So sick. Effectively recreating colour plugins from scratch and generating a ton more versatility due to having fine control of all the working parts. APPROVED 🌈
FL Studio also has some cool patcher presets made by people like Youlean, they weren't all installed by default on mine, but I remember I got them very easily and quickly. Also not very friendly to your CPU btw., iirc the note EQ is even worse than the resonator. In case people don't know, you can also ''snap'' FL's parametric EQ to freqs that line up without standard tuning in the menus, not so doable for microtonal etc. though... Can't even type in hz values, just the percentage.
14:55 is the best atempt at comedy coming from germany I've heard in a while. Jokes aside, this is awesome and I'm certainly going to experiment with this stuff myself!
Your understanding of the frequency range and ableton ingenuity combined are impressive sir. I've listened to dubstep frequently for a decade and always thought your songs had a touch of musical genius compared to others. I bought Ableton and started watching production videos a month ago and now I understand why. Have already learned a ton, thanks Virtual Riot :) btw your Pleasure Seeker Remix was my Spotify #1 song of 2023, absolute monkey slapper of a tune
This is so crazy because you kinda did exactly what someone programming a complex FX plug-in would do, except you did it with a bunch of ableton racks. Super cool 👏
Yo! More of these man! Quick and easy for you to upload and suuuuuper helpful for us! Definetly keep these low-key uploads as a regular thing along with the more fleshed out studio time episodes!
You can get polyphonic keytracked filtering with Surge XT by using “Audio Input” oscillator type (and then routing the sound to the synth in your DAW), switching on a filter (like a 24dB band-pass probably), setting its keytracking to +100% and you’re done with basic setup. Because there is a second oscillator waiting (and a second filter in each one, and some other cool things), this can make easier creative spectral processing of the sound. And it won’t need to load for extra long time! 😀 Well and also the filters parameters can be modulated by internal LFOs and other stuff on top of that! And vocoder is also in stock. Finally (probably not) you can use custom tunings (vs. just 12 equal temperament) to color the effect differently.
With ADHD like me. I look away for 5 seconds, and look back to a Virtual Riot tutorial and he's in a completely different world let alone a next step in the process.
Watching VR play around in Ableton are some of my favorite videos. Pure passion, pure creativity, pure joy. I can't help but smile when I watch these videos. Also seeing Val being inspired by some of these popular plugins and trying to re-create them in Ableton and at the same time elevate them is such a huge gift to all of us. Thanks for sharing your brain with us!
KOAN Sound are my favorite producers, I will shamelessly admit that their Patreon tutorials are 100% worth the money. Check out some of their music, and if you like what you hear try a month
Been sleeping for too long if he's a new favorite. (lol) this man is literally a genius, and watching him work is like watching a god create a world. Imo he could be doing a lot more than just EDM, he's like the Mozart of our time.
This guy truly innovating some crazy awesome ideas. They're so simple in concept but something that I've (personally) never thought of. And I love the expansion into the Colour Bass scene. Awesome stuff!
Really cool video and technique. This also reminds me of using vocoder on external with a chord stack, it gives it the same kind of sound then you can add whatever effects you want to it.
You did exactly what I was thinking for the waveform following! I am in physical pain at the thought of how many connections and parallel audio streams must be going on to do this lmao
Every once in a while I'm reminded you are very German. Awesome idea and execution. *Edit commented before I heard 15:00 lol. Perhaps the Japanese phrasing "final form" would work..
that rest rack is insane. I did something similar with serum fx. it is fx rack as a filter bank. so from like 60-6600 hz it has lowpass filters moved up by key track. 6600-2200 it has hipass move down by key track. each instance runs a second filter in fx for resonant comb offset by random mod so each time it has a different freq for a random resonant filter bank.
I've been obsessed with making sounds from sines that fit my tuning/key/scale/chord (mimicing the pattern of interval spacing in the harmonic series but making it something minor is cool for some retro house planed chord basses), but I never even considered making a yoy like that. Doing stuff like this is also a great way to develop your ear's ability to make good use of the harmonic series. I bet you'd make some sick just intonation stuff btw., you can distort the hell out of all sorts of intervals there, harmonic series for low notes.
The quickest and cleanest way to achieve that "coloured sound" is just by using the special resonator. Simply send a MIDI chord progression from another channel, preferably stacked over multiple octaves and tweak the settings to taste. (Don't forget to turn poly on and voices up)
"Special resonator"... 1) I assume you meant "spectral" 2) AKA a vocoder. Seriously, instead of all the enveloped EQ peak nonsense, go back to the sine wave arpeggios from right at the start of the video, and use that as the modulator signal in a vocoder... And that's exactly what he's reinvented, just really inefficiently.
Your Eq method is sick man!! If a bit too CPU heavy (beyond my steam-driven machine) and an insane rack to build, but worth the effort. Thinking maybe this could be adapted with a vocoder?
the only person who need to "live with the fact that you're not using your fancy camera" is you bro! 😂 at least to me the teaching is way more valuable then seeing clearly the pores of your face or not in these type of video! thank u for it btw, you badass, love u, see u some day 💕
this comes in very handy for video game score production f. e. when you want something that emphasizes a certain mood. Might work well on 32 or 8 bit music.
german engineering at its finest. echoing the comments that i'd love to see this packaged up into its own plugin for those of us who can't use m4l devices
This feels like the DAW equivalent of building a computer inside Minecraft
💀💀
Bro, tell me about it.
try Bitwig Studio
That’s actually pretty accurate my computer will usually attempt to burst into flames
i havent even started the video yet and this was my assumption...

you can do in serum FX you just need to send midi to it that it ngl no cap
It's a vocoder
For me, Ableton is my favourite videogame
Au5's brain carrying the biggest of biggest dogs, love it or hate it

i can’t believe they haven’t collabed yet
Yoy..We need a collab with au5.

Some Psy with this techniques might be gold stuff
Oooof😂
hahahahaha
I feel 12 years old watching a minecraft redstone contraption tutorial again when i see those racks and techniques. Really inspiring
oh my god this is insanely cool >:0
thank you so much for making this video !!
can't wait for some azali color bass
Holy shit you like him toooo
I've been good fan for years now...
And I've been your sub from line 2000 subs lmao like your music too
Cool seeing you here!
Azali colour bass 💀
Azali color bass would go hard
15:01 LMAOOOO
15:00 omg I was so not ready for the "final solution" XD
💀
Nor were those goblins
2 uploads within one month??? we are blessed
All this should be made into a cpu efficient vst or max for live patch.
Shoutout virtual riot
U gain more and more respect
You might like vocoders
So this is basically a MIDI input vocoder built from the ground up. I love it.
you can do it in serum fx with the midi thing also ngl no cap
Webcam angle is nice, feels more personal and the daw is whats important anyways
Hardware designers would do themselves a favor to put VR in R&D. Amazing concept and even more brilliant execution here.
15:00 I laughed and felt bad for laughing all at the same time
Ain't no way bro really just said that 💀
it took me a second but I burst out laughing
A W for Color Bass innovation!
Big week for badass bass tutorials

this makes me think that we need a proper ableton scripting language, similar to blender. so you dont have to die while building it

Go to the Serum filter shapes, go to misc, select formant-1, formant-2, or formant-3.
