Regarding episode 3, it does pay off Mister Simister's' main motivation of wanting Scott and Jean to have a child so that he could attempt to control it. I get why the writers made that creative liberty and chose not to make it Apocalypse. But as for Madalyne Pryor's turn from antagonist to protagonist being confined to a single episode, I understand getting it out of the way as the original story was a big convoluted. I guess if Scott had been cold to Madalyne the second Jean showed up at the door and realized that he had been fooled, then Madalyne turning into the Goblin Queen would make more sense as she would feel that the man she loved had betrayed her.

He said he had to reaudition for the role and they asked him to be more deeper and gravely; wanted him to be more like Charles Bronson. He said that's not how Wolverines voice is suppose to be. X-men 97 is as perfect as possible. They can't do every storyline exactly, but they have given so much love and attention to Claremont's greatest works. Yes, I would have loved to have seen a full-on multi-episode of the Inferno storyline, but they still manage to take care of all the major points in one episode. Hell to this day X-Men the animated series has given us the best adaption of the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga. I'm excited to see where X-Men 97 goes from here. Claremeont's original run of the X-men is still the standard bearer for all X-men storylines to follow but long-term storytelling in general.

I think it’s good that they don’t necessarily have to fill in all the holes that true comic fans can already picked up on than having to put them in the series. An example of this is Magneto and rogue. In the mansion when Pryor was messing with gambit they showed the same image that’s in the comics in the savage land of magneto and rogue. It’s showing that it happened even though we never got it on the original 97 series. It’s like always needing to do origin stories for new fans .

I didn’t mind Madelyn being a clone. I thought the way they did it was interesting and if you ask me, it felt like these people also have a love for the Spider-Man clone saga and felt they needed to bring some shred of that story to life.
I don’t mind Madelyn being brought in. For me, it really just heightens Scott vs Mr Sinister. I could see Scott having real problems getting close to Jean again. Is she another clone made by Sinister to procreate with Scott? This could really mess him up. But it’s that Scott doesn’t stand by Madelyn. He doesn’t seem to think she could be one of Mr. Sinister’s tools or at least doesn’t mention it. It seems more that he can’t be with a clone. Which, why does it matter? You love this person. You had a child with this person. Them not being the original doesn’t invalidate that love.
If I found out tomorrow that my wife is a clone and the real person has been in another country only to meet me and be disgusted by me, that would be saddening to see the face I’ve fallen in love with say those harsh things. But another version of that person loves me and that’s all one should need. It would make so much more sense for Madelyn to not want to share him with the OG Jean and make Scott choose. How can he? They are both the person he fell in love with. Madelyn will take his indecision as decision and then turn into the Goblin Queen. That’s a much better message.

My biggest critique was that it probably should've been at least 10min longer because it is rushed and it's crammed with so much its a little disorienting. But for how difficult this story was to navigate without making it completely campy, they did a fine job. The art and animation for the episode were absolutely superb as well.

He’s not wrong about the Wolverine voice. The fact that the voice is actor is older is a factor but I think the other larger factor was the lead creative director wanting Wolverine to sound more like what the original direction was for his voice was to sound more like Charles Bronson. Personally I don’t like that direction and I wish they just asked the voice actor to not do anything differently than his did in the original series.

The series is indeed the best Marvel show thus far.. It has enough balance, not tipping over on any side too much. Great animation, great soundtrack, well adapted from the comic storylines. X-Men 97’ crushes The Marvels, Quantumania, Echo, Mrs. Marvel, Secret Invasion, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Love and Thunder, Wanda Vision, Dr. Strange MM and more.. Bravo Marvel 👏🏼👏🏼 This is how it’s done, (Flaws and miner details aside) this is the best we have gotten in a long while. I’m excited for more episodes.

35:30 Well, 'member berries plainly is mainly why. Although there is also the awkwardness between Scott and Jean 1.0 as a tangible consequence. And while I enjoyed it with a big grin on my face for what it is, having Jean 2.0 almost immediately get over being second choice for Scott and then send baby Nathan into the future with few scenes of bonding did feel just a tad too rushed even for this series's historically rapid rollercoaster pace.

Valid points Ryan, I can see why adapting the Jean clone can be a pet peeve in terms of holding a tight 10 episode run, it definitely would have been easier to keep things simple. However I’m actually impressed they chose to adapt the clone story, it adds not only an homage to the comics but also dips it’s toe into the horror genre casting a wider net to increase the fan base. I was surprised they went there (particularly when jubilee split open the monsters head). Personally not my cup of tea but man was it a bold play. I also think it adds some richness in layering cables origin. Having him be the spawn of one of mr. Sinisters creations is an excellent way to add to his lore and to deeper engrain the villain to showcase to the audience just how far he’s willing to go to fulfill his agenda. Calling back to his origin episode in Xmen 92, Sinister showed zero remorse in his work and does not believe he is in the wrong in any way. All makes for a tasty layered story as opposed to going the simpler route of having some guy that kidnap Scott and jeans baby. Lastly I also think it’s a clever bone to throw fan theorists to spark a debate of when the clone switch happened in the original series. Thanks for posting this vid tho, loving the content and merch line. I’m ultimately just happy that Xmen is getting shown some love again, would have been happy either way 🤙

Love this episode guys! The one flaw in this show is that they include Angel in the lineup of the original X-MEN (seen in the picture at the mansion) whereas in the 90s show he wasn't part of the X-MEN and they met him in the 1ST Apocalypse episode. Also, in today's disdain for so called wokeness people are revising the past and saying that the writers of X-MEN never used Charles and Magneto as metaphors for Martin and Malcolm when I grew up learning that this was so. This metaphor made these characters even more compelling!
It's just that the racists nowadays don't want their beloved fictional heroes to be compared to Black nonfiction heroes especially those who fought against injustice and racism.

Sinister planned all of this, including sending Nathan to the future. The real jean escapes as soon as Nathan is born and Bishop's time travel band is repaired, convenient. Sinister was probably using Madelyn as like a bug/spy device and devise when he could make his moves. Releasing the real Jean to create drama and distraction. He told Madelyn he owns and controls every cell in her body so she might think the future idea was hers but it was really Sinister's. Sinister is also immortal so what is it to send a "project" a few decades into the future and collect it later when no Original X-men are present to interfere. He also said " they have no idea of the future I have planned for them" before they got Nathan back. The writers were wise to use Magik in the form of morph in this episode as it was a darker/ hell themed episode. Some Easter eggs with Magik was being kidnapped to Limbo in the comics, abused by demons and Belasco. The Dark Chylde Storyline is a parallel of innocence lost to Nathan being abducted by Sinister and being genetically violated. Getting infected with the virus causing the physical change to his appearance with the circuits on his skin and Illyanna morphing into her demon form because of the Bloodstones implanted in her. Also them both being time displaced and growing up with no family.

I agree with the glasses, X-Men works because it's not just civil rights or gay rights it's humanity in all of it's glory and tragedy. They go to space one week and the next week we're underground with the morlocks talking about classes and then hopping to the future trying to save that. It doesn't slow down and wait for change, it's actively working on changing it's world past, present and future.

I think they really wanted to maintain Cable’s original parents, especially for future stories. I think this was the better telling of this story, as a clone makes more sense if you wanted them to swap places. It just feels more natural and organic to Sinister’s plans, even though Scott and Jean probably would have had a baby on their own and Sinister could have stolen that child, but that’s a whole other conversation.
