The most interesting thing about this construction, the principal of the calendar, is the design of the month- and yeardisc. They put the letters of the days on the yeardisc, so when you go from 2021 to 2022, and keep the month disc on the same position, the days move one step back. For example, the 1st of June 2021 is on a tuesday, 1st of June 2022 is on a wednesday. The days of the month are cleverly aligned with the years and the months. 7 days of the week, 7 columns of dates of the month, the months on the month disc divided over 7 cels. And there is even more for me to understand, so I am not done just yet.
I have received this kit as a birthday present, I do like it, but I can't figure out what the purpose is from the gears inside. The gears drives a ring, but nothing is attached to this ring, it only spins around?

You're supposed to be able to line up the dates and use it as a calendar. If it's just spinning around, perhaps you've missed a part out?
Only problem i had was it always displays 31 days on every month but it's just a fun puzzle for a reasonable price. cheers~!

My kit fortunately did not have any bowing in the wood. Runs smoothly and quite impressed but I feel like the stand is a little rickety.
