    I heard back from a representative at porkrinds.com and Southern Recipe, Pepe's and Lee's brands are all fried in lard. That should make folks happy to hear.

      I used lard and tallow instead of Crisco, in my Hunky cookies for Christmas this year like my Grandmother used to. Great taste. When I was little my Aunt made the best fried chicken. Fried in lard.

      @@lynl8897 The oven-baked ones, looking at ingredients, do have sunflower oil. It looks like the Southern Recipe brand are baked, whereas the Peet's brand are traditionally fried.

    • @jbeargrr
      @jbeargrr ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here, no msg. I'm ok with natural glutamates, like yeast extract, but monosodium glutamate is not the same.
      I don't really know if msg is bad, but I know it won't hurt me not to eat it. I've managed to cook without it my whole life, and my food is plenty tasty. I prefer not to eat ingredients that I'm not sure are safe for me. I might miss an occasional treat that way, but I think I can live with that.

      Two things that really won me over on these:
      1) The texture was light and crispy from the start of the bag to the finish, and
      2) Sometimes pork rinds can have a greasy sort of smell to them (like re-used cooking oil). These do not.

    I buy Mac's. I do not like their BBQ...too much. Do these have enough salt? I like salty.

    Try 'pork scratchings' from UK, they are pork rinds but they aren't as airy and are more 'bacony' 🥓 as you say 😂

    Most flavored rinds have maltodextrin that I see. Only plain doesn’t.
    Do these have maltodextrin in the ingredients?
    Any chance they didn’t use seed oils/canola? I guess I can go look Jeeesh. 😂

      These 3 all use lard. The small batch, unfortunately, uses canola.

    Yeah.. some of those have seed oils, sugar variants and chemical additives or colors that aren’t legal in some countries.. pork rinds should be all natural, fried in lard and devoid of chemical junk.. just real ingredients, please

    So far, I like the Mac brand that I get from Walmart. It is weird because they have two kinds-one regular and one double fried and those are too crunchy for me so I grind them into pork rind crumbs. I do wonder , though, what kind of oil they are all fried in. I have not been able to find one that lists what kind of oil is used. Or do they just cook them down and let fry in their own juices? Is there any way of finding out? Not that I have found. So it kind of bothers me but I still eat them anyway.

      I emailed Southern Recipe about what they fry theirs in. The process they list on their website says they render the fat from the skins, but they don't indicate if they fry in the rendered lard. I would think that they would, but who knows?
