- In this video I'm painting Studio Ghibli scenes from the movie "My Neighbor Totoro". I really enjoyed recreating these scenes, because the movies have such beautiful paintings! 😊

Fun fact: Most if not all of the backgrounds from Studio Ghibli are done traditionally with poster paint which is similar to gouache. That's why they look painterly and whimsical.

I love all of the movies, my favourite is Whisper of the Heart, would recommend Howl's Moving Castle and From Up On Poppy Hill too. 🥰

@@norefa3251 I agree it's a special movie especially for artists. We all need the grandfather's words. I like how they parallel Suzuku and Seji both dealing with low self esteem and self doubt, but still they end up lifting each other up. I also love what they did with the song, it threads through the movie adding continuity, yet it's also changing, adding richness... On a more basic note, how can you not love her saying "stupid jerk, stupid jerk", lol! I've now written a small novel here, but I love that movie so much!
Whisper of the Heart is also my favourite♥️
My favorite is Kiki’s Delivery service and My Neighbor Totoro but I like all the studio Ghibli movies. I think Ponyo and Secret World of Arrietty also have some very fun scenes as well!
Kiki’s delivery service is amazing! And I recommend Lupita castle in the sky maybe you won’t find it as weird as Howl’s moving castle 😆

My favourite is spirited away but second favorite is whisper of the heart! That violin and antiques store narrative is so cozy!!
A better fine liner than the staedtler ones are the ones from uni ball. I recently changed from using staedtler and micron pens to those from Uni. The brush pen from uni is absolutely amazing, so juicy and flexible than others
It sounds like we have the same taste in Ghibli movies. I recommend Whisper of the Heart, Secret world of Arietty, When Marnie was There, and From on Poppy Hill.
I just want to add, I highly suggest you AVOID 1) Grave of the Fireflies ... so sad it can damage your psyche.
2)Princess Kayuga, Long, so long, depressing and weird.
You could also skip Ponyo, the art is overly simplistic, the story is weird and aimed at very young kids. It's like a Japanese Teletubbies, but a lot of people do think it's a cute story....usually the same people who love Howl's moving Castle.
Spirited Away is my favorite 💜 i first saw it as a kid when the English version came out and fell in love despite the weirdness lol. I also love Howls Moving Castle and Kiki. There are still a few I haven't seen yet though that I really want to. I think Hulu has a whole Ghibli section
But Hulu is only available in the US and not in other countries..!
The Backgrounds of the Studio Ghibli Movies are all hand painted. In the old Movies they are mostly made by Oga Kazou or Myazaki himself. And only some of the Animations are made digitally, they tried to do as much original, as possible.
My favorites are Howls Moving Castle (it’s easier to understand, when you read the Book it is based on) and Kiki's Delivery Service. For Inspiration I can recommend Ponyo, because the underwater Scenes are so beautiful and the Movie is cute. And The Legend of Princess Kaguya has also an interesting Art Style.
These all came out so amazing. I haven't seen My Neighbor Totoro yet, but it is on my list. I will say spirited away isn't my favorite movie of all the ones I have seen. My favorites are Princess Mononoke, The Cats Return, Howl's Moving Castle, and Kiki's Delivery Service. They are all darling stories, and the scenery is just amazing. I love them so much. 💖
You'll love Totoro! Every frame is a painting in that movie! 😊
I’ve loved studio ghibli since I was a kid! Definitely make sure you watch Howl’s Moving Castle! It’s my favourite and my calm down chill movie 🥰

Omg, this really made my night! Thank you so much!! 😍 Got really excited when I got the notification! Haha, I grew up with Ghibli movies, & I think Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service was my first. They were the reason why I wanted to go into art, because I fell in love with the painterly effects, & they were just so comforting. You're correct, a majority of them are a bit older (late 80's- early 90's), & everything was done traditionally c: There's even some videos of it on TH-cam, if you wanna check them out! From what I've seen, they use poster color (water-based paints) & sometimes Holbein gouache. If you ever plan to watch anymore of the movies, I think you would enjoy Ponyo & Secret World of Arietty! You would have a lot of fun painting the sea life, & Secret World of Arietty has so much beautiful greenery! Anybody who's into the cottagegore aesthetic will definitely love it! A friendly heads up - DON'T watch "Grave of the Fireflies" (I think that's the name) unless you're prepared. I know you've had some mental health struggles, as I have too. It didn't help me at all. It's another Studio Ghibli movie but omg it's SOOOOOO sad!!! I cried my eyes out.

Oh I relate sooo much to your Ghibli movies experience 😂. I only watched Spirited away as a kid and it creeped me out soo much (especially the witch and her giant baby) it was just so weird 😅. Now I watched Totoro and it was so cute so I'm discovering other Ghibli movies. The sceneries are just soo beautiful and I love how you made them!

I really liked The Cat Returns by Ghibli, you may not enjoy it since you found Spirited Away weird as well as Howl's a bit weird. I love both of those! Try the Cat Returns though!

Wonderful paintings 😍👏👏 , I watched almost all the Gihbli movies (2 or 3 movies as child and the rest as an adult 😂) my fav are "Spirited Away" and "Hawl's moving castle" ☺️, also I did recently make a drawing of a scene from "Spirited away" but it was mixed media painting! I've never used poster paint but from what I've heard it seems pretty similar to gouache. You can always try any painting with any medium, it's just sometimes you need a bit of a different approach and the result might look a bit different. But don't let that stop you :)

I didn't like any studio gibly movies because the stories of these movies are for girls not boys but I like the art and background drawings, I prefer gundam and transformers and similar manga more
