As a Kenyan, I have just accepted the fact that Ethiopia as a country and Ethiopia Airlines as a carrier have already established themselves as the undisputed aviation hub of not just Eastern Africa but the whole of Africa! All this while here in Kenya we’re trying to lease out JKIA to a dubious Indian firm to upgrade and operate our crumbling airport for 30 years! 😢
Where did we go wrong as Kenyans? 🤷🏿‍♂️

Why build a new $6 billion dollar airport?
Expanding the existing Bole airport makes more sense to me. It is conveniently located near Addis. An upgrade to the existing airport would be cheaper. The proposed new airport will be 30 kilometers away from the city. That is an additional hour of travel and fatigue for weary travelers arriving on those long midnight flights to Addis. The hotels will have to charge additional fees to cover the costs of their shuttle service to and from the distant airport. This is not a good idea. It will surely increase costs for everyone. I am not looking forward to it.
