My husband is addicted to them at the minute, he buys Mr Porky and Midlands and if you check the bags look very similar, colour and style, and check the address on both packets it's the same even postcode. So are yhe Midland, Mr Porky in disguise 🥸 🤔. Keep up the great with love your videos Kat n Shaun xx 😍

Love these little gems. I once had a full card of Pork scratchings delivered to my working address and hung them on my office wall. My colleagues are mostly Vegans and health food promoters. When they walked into the office and saw that ambrosia hanging off the wall there was a riot. Fun vid and memories. Crunch away.

Thank you. I'm a Black Country boy and I know you can't beat our scratchings, since moving to Nottingham I've never found proper scratchings. Your video inspired me - I've just taken a slab of pork belly out of the freezer and tomorrow I'll be making scratchings from the skin plus dry curing the lean for bacon 😊

My stepdad used to love pork scratchings. One day his pack went missing and he had us looking all over the house, I eventually found them behind the sofa. Our cat had nicked them and was tucking in and licking his lips. My stepdad was furious. It was comical😂😂

I tried Mr. Porky recently, since I was desperate to feed my scratchings addiction, they’re decent, too expensive.
In my opinion, the best ones are from small independent factories in the West Midlands, that come in rudimentary packaging, 200g for £2.

I'm off pork crackling for life...I made a beautiful roast pork joint just for dinner a few weeks ago and made sure the crackling good and crispy. I bit into a piece of it and I heard one of my back teeth cracking. An expensive trip to the dentist followed! 😕

I prefer the traditional style of pork scratchings to those airy ones. Funnily enough, if you google pork scratchings they're supposed to be quite healthy as the types of fat in them are good for heart health. On the downside they're high in calories and salt which isn't good for you. I have a packet now and then rather than eating them too often. Watch your teeth though..I've cracked a couple of mine eating them !

I am a fiend for pork scratchings.
The Snaffling pig comapny do an advent calendar, different flavoured pack a day, not cheap but good tasty fun, you should look it up for next christmas.
Pork crunch is edible but they are not proper scratchings and I don't think they pretend to be but I'd still eat them.... if there were no scratchings.

You can't beat the traditional, black country pork scratchings. They also make hot pork scratchings, with jalapenos, and double crunch pork scratchings. Pulled pork, pork scratchings, and pork crunch, in original, salt and vinegar, and hot jalapeno flavours. We have tried lots of different pork scratchings and pork crunch, but always go back to the black country, they are the best. Nice to see you reviewing them though , 👍😋

Pork rinds are so very popular here in Texas because they're not only popular among Anglos, but also Hispanics and in Mexico. All kind of flavors, Bacon-etts are the most popular put out by Frito-Lay. All the stores have their own brands. We can even buy the huge ones, most of a pigskin side, home made in some Hispanic markets.

Most of the commercial pork scratchings we get in Australia are too dry, like the pork crunch you showed. There is one company called Pascal's Pork Scratchings that make them properly with some nice fat. They really only sell online and are VERY expensive. 6 x 100 gram packets are $53.95 Australian Dollars (30 British Pounds 😳). I love them but don't buy them often because of the price.

Watching you review these pork scratchings reminded me of what I was missing so I ordered two packets from Iceland this afternoon when I done my shopping. I usually get Mr Porky original but I don't taste that much difference between the brands. The worse ones are those that almost break your nashers. I agree they need to be quite salty and soft enough to make them pleasant to eat. I think these are ideal to eat with a nice pint!

Just a little suggestion: I know you talked about which one was the cheapest and which was the dearest, but could you also do price per gram, because it might be that something that is dearer than something else may well be cheaper if you compare price per gram.

    Hi Gaz.
I like a pork scratching to be crispy on the outside with that soft bit in the middle and not too salty and like it to be golden brown - I hate it when you get the burnt ones in there.
Have tried all of those you have there and I reckon the best ones are a toss up between the B&M multipack ones and the Midland Snack ones.
Looking at some images on Google, the Midland Snack ones seem to have 3 different bag variations - one is the bag you have there, then there is a similar looking bag except the logo says MS (rather than M) and finally there is a completely different bag which is clear and says MS Traditional Black Country Pork Scratchings - all seem to be currently available so not sure what the deal is with the bag variations but I remember trying the ones in the clear bag a few years back and they were excellent but not seen them for ages.
You are 'spot on' about the Pork Crunch - I tried some from Asda way back around 2005/6 and I just thought they were like Quavers but more thick and a bit bland.

Great review Gareth. Like you I'm a big fan of scratchings. I live near Wolverhampton. The black country ones are the Best! Like most ASDA's our local one stocks local products, including G. Simmons and Sons. They are the best scratchings I've tasted from a supermarket. They are not the cheapest at £1.70 for 6 x 20g packs, but well worth it! Even their version of the 'puffy' pork crunch are nice. They even do a sweet chilli version too! Although they are still not as good as the ones the local farm shop/butchers produced, where I used to live.😛

As soon as I saw the line up I knew you'd go for the midland snack traditionals I get them all the time but can usually only find them in little corner shops and off licences along with the black County one's .. they've got an almost creamy salty flavour that leaves the others standing. As for the "Pork Crunch" well all I can say is f@+?£#@ ~+ite ! Also I make my own chicken scratchings - beef scratchings & even lamb scratchings you know stuff that people generally throw out I don't. These companies must make a fortune ! And let's face it its (no skin off they're backs) hey ! 😉 Really interesting subject Gareth literally a subject close to my heart ! thanks for posting.. 👍 😁

Farmers market ones home made are usually lovely too. Hasn't the times changed Gareth i know a lot of workmates who are the main cook at home, even though the go to work still go home and do the cooking, roll back a couple of generations and if a bloke did any cooking, he would of been called, by work mates

I'm scatching my head over the Pork Crunch one's I like the Original pork scatchings remember back in the day as a bar snack , times long gone If we have a pork joint the skin is always removed first to cook seperate and soak in Boiling water first , it causes the skin to blister for added crunch

I used to eat Pork Scratchings in our local back in the 80’s. One day Zi pulled one out with a wart on, 🤢 never ate one since.

Hi Gareth, interesting video, thanks. I used to enjoy Shakey's Pork Scratchings. Real depth of salty flavour, lovely balance of meat/skin with hard crunch and entirely satisfying, but they placed the old molars at risk of damage. Sadly, the gent who ran the enterprise from a small shop on Portland in Dorset UK, John Shakespeare (hence 'Shakey's’), retired fairly recently and Shakey's is no more. Please do carry on with your reviews, they're great!

I do love pork scratchings but worry about eating too many of them. I've made my own before and they were too moreish lol! The fatty crunchy ones looked the best Gareth.

My favourite is a brand called THE CURATORS, it's pork crunch and I get them in Sainsbury's and they are delicious, I can't do normal ones as my teeth can't take it but back in the day I used to love proper pork scratchings.

Checking the prices per gram all of them except "The Real Pork Crackling" are 35 or 36g per pound. TRPC is 75g per pound.

Absolutely no sympathy for you whatsoever Gareth. Only envy 🤤
It's not everyday you get to taste test 5 different brands of pork scratchings. I like the mini packs idea, great at the bar with a coldie.
These can be so morish to the point of over indulgence.
You have to get the deep fryer fired up and make your own scratchings. Way to easy to make.
In Australia they're called pork crackles and they can be a bit airy, and not so concentrated in texture. But bloody delicious mate.
    Top review today Gareth.
    Cheers 👍🤤👍
