to tell if you have a baby blueberry or something else? The lighter colored/pink non-blueberry snails are pretty easy. I am struggling with the babies being so small. You show some great shots of the adults! I did learn that one of mine is a male - it has the shorter curved antenna. The other 2 have been hanging out in the back or under my guppy grass ball so I haven't really seen them in a way I could identify. They are in my grow out tank I use for the guppies I sell to my LFS and there has been no issues so far.
That’s so cool, I like blue in my fish tank and I have plenty of biofilm to go with my algae and plants and little bugs that seem to have come out of nothing, I have currently only a couple small tanks for plants and a ten gallon so I only have a few neocaradinia shrimp and a betta at the moment to go with my pet algae balls and threadlike free floating green plants that I forgot the name of and it sounds like the blueberry snails eat different sorts of things than shrimp or nerite snails do, I was planning on getting a nerite snail soon, would it be possible to keep blueberry snails with nerite snails neocaradinia shrimp and otocinclus in the future when I get a bigger tank up and running for a few years since they seem to prefer different types of vegetables and algae or do some of them eat the same things that I would have to supplement for outside of leaving my lights on for longer periods to encourage more algae growth and feeding the ottocinclus and shrimp extra vegetables and repashy?
It’s not the only snail that gives live birth. Sulawesi rabbit snails do, great lil friends to have in a tank. I actually witnessed one of mine giving birth to its lil white pod, it then hatched out of that pod very soon after. I, assuming it’s the same with ur blueberry snails.
Are these being bought into the USA with conscious regards to your eco/bio environment ? I hope so. This is why Australia and even west Australia is so very very strict on imports of live creatures. We are very lucky we have a lot less diseases, invasions and so forth that other countries.
new snail drop
Great video thank you the audio seems a little off maybe speaking too close to the microphone sorry for being a critic . Can't wait until these nails are available in my area or so how to order online
Sorry about that... something happened when I compressed the video file
You mentioned that they burrow. Do you know how deep? Will it be a problem in a father fish or walstad style tank where you dont want to disturb the substrate?
Not in a Walstad because they move slow and mostly go an inch or their own body/shell height deep. However in a father fish tank if it has his enriched layer of nutrients, that may be a problem...also depending on your water, his newest recipes have peat moss and the ph of the soil is acidic...and these snails need neutral to alkaline....so your tap water would dictate how they'd do probably in that case of a ff tank
i just got 7 adults and 7 babies a few days ago.
I feel like they tend to be extra clumsy 😅
It is funny to see that you have them together with rabbit snails and shrimps 😂
It is exactly the same setup I have.
Quick question, any update on how effective these are for algae control?
I would say slow movers, not great on old hardened algae...but about like nerites on glass or stone with algae a few weeks or months old and not really engrained .
Ok awesome, thanks for the quick reply!
I got 8 of them. Started at 4 adults and 4 babies. 1 baby didnt survive transport. I had 4 adults and 3 babies. Looked a week or so ago... There are 4 adults and 4 babies. The shell from the one that didnt survive is on top of the substrate. They only have 1 baby at a time! That could only mean 1 thing! Theyre reproducing!!! 😊
Care guide for snails? Didn't know you could kill em 😂
Haha
nice but how are you preventing the release into the wild and becoming another invasive species.
Lol well 1. By NOT RELEASING THEM lol. 2. By the fact they die under 65°f. and outside it is currently 46°f. In the air temp, let alone the 45 degree water temps.
These are so close to trapdoor snails. Down to the speckles, just different colors.Viviparus japonica look almost like they have felt skin. Do these have a similar look?
Yes I think they're pretty closely related
Wow! Live bearing snails, I must have one!!! Also, my tap water is perfect for those snails where can I find some?
Moonlight Aquatics has them
In the description I linked it. Tell em I say hello. I want cheng to know I'm supporting his local biz
I will. They are 11.99 right now! I will be sure to let him know! I'm on his "band" site
